In this video I'm showing you the best way to screed a concrete floor. If you want to learn how to screed concrete like a pro, I'm going to tell you what we use for a screed and my best tips on how to use it.
Screeding a concrete floor doesn't have to be intimidating. If you know the basic steps and what to look for while you're screeding, the process isn't very hard.
The key is to have the right tools, especially the right screed, and a basic understanding on now to use them.
I use both the Shockwave Vibra-Screed tool and different length hand screeds to install my concrete floors and slabs.
The Shockwave vibra-screed really makes screeding concrete very easy. I'll show you all you need to know in the video and give you some tips on what I look for while I'm screeding my floors.
If you have any questions or comments about the Shockwave, just leave them below and I'll do my best to answer them.

Hey mike I like all your videos I’ve been taught the same ways with concrete from my dad you do awesome work mike my father and I are full mason he’s been doing it for 48 years he was trying for 50 but recently had a hip replacement and will have to get the other one replaced as well I’m going on my 20th year this is my first year without him I was fifteen when I started full time with him and concrete was one the most that kept use going all the time we’ve always used just a screed board but we are always willing to try new tools or equipment out so my father got a vibe screed and it was awesome mostly used it for big jobs and for a stiff slump it sure saved ware on the back too ares wasn’t a marshalltown though I bet it’s a top notch tool I love marshalltown use all there hand tools they are the best in my preference! Our vibe screed got ran over by the concrete truck it sucked not having it around anymore I’ve tried to get it fixed but it’s a lost cause anyways long story sort I’ve been wanting to get one for a while and it’ll be awesome for my father to get back into it when he can return and vibe screening would be perfect for his return! Look forward in watching and liking your future videos mike

Also, We have been in the pool business for 36 years and we have always subcontracted out our concrete work but in these prosperous times it is hard to get people to do the meticulous work that we demand with a pleasing attitude. My 21 year old son is taking over the business and we are going to start pouring our own concrete decks, therefore we have been doing a lot of research on different tools and the Shockwave by Marshalltown is going to be added to our arsenal. Hope we win lol!

Hi Mike, really like your videos, very informative, I just bought a shockwave for my build, waiting for delivery, we are building two homes and two shops in AZ. Even though they are pricey, they look very well made, I at first bought a stark with the honda motor and what a piece of junk, tried to put it together and gave up, never even put gas in it and returning it, so I ordered the shockwave from HD Supply ( great price). I am 64 and most of my help are older but experienced and hoping the shockwave will save our backs! so I am really looking forward to giving the power screed a try, thanks for the tips...!!!

“Shockwave - Vibra Screed”. I screed by hand. I’ve borrowed a vibra screed once. The guys on the rakes will make or break you on these so training your rakers is key. They have to move fast and keep the right amount of concrete in front of the bar. About a 1” roll in front of the bar seems right. If you run over a low spot, stop and move the screed back and go over the low spot again after your raker pushes more concrete in to the low spot. Thanks for your videos.

We have both, but prefer using a dago striking stick we can do it as fast also as goo as the power screed, the thing about power screed if you are not careful you end up getting it too wet then it comprises the concrete, so we pour no more then a 5.5 at the most, we Consolidate the stones then roll that way.

@@MikeDayConcrete Hey Mike. I'm trying to decide on a screed to buy. Do you think the Screedemon or the Marshalltown is the superior machine? Honest opinion. From what I've watched in your videos, it seems the shockwave is a little faster. Thnx.

We have a 12’ screed board the is absolutely a bear to use with one machine, but with a eight or six its pretty easy.

Steve, all I use is the 12' board. Doesn't seem too bad to me.

Mike: Great presentation. Did you use welded steel mesh or rebar in this slab? I've never worked with concrete, and I will be pouring a slab for a backyard woodworking shop, probably 20' x 24' give or take. So I am watching a lot of videos so I can help the finishers if needed. Thanks.

You can use the welded wire mesh in the slab. I also lay 2 rows of rebar around the edges for more support on the edge.
