If he was simply sent to another era or literally banned from timelines, I know not (but probably is the first, as Porky mentally is an immature child unable to accept defeat who escapes or shields himself with any gadget to avoid being beaten up). Following this *THEORY* (remember, it doesn't matter how much sense it has for me or you, it is a mere theory as it is not confirmed), that would explain why he had so many objects of Earthbound but why there are no characters from Earthbound (except Adonuts who, while alone or with Mr Saturns would be an easy prey). I just remembered something sad, pokey traveled through time just to ‘win’ against ness in the most cowardly way, by outliving ness which in pokeys mind was his way of winning. Kind of depressing to think ness is most likely dead.
Seeing Claus getting turned into a robot like that...makes me uneasy and increases my hatred for porky. 4 years later edit: I don't ACTUALLY hate porky. I just dislike him as you should as a villain. As a character his story is tragic and unfair. He deserves everything that comes his way in my opinion. He chose his path willingly and stuck too it even after many losses. He never learned anything except ways to get what he was wants and how to manipulate people. Just an unfortunate series of events happened to him and now he's uh...stuck in a giant pod forever...oh well
Really Earthbound has the only characters who left without much loss. They defeated Giygas AND managed to return to their time period, while Porky went on to Mother 3 with his life already ruined to do the same to Lucas and his family.
Yes,it could of been more darker in mother 3,where porky was shot by the pigmask army in the N64 prototype version,and later into the GBA prototype version,the mech would fall causing him to die,he was bleeding too! Because in the first two stomps, it shows how evil he is to kill one of his own. In the third stomp, he crushes Hinawa’s grave, showing how much he doesn’t care about anybody else. The next few stomps consist of claus being turned into the masked man. The final two stomps are the statue arriving at empire porky.
There's a lot of tiny secret messages in this video. The first one is at about 0:37, right in the transition. This says "YOU CANNOT GRASP THE TRUE FORM OF GIYGAS' ATTACK" In the mess of words after that, there are messages like "it hurts" "i feel good" "BE MY FRIEND, NESS", and "IT'S SO SAD", among other gibberish. At 0:45, during the flash to grayscale, it says "Paula's prayer was absorbed into the darkness." At 0:51, the text "Do you want to scream for help here in the dark?!" flashes across the bottom of the screen. At 0:55, a whole lot of text pops up, surrounding Porky. This includes: "I've gone through time and space so many times I haven't aged like a normal person." "Who knows, I might be 1000 years old, or even 10,000 years old." "But despite that, I'm still the same kid at heart!" "Is that funny?" "It is, isn't it?" "Does it make you laugh?" And finally, "Are you laughing at me?!" before Porky springs to life, finally ending this wall of text at 0:57. That was *two seconds.* The next one is at 1:12, with the infamous quote "...It's name was Claus? That almost sounds like a person's name! But now it's my robot. Not a fragment of life remains in it now..." Though not a message, Giygas' "face" can be seen briefly as the two presses smash together at 1:13. TL;DR Porky is hella messed up, considering almost all of these are quotes from him.
Although yes he said these disturbing things, he was pushed into madness from neglect,loneliness, and abuse and ness's quietness didn't help as when he asked if he could be friends again, he then replied "that's a no huh?" And that's what pushed porky to make his army that he would throw away in the end.

This game took the piss out of itself to the point where the whole silent protaginist malarky becomes serious. Earthbound is really original in those aspects.

