It's kinda coincidental that Goofy's original voice actor passed away a couple years after Goofy's fame faded away, and later Goofy came back to fame..... as a ghost.
I wouldn't say it looks worse, more different. Animation styles have changed a lot over the past hundred years, and some are going to prefer one style over another.
So Goofy's goofy personality is what made him popular in the first place and at one point they thought dimming down that goofiness would produce positive results? Foolish fools. u.u
Chances are late Gen Xers and Millennials grew up with that movie :) shit, I did and I'm happy to say it got me loving him too. The 80s and 90s were sort of a new golden age in animation, besides the fact these original cartoons from the 1st golden age were revitalized strongly again.
My favorite was when he Mickey and Donald did their own version of Jack and The Beanstalk. It's very rare to see Goofy try to help his friends through terrible times like Famine and surprisingly realistic for a cartoon.
2:34 Goofy and Pluto are both dogs. Yet Pluto walks on all fours, runs around naked and can only bark at the world. Goofy walks on two feet, wears clothing and has the power of speech - albeit, mostly to say "goofy" things. Goofy is a cartoon character created by The Walt Disney Company. He is a tall, anthropomorphic dog who typically wears a turtle neck and vest, with pants, shoes, white gloves, and a tall hat originally designed as a rumpled fedora. Goofy is a close friend of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Sources: NPR; Wikipedia
I'm not sure what my favorite Goofy appearance is, but my favorite things about him are his laugh and especially his screem every time he falls from a high place. He sure is an amazing character!
Hothhorn Not only that but he's arguably one of the most developed of the characters in Kingdom Hearts. Going through so much with Sora and Donald originally just desperate to find his friend Mickey and follow his orders as king but couldn't abandon his new friend in Sora. He's also been amazing at holding the group together because although Sora and Donald may have their little disagreements or fall outs he's the gel that holds them together to remind them all what great friends they've become. He's regularly put himself in harms way to keep his friends safe, settled arguments, been oddly perceptive despite his silly nature and helped them get through so much together when all felt hopeless (especially in Chains of Memories). I honestly feel as though this and the Goofy Movie portrayels of Goofy are the best and most developed versions of him making him so likeable and strong despite what they've gone through or how he's felt.
47D Mine too, I especially can't wait until Disney FINALLY decides to bring Max in as a Kingdom Hearts character! Can you imagine what it'd be like to see him in the games?!
Goofy is such an inspiring character if you think about it closely. He raised a kid as a single parent, and still managed to send him to college, like wow, it's amazing.
Something I've always wondered about Goofy is his constant humming/singing of a certain song. Whenever he's by himself he'll often hum/sing the grasshopper's song, "The World Owes Me a Living." Anyone else notice that? It's mostly in the older cartoons. I've never understood if that was supposed to be self-referential or if it was just implying that Goofy was a bit of a moron. After watching quite a bit of old Disney recently I started noticing how much he hummed the tune. He'll do it in pretty much every single cartoon. Where I know the song from is the cartoon of the grasshopper who plays a violin while singing about how the world owes him a living and the ants that end up having to save him from his own negligence. It's an old Merry Melodies cartoon.
Pinto Colvig played both Grasshopper and Goofy, carrying the song over from the Silly Symphony to various Goofy shorts. Likely, Colvig created the tune himself.
Im a black man and his action was the stereotypes as a black person/moon cricket not Grasshopper its a difference hes suppose to be a black face character
Just a little detail: the footage shown in 1:27 is not from 1934's version of Orphans' Benefit, but 1941's remake of the same short. In the original version he's still closer to his first design, even sporting the tail. The newer version is basically a carbon copy of the original but with all the characters redesigned to how we know them today.
I loved Goofy's educational cartoons! That ski one was (and still is!) a favorite! Same with the Christmas ones! One of my son's favorite movies of all was the Goofy movie with Goofy and Max...he watched it so much he wore out the first FOR tape and I had to buy a second one!
Goofy is probably my favourite of the classic Disney 'toon characters. The shorts presented like an instruction guide or documentary with the Narrator are always classic.
