The main reason I watched this video was to see about disconnecting the front driveshaft, which is the only thing not discussed. lol The 1st time I pulled only the engine, and 4 of us struggled for 3 hours trying to slip into the trans. My right front cylinder head to timing cover o-ring failed to seal, so I have to remove and disassemble again to repair. A well made informative video and thanks.
Thanks so much for your videos, Benzina. I'm always intrigued on the service and maintenance for Lamborghinis. While reviews are abundant (perhaps overly so), I very rarely find helpful, informative, non-flashy videos that teach about this side to these cars.
Fantastic video exactly what I was looking for thank you. Are the solenoids in front of the camshafts there to have the intakes firing 4 x 3 cyl. for better low-end torque?
WOW! what a great video. Thanks for the tips. It'll definitely come in handy. I'm looking to omit the primary cats and install my bypass pipes. LP640 require the engine to be slightly lifted. I was wondering if I could just unbolt the 3 mounts and put a block to lift it slightly without having to unbolt the axles and other items. Curious what your thought would be. Thanks again for this video. Very informative.
As it happens after the engine went in, a few months later I needed to replace the side engine mounts. Lesson learned a 1 minute job with the engine out turned into a 20 hour job). The engine only needed to be lifted a few inches yet almost everything needed to be disconnected including draining the cooling system, oil system, and removing the driveshafts. The fuel rail remained connected and little else. The engine can barely move with the driveshafts in place so I would assume that in your case you will be disconnecting most things to get the engine lifted enough to get the primary cats out.
Awesome video. Do you have to remove the coolant overflow tank to get access to the fuel filters? Going to ask my shop to take care of that for me when they go to install your 2WD conversion.
Thank you for the video!! Very helpful and love all the detail. Question... Is removal with the E-gear VS a Manual any different in terms of removal together or separate... meaning would you change taking them out together vs separately? Thank you
An E-Gear is even trickier to remove in two pieces so to answer your question removing the whole assembly is always best. What made zero sense to me was in the Hoovies Garage videos they removed the engine and gearbox separately in order to do a gearbox change. That is the WORST of all worlds as it gives you the most wrestling and will fight you every step of the way. To make things worse they did not learn their lesson and put it back in two pieces. I would not have wanted to pay that service bill.
@@benzina5917 The last part of your message may have explained it all... the didn't know and someone was paying by the hour... I do agree it makes sense to remove together after seeing this video and hearing from the expert in very good detail. Glad he it putting this out there!!
Exhaust manifolds and the entire exhaust system is made from stainless steel. What you visibly see is the heat shielding which is also stainless but discolors almost immediately due to heat. The quality of manufacture is actually very high. I do not know the weight.
Huh, Lamborghini engines are mounted backwards compared to normal mid engine cars. The transmission setup has more in common with a 911. That kind of destroys my plan to drop this into an Ultima kit car chassis. The auxiliaries are on the wrong side which prevents the engine from being pushed right up to the firewall so wheelbase extensions won't be required. Back to modding M120 V12...

Very thoughtful information on working on this model.
This is amazing thank you for the in depth detail on pulling out the motor and putting it back in!
Good tips. Thanks for the info.
Love, it, thank you..

Thank you for the kind words. Our CZcams channel is tiny so we have no commercials and only post informative stuff. No fluff pieces.
Great channel. Keep up the great work
Brilliant and informative video!! I'll be following your footsteps this winter :)

Isn't that going to cause a perpetual check engin light on?

Yes the coolant overflow tank needs to come out to replace the fuel filters. Thanks for the kind words

please Is there a way to manually adjust the gearbox assembly?
There is a bit of alignment adjustment that can be done but realistically there is very little to adjust.
What are the exhaust manifolds made of? How much do they weigh? Is it just me or do they look cheaply made?

Back to modding M120 V12...
I wonder how many hours you need to complete the job, and is it true that the man hour is about 25 hours according to the flat rate?
25 hours to remove and re-install the engine is a fair number. I'm sure it can be done quicker but then again one bad bolt and you can loose hours.
@@benzina5917 I usually done it in a week (40 hours). 25 hours will brake my bones... I don't want that to happen.... lol