This is very sad because he was serious about that what he said. but because of Ness' quiet behavior he thought Ness doesnt forgive him and the mani mani statue finally controlled his mind... It's heavily believed that Porky had lost what's left of his innocence for thinking Ness doesn't forgive him and decided to become the villain he later became. Even with the Statue destroyed, Porky was still out causing trouble for the cast

To me, Porky is the best kind of villain. He's so hate-able, he gives you that feeling of "Oh, you just missed me, you'll see me next time, not!" And never really showing up until the very end, however you know he's responsible for everything. So heartless but, he's also so human. If things had gone differently for him, just a bit differently, maybe he wouldn't see the world the way he does, filled with just people he can hate next. Where as Ness, most people are just, friends waiting to be made. Porkey's was an unfortunate case, and it happens. He one of the realest villains of all time, really.
A child from a shitfaced family is the scariest villain in any game I have ever played. Move aside eldricht abominations, the eater of worlds is literally an eater of worlds.
If we take PSI powers to be the kids shouting, "FIRE BALL!" Or, "LIGHTNING BOLT!", Then Porky's final act was to put up an Everything Proof Shield. Which, naturally, is where everyone stops playing with you, because you're no fun at all.
I agree to that Porky is not only the best villain but also the most powerful villain there is he has more power than any other fictional character out there
If you think about it, he defeated himself thinking he won, he's literally trapped, he'll be there forever, till the last star perishes and the las black hole is destroyed and he won't be able to do anything nor even kill himself, this and his entire arc on Mother 2 and 3 shows how much damage Gyigas would have been able to make in a larger scale only by it's mere influence

Think about it though: Porky was just an annoying kid and a friend who got turned evil by an alien who was "emotionally abused" Then he went on and got granted immortality (im pretty sure) and took over. He was spoiled and still acted like a child,and ruined the life of a family and others. He basically killed Lucas mom and got rid of his brother. You get him back with trapping him in a capsule that cant open nor be destroyed and keep everyone inside it safe,and trapped for eternity. Hes immortal,and will live forever in a small area with all his thoughts. *kids game*

And tecnically, he won. His final goal is seeing the end of existence, when anyone who doesn't think like him will be gone. Even if Lucas pulled most of the needles it will eventually happen and Porky knows it.
I'm legitimately not kidding when I say that this was incredible, and the producers of that short should be very proud. I'm ecstatic that this was granted to the MOTHER fanbase. It breaks my heart that so many people don't know or really want to care to know about this franchise.
The mother series is probably one of the most underrated series out there and that is kind of sad. At least ness being in super smash bros got it more known.

There are several pieces of text that literally last one frame, and I'm going to type all that I can find. 0:38 You cannot grasp the true from of Giygas' attack. A kid in over his head controls a monster to spite the kid he used to consider his friend, and failed. He runs away and goes crazy, and ends up destroying a whole world with an empire. He failed again, and goes completely insane, suffering for all eternity, getting what he wanted. But not what he could've had.

I like the little detail that Porky sees Giygas in the reflection of the glass near the end. It seems symbolic, as if it's really saying "I really AM the monster now, aren't I?" Porky has become the embodiment of evil that plagues their world. I don't know if you even meant for it to be read into that way, but that's how I interpret it :P
Porky is actually a truer monster than Giygas, just to prove that humans are incapable of learning their mistakes. As Giygas is the symbolic embodiment of evil (which it is a understatement as Giygas has lost his mind and unaware of his actions), Porky ended up being the physical embodiment since he manage to turn the pure peaceful people of Tazmilly into the same as us flawed humans (he even called out on them for making themselves forget the past to live peacefully) for absoutely no reason other than just to screw with what remained of humanity for his own entertainment.
Porky has totally broken the evil/wicked scale practically as bad as The Joker...he caused pretty serious things to happen. Including several deaths. And who knows who or what happened in between Mother 3...The most underated villian is the most Evilest Villian of all time.
Maybe the implication is that Porky IS Giygas. And the events of Mother 3 sealed him into that capsule, and due to Einsteinistic theories related to faster-than-light travel and the space-time continuum, he ended up way back in the past.
After the end of the world. All that is left is Porky and the Dragon which some believe that it could actually be just Gyigas being imprisoned by the needles and becomes now free to destroy the world.
***** Victim, but also a masterpiece. His creation got so out of hand he set the events that ended the world in motion, and heaven knows what he did in the other time zones that the timeline itself ejected him out.
Ya it is kind of sad that he is trapped in there, doomed to forever be alone but it is exactly what he wanted; a device which be absolutely safe no matter what from forces from the outside or inside. He will be in that capsule for eternity and since he never really will die due to age or lack of food because he never needs to eat he will just be stuck there to think about what he's done and what situation he is in now. As some others have mentioned because he traveled through time so much and destroying things at each place he visited he ended getting locked out of all time periods and got stuck in the time when mother 3 takes place. Though the evil influence he was subjected to by giygas was only because he ended up with a weak heart and will because of all the harassment his parents did to him, he started of as that kind of annoying friend who you kind of find obnoxious but he is still a kind of good person but after that he started rolling down hill from that exposure to the evil energy.
Porky is a very interesting character, and shows the heavy shift in Earthbound. Quite literally being the "I think I skipped too far" joke. Show someone who has never seen Earthbound Porky from Mother 3, and show them Porky at the beginning of Earthbound. They won't believe it's the same character.
Really love how as we pan away from the Absolutely Safe Capsule we can hear the chants of children which, if you listen closely, are actually from the movie adaptation of "Lord of the Flies," another tale of how terrible circumstances morph normal children into twisted killers. Not only that, but the chant consists of cries calling for the murder of a pig/beast (depending on where you see it in the book), which could be understood as coming from both the perspective of Porky and his enemies. Really great animation that still holds up.

