There are so many knots out there that it becomes confusing. My current rule of thumb is that if you are not losing fish due to knot failure, keep doing what you are doing. If your knots are failing, learn a new one. Using really ultra light line plus my ancient eyes makes some of these knots impossible to tie.... for me.
Good tip, I’ve noticed most anglers say just find a knot you can tie easily , since some are actually fairly hard !! i used to think I needed the strongest knot, but truly it’s doesn’t really matter , a simple knot that’s done correctly can actually work very well

I"m right there with you. I'm 66 and the only knot I've ever used is the clinch knot. HOWEVER, I have come to understand that some lures are best with some type of non-slip loop knot. So, I've learned one of those. The only other scenario is tying lines together, so I have one of those. That's it. Your thoughts are so practical. Unless you're losing fish to poor knots, there's nothing to change. Thank you for making a lot of us feel better!
This looks like a doubled clinch knot with an added Palomar Loop. Looks okay, but not necessary for Ultralight fishing. Maybe Bass or bigger species.
I have been fishing for more than 50 years and know a lot of knots but find you only really need to know 3 or 4 simple knots.
On CZcams I see a lot of videos of unnecessarily complicated knots. I think a lot of the people that make these videos just like tying knots 😂.
I do a lot of night fishing on beaches ( especially in winter) and like to keep things simple.
Yes I've never had a knot failure and use only 2 or 3 simple knots

the most basic standard one I believe... just works (for me)
This knot and the blood knot is all I use. Never had any problems yet. Simple the better in my eyes

Hi i am new to fishing. Less than a month. I had one catfish snag my line then ran odd with it. But she cane back and i caught her to retrieve and relieve her of pain. Once i put this knot on she couldnt break it and i felt very proud when i pulled out my first catty. Beautiful lil gal and so much fight. It was a pleasure using your method and releasing this wonderful lady back into the water. Thank you for your advice!

I use the Palomar for Braid running direct to hook and FG to connect Braid to Floro leader-

I use the Bimini twist knot for the swivels and last week Sunday I used it on a HALCO GIANT TREMBLER RED HEAD WITH WHITE BODY lure and caught a 30 pound GT (GIANT TREVALLY) here in HAWAII. Broke 2 ft of the top of the popping pole which was New and first time use lifting it out of the water but the knot held up fine with no problems at all. Have 77 lb 12 strand PE BRAIDED LINE on a penn spinfisher 950ssm reel and used the GT knot to join 250 lb 8 strand PE BRAIDED LINE for the leader 2ft long.

Just tie like a blood knot they are so easy and i have never had one break on me at the knot
A regular 6 turn salmon knot is better. It ties faster on thinner diameter line. This knot gets harder to tie when you use smaller lb test.
Yep. That's the one my dad and I always used. Don't recall it ever failing in decades of fishing.
@@GalathNox - Damn right. My dad showed me that knot when I was 10 years old. I'm 56 in August, and that's the knot I always use. It's my only fishing knot.

TRY WRAPPING THE LINE 2 TIMES THROUGH THE EYE OF THE SWIVEL FIRST LIKE THE BERKLEY KNOT THEN DO THE UNI AND LOOP AROUND THE ENTIRE SWIVEL. IT'S WAY STRONGER AND WONT COME OFF FOR SURE!
Looks like a double strand clinch not with a Palomar loop.