A contemporary joke: Mickey and Minnie at marriage counselor. Counselor: "I understand you're upset because you think Minnie is mentally ill." Mickey: "No, I'm upset because she's f--cking Goofy!"
Goof Troop was the best cartoons of it's time, still is my favorite. My younger brother didn't like cartoons at the time, but really enjoyed watching goof Troop whenever I tuned in to it.
***** I does explain Goof Troop a bit. I always found it strange Goofy suddenly becoming a single parent. Come to think of it I may have seen a clip from the later years as a child. I remember Goofy Drving his car into the ocean by accident and a narrator explain to him about rust before it fell to bits.
Disney's cartoons were excessively "cutesy-pie" (ugh!) while Warner's Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies proved cartoons could be popular with all ages and genuinely funny WITHOUT resorting to playing the cute angle. That's why Warner's product was VASTLY superior to that of the Disney studios.
Also, one thing I noticed since my childhood about most of the modern revivals of Mickey Mouse cartoons such as Mickey Mouse Works, House of Mouse, and even Paul Rudish's Mickey shorts is that I find these modern Mickey cartoons way funnier than the classic ones, and also the pacing in these modern Mickey cartoons are faster than the classic ones, as if they has some influence from the classic Looney Tunes shorts or even Disney's own Roger Rabbit cartoons. I wonder what was actually preventing the Disney cartoon studio from creating really funny cartoon shorts like it's counterparts over at Warner Bros. and MGM back in the 1940s and 1950s.
@@kingandrewcecil348 One major difference is the newer ones focus more on plot. In the old ones they just run around and do silly gags and there is very little plot now they put a big emphasis on the 3 act structure.
There was nothing preventing Disney except his own utter lack of talent to create ANY really FUNNY cartoons. The earlier Warner cartoons, outside the main, and familiar character features with Bugs, Porky, Elmer, Daffy and such, the Merrie Melodies shorts produced by Leon Schlessinger, a lot of them were utterly stupid. It's not until Chuck Jones, Ted Clampett, Friz and Isadore Freleng and co. came on board at Warners did the really GREAT Warner Merrie Melodies and Looney Toons(or Tunes) classic shorts start to be produced. So while Warner's product improved RAPIDLY, there was ABSOLUTELY NO IMPROVEMENT AT ALL in the Disney camp, Disney kept churning out those saccharine-sweet overly-cute crap shorts they always did, except they started producing feature-length drivel, which made things 10 times worse. Warners, by contrast, kept their features short, never more than 8 minutes, and quick-paced, and that's what made Warner's cartoons, other than those produced by Leon Schlessinger, far superior to Disney's drivel.
I love this video. I love seeing the history of characters and how they developed over the last century. And hooooly shit I watched House of Mouse when I was 5 back in 2002. I almost completely forgot about that show!
Yeah, sad to see that Goofy became a total failure as representing a normal adult during those times. I'm so glad to see that he came back as he used to. :)
I actually liked some of those "normal" ones. The ones where he becomes a father, tries to stop smoking, catches a cold and goes insane on the road were hilarious. There were a few more that were good. But yeah, the ones where he is like the modern and Dippy Dawg-esque character is where he is at his best.
My dad would always mimic Goofy when he got me up for school as a child. And I loved the character a lot for just how...Hilarious he was. Goofy movie and the X-tremely Movie are my favorite to this day.

WatchMojo.com Goofy was always one of my favorite cartoon characters! 1:14 I saw this one, and it is funny to see those two goats get mad at him, knock him out and then laugh the same way he did. LOL! The best time though was when he became a dynamic trio with Mickey Mouse and Donald. I loved watching the newer cartoons of this plot on House of Mouse, however they wouldn't be what they were then without "The Moving Day" and "Clock Cleaners"! They are very funny! 2:47 Oh yeah I remember this one too! It was funny. Thank you for posting this for us and Jesus loves you! :D

Yeah Goofy does have an actual part so does Donald and even Mickey since he's the king and I'm sure that can't be a cameo.

It's a cameo because he's not originally from kingdom hearts. Every character that's not created for kingdom hearts are cameos

Goofys 90s stint in that cartoon series is what made me a fan. I am apart of the new generation!
I love the Goof. He is my all time favorite. For my fiftieth birthday my brother got me a Goofy watch with my name on it. I wear it just about every day.