Gyigas was always evil before porky was born he was gonna destroy earth until he was stopped by ninten and his friends and corpceted himself so he won't feel emotions and influenced people of being evil before porky decided to work for him
oreki houtarou Youre wrong Giygas wasnt evil in at all, in fact, he was sad he was forced to attack earth as he didnt want to betray maria (his humanoid adoptive mother) yet he forced himselt to because of his own species, the thing that stopped him was the lullaby that jinter and co singed to giygas, it reminded him of maria and filled him with guilt, and have retreated Giygas hate and guilt became so powerful it destroyed his own mind and body, to the point he wssnt "evil" himself but became the defination of "evil" (considering his mind is not intact outside the devils machine, he dont even realize he is doing evil things hence making him "evil" itself) The prayers managed to destroy him due to the same human emotions he had for maria when ninten sang the lullaby Giygas didnt become evil, he *is* the evil power (like pokey said) Which is why the human emotions defeated him
i think this goes along with the Pollyanna fan animation really well, Pollyanna showing the lighthearted side of the story, Ness’s side, while this shows Porky’s side, evil, corrupt, irredeemable, it’s really awesome

Porky, aka, an immortal 11 year old kid that on the outside is 100,000 years old, creates an army of chubby people in pig suits, turns an innocent 10 year old into a ruthless, unfeeling cyborg, treats animals like toys, and sees time like nothing more than putty, easily changable, and sees people as no more than tools, and is responsible for the saddest death in gaming history, a broken father-son relationship, and this is all because his parents were verbal (and possibly physically abusive) with him and a creepy red alien swirl made him his right hand man, it’s complicated in the world of Earthbound and Mother 3.
I'm not sure which one is worse, Eric Cartman fed a kid his own parents, but Porky took a kids relative and made him his slave because he knew he wouldn't fight him
Same here mate, same here, I remember nights later I had this nightmare with a bunch of monitors in a black void with purple cubes spinning in the background, they where noodly lit but in the center one was porky smiling and twitch around like in the FNAF 1 title screen on the top left one was Claus' white eyes and lifeless expression I think new pork city was in either the bottom one or the one on the top right and hinawas grave was bottom left. This dream still is a crazy thought that sticks with me years later.
I just realized that Porky probably made the pigmasks like Nazis because he was probably learning about it in school during Mother 2/Earthbound, which adds more to his childlike nature. The pigmasks are probably how he imagined the nazis.

Something to think about: In both versions, but the Japanese especially, Pokey is extremely desperate for Ness' friendship, but Ness doesn't forgive him after Happy Happy Villiage (in the Japanese version Pokey doesn't say he was kidding about still being friends, and says something to the lines of "We're still friends. Right? Right?" Meaning, TECHNICALLY Mother 3 is Ness' fault, though there was no way he could have known that.

This is so sad. Honestly it scares me a little. I miss Claus. He was such a great kid. And the only reason Porky used a Claus is because he knew that Lucas was strong and he knew Lucas would not hurt his brother so he did that so Claus would pull the needles easy. But at the end he knew who he was but he knew that he was not in full control of his body. When he saw Lucas's lightning badge he cast the lightning purposely and commit suicide. He knew if he didn't his robot body would pull the needle and end the world. He did it on purpose. So sad. :'(

I love this video it sums up Pokey perfectly. Pokey had a number of chances to change, to reflect on his actions whenever beaten but would always run away to find another opportunity to shift the odds in his favor so he wouldn't have to, and ironically his final attempt to escape the consequences of his actions was what cost him everything in the end, including his own freedom.
The fact that the animation of the red flashes behind claus is suppost to reference a battle sprite that was left unused is amazing, just astounding level of detail

This is an amazing animation. I mean, your interpretation of Giygas is actually fairly creepy, the entire video feels rather unnerving, with a sense of no hope. The Porky Statue's scene reminds me of Viewtiful Joe for some reason, but it's my favorite part. Claus, Hinawa, it's all touching. But, it's a shame we probably won't see another game featuring Porky. Unless Smash Bros. welcomes him in.
True, but in a perfect world, Porky in his spidery EarthBound mech would be a newcomer. In all honesty, most of the Nintendo-based bosses (Ridley, Porky, Rayquaza and Petey) in SSE could all be unique characters, but Ridley's the likeliest out of the bunch. A shame, really. I just want another Mother character, whether it be Porky or Masked Man.

Sea Pupper I just realized the line was from the book, but reading it, you know the context of the phrase, and what happens in the story. I feel uneasy every time I hear or see it.
They're actually saying "KILL. THE. PIG!" Followed by a quick echo of other kids screaming "Kill The Pig!", which then repeats. This is very fitting as Lord of The Flies, the book where this line is from, uses pigs (well, sows and piglets, actually) as symbols of innocence and life. I believe that by making Pokey "Porky", Itoi tapped into this symbol and used it to represent how Porky, considered one of the worst villains in Nintendo history wants his innocence back. It's actually this innocence that drove him to be the Porky we all hate: his desire to be loved and to have friends, was corrupted into a lust/necessity for EVERYONE to love him, and he would do anything to achieve that: whether it be torture, murder, inhumane experiments, resetting the whole world, even. Anything just to be loved. To have a second chance. To be with Ness again. To have different parents who wouldn't abuse him. He needs love and affection just like an innocent child. He's been through so much shit to the point where its like he never had an innocence. His only friend was taken away from him and it wasn't even his fault or Ness'. Yet he still cherishes the ideas of friendship and love just like a child. (The theater and "Friend's Yoyo" are proof of this) Porky is evil as a result of the evil around him. Were it for different circumstances, he never would've committed the atrocities he committed. Something that holds true for many villains, even in human history.

This animation made me respect Porky more as a villain. Mother is my favorite game hands down but before this I found him to be underwhelming. He's basically the giygas anti-christ. haha
I think the saddest part is Porky expected Ness to follow him into the future to stop him, but Ness probably never showed up.

To me, Porky is the best kind of villain. He's so hate-able, he gives you that feeling of "Oh, you just missed me, you'll see me next time, not!" And never really showing up until the very end, however you know he's responsible for everything. So heartless but, he's also so human. If things had gone differently for him, just a bit differently, maybe he wouldn't see the world the way he does, filled with just people he can hate next. Where as Ness, most people are just, friends waiting to be made. Porkey's was an unfortunate case, and it happens. He one of the realest villains of all time, really.
A child from a shitfaced family is the scariest villain in any game I have ever played. Move aside eldricht abominations, the eater of worlds is literally an eater of worlds.
If we take PSI powers to be the kids shouting, "FIRE BALL!" Or, "LIGHTNING BOLT!", Then Porky's final act was to put up an Everything Proof Shield.

I like the little detail that Porky sees Giygas in the reflection of the glass near the end. It seems symbolic, as if it's really saying "I really AM the monster now, aren't I?" Porky has become the embodiment of evil that plagues their world.

Porky is actually a truer monster than Giygas, just to prove that humans are incapable of learning their mistakes. As Giygas is the symbolic embodiment of evil (which it is a understatement as Giygas has lost his mind and unaware of his actions), Porky ended up being the physical embodiment since he manage to turn the pure peaceful people of Tazmilly into the same as us flawed humans (he even called out on them for making themselves forget the past to live peacefully) for absoutely no reason other than just to screw with what remained of humanity for his own entertainment.
Porky has totally broken the evil/wicked scale practically as bad as The Joker...he caused pretty serious things to happen. Including several deaths. And who knows who or what happened in between Mother 3...The most underated villian is the most Evilest Villian of all time.
Maybe the implication is that Porky IS Giygas. And the events of Mother 3 sealed him into that capsule, and due to Einsteinistic theories related to faster-than-light travel and the space-time continuum, he ended up way back in the past.
After the end of the world. All that is left is Porky and the Dragon which some believe that it could actually be just Gyigas being imprisoned by the needles and becomes now free to destroy the world.
Anyone else think it is creepy that Porky is trapped in the Absolutely Safe Capsule forever?

His creation got so out of hand he set the events that ended the world in motion, and heaven knows what he did in the other time zones that the timeline itself ejected him out.

Ya it is kind of sad that he is trapped in there, doomed to forever be alone but it is exactly what he wanted; a device which be absolutely safe no matter what from forces from the outside or inside.
He will be in that capsule for eternity and since he never really will die due to age or lack of food because he never needs to eat he will just be stuck there to think about what he's done and what situation he is in now.
As some others have mentioned because he traveled through time so much and destroying things at each place he visited he ended getting locked out of all time periods and got stuck in the time when mother 3 takes place. Though the evil influence he was subjected to by giygas was only because he ended up with a weak heart and will because of all the harassment his parents did to him, he started of as that kind of annoying friend who you kind of find obnoxious but he is still a kind of good person but after that he started rolling down hill from that exposure to the evil energy.
Porky is a very interesting character, and shows the heavy shift in Earthbound. Quite literally being the "I think I skipped too far" joke. Show someone who has never seen Earthbound Porky from Mother 3, and show them Porky at the beginning of Earthbound. They won't believe it's the same character.
Really love how as we pan away from the Absolutely Safe Capsule we can hear the chants of children which, if you listen closely, are actually from the movie adaptation of "Lord of the Flies," another tale of how terrible circumstances morph normal children into twisted killers. Not only that, but the chant consists of cries calling for the murder of a pig/beast (depending on where you see it in the book), which could be understood as coming from both the perspective of Porky and his enemies. Really great animation that still holds up.
Jeez, seeing Claus being transformed into a cyborg is horrifying.

Giygas wasnt evil in at all, in fact, he was sad he was forced to attack earth as he didnt want to betray maria (his humanoid adoptive mother) yet he forced himselt to because of his own species, the thing that stopped him was the lullaby that jinter and co singed to giygas, it reminded him of maria and filled him with guilt, and have retreated
Giygas hate and guilt became so powerful it destroyed his own mind and body, to the point he wssnt "evil" himself but became the defination of "evil" (considering his mind is not intact outside the devils machine, he dont even realize he is doing evil things hence making him "evil" itself)
The prayers managed to destroy him due to the same human emotions he had for maria when ninten sang the lullaby

i think this goes along with the Pollyanna fan animation really well, Pollyanna showing the lighthearted side of the story, Ness’s side, while this shows Porky’s side, evil, corrupt, irredeemable, it’s really awesome

Same here mate, same here, I remember nights later I had this nightmare with a bunch of monitors in a black void with purple cubes spinning in the background, they where noodly lit but in the center one was porky smiling and twitch around like in the FNAF 1 title screen on the top left one was Claus' white eyes and lifeless expression I think new pork city was in either the bottom one or the one on the top right and hinawas grave was bottom left. This dream still is a crazy thought that sticks with me years later.
I like how the 3d models of characters look like the clay figures of them in the player guide makes it very authentic looking

I just realized that Porky probably made the pigmasks like Nazis because he was probably learning about it in school during Mother 2/Earthbound, which adds more to his childlike nature. The pigmasks are probably how he imagined the nazis.
Over a decade later and it’s still the greatest Earthbound animation of all time.

Something to think about: In both versions, but the Japanese especially, Pokey is extremely desperate for Ness' friendship, but Ness doesn't forgive him after Happy Happy Villiage (in the Japanese version Pokey doesn't say he was kidding about still being friends, and says something to the lines of "We're still friends. Right? Right?" Meaning, TECHNICALLY Mother 3 is Ness' fault, though there was no way he could have known that.

This is so sad. Honestly it scares me a little. I miss Claus. He was such a great kid. And the only reason Porky used a Claus is because he knew that Lucas was strong and he knew Lucas would not hurt his brother so he did that so Claus would pull the needles easy. But at the end he knew who he was but he knew that he was not in full control of his body. When he saw Lucas's lightning badge he cast the lightning purposely and commit suicide. He knew if he didn't his robot body would pull the needle and end the world. He did it on purpose. So sad. :'(

I love this video it sums up Pokey perfectly. Pokey had a number of chances to change, to reflect on his actions whenever beaten but would always run away to find another opportunity to shift the odds in his favor so he wouldn't have to, and ironically his final attempt to escape the consequences of his actions was what cost him everything in the end, including his own freedom.

This is an amazing animation. I mean, your interpretation of Giygas is actually fairly creepy, the entire video feels rather unnerving, with a sense of no hope. The Porky Statue's scene reminds me of Viewtiful Joe for some reason, but it's my favorite part. Claus, Hinawa, it's all touching. But, it's a shame we probably won't see another game featuring Porky.

True, but in a perfect world, Porky in his spidery EarthBound mech would be a newcomer. In all honesty, most of the Nintendo-based bosses (Ridley, Porky, Rayquaza and Petey) in SSE could all be unique characters, but Ridley's the likeliest out of the bunch. A shame, really. I just want another Mother character, whether it be Porky or Masked Man.

They're actually saying "KILL. THE. PIG!" Followed by a quick echo of other kids screaming "Kill The Pig!", which then repeats. This is very fitting as Lord of The Flies, the book where this line is from, uses pigs (well, sows and piglets, actually) as symbols of innocence and life. I believe that by making Pokey "Porky", Itoi tapped into this symbol and used it to represent how Porky, considered one of the worst villains in Nintendo history wants his innocence back. It's actually this innocence that drove him to be the Porky we all hate: his desire to be loved and to have friends, was corrupted into a lust/necessity for EVERYONE to love him, and he would do anything to achieve that: whether it be torture, murder, inhumane experiments, resetting the whole world, even. Anything just to be loved. To have a second chance. To be with Ness again. To have different parents who wouldn't abuse him. He needs love and affection just like an innocent child.
He's been through so much shit to the point where its like he never had an innocence. His only friend was taken away from him and it wasn't even his fault or Ness'. Yet he still cherishes the ideas of friendship and love just like a child. (The theater and "Friend's Yoyo" are proof of this)
Porky is evil as a result of the evil around him. Were it for different circumstances, he never would've committed the atrocities he committed. Something that holds true for many villains, even in human history.

This animation made me respect Porky more as a villain. Mother is my favorite game hands down but before this I found him to be underwhelming. He's basically the giygas anti-christ. haha
