But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Amazing!! But Bianca you gotta give us the scoop on your shirt in the intro??!
I, too, would love to know about that shirt. The gathering is very cute.
Yes I agree! It's Fabulous 🤩
I'm yeah.. love it!
I'm going to try and knock it off soon! This one was from Amazon....😬😅
Me too love it xx
As a Canadian in winter, I shake my fist at your drafting impractical hoods! (J/k, I can figure out how to make a hood that works for me).
As for the look, it makes me think of Dune. Reading it, I always imagined drapey hooded things and high collars in earth tones.
Thank you Patty!
Hi Patty, I'm in Canada too. I love these hoods. I'd wear a really classy toque with them or maybe a beret to give it that WWII French Resistance vibe.
IDK that I'd call it costumey or cosplay-ish... I think it's a high fashion but absolutely practical and wearable look. Cargos and shiny/metalic daywear are all over the place right now. I think you could get a lot of mileage out of this vest.
Thank you Marcella!
@@TheClosetHistorian Its MUGLER! ;)
I would not have expected brown and grey to look this great together
Winter vests with hoods can be a great top layer. Sandwich a layer of insulation fleece lining in there and take the top stitching all the way to quilting and this would be practical as well.
I was thinking this would be great for cross country skiing, if I made it in a light wool.
I think there was a style for an outter garment in the past in northern europe that was a vest with a hood and scarf all in one. I think it was very useful for the working woman to keep warm but not interfeer with her work, or play. It may have been a painting of working class people ice scating. It may have been one of Karolina's videos...
Perfect timing for the Corset Hoodie sew along with @shannonmakes !
Oh yeah, you are right. I like her too.
I think this actually is pretty utilitarian! I do a lot of mushroom hunting and hiking, and I could see doing this in a silnylon for a pocket-sized packable item to keep the head and core dry has a lot of potential.
That's a fantastic idea! Someone needs to roll with that idea. There is a market for it 😁
I dont know if outer wear will be what she would want to release 1st for her pattern line. I don't know I could be wrong, I mean not when my hubby is around anyway 🤣
Could you show the maintenance on the machine? I think this would be useful to so many of us! 😊
I would love to know more about you ideas on magic systems and why you're picky. I don't know if your trilogy has magic, but if ever you need an idea for a side hustle video maybe discuss why you're picky about magic and maybe the setting of your books if that even fits together.
I guess it's less that I'm picky and more that I mostly don't like it. It's too often used to suddenly solve problems and plot holes, suddenly create problems or plot holes, used inconsistently, and I just don't love over powered characters or beings (I also find monsters and mechs very boring). Personally I much prefer things grounded in reality, so none of my own fiction work has magic. I write speculative fiction, so slightly dystopian future where the closest to magic I've got going on is that there are cars that can fly, but that has no bearing on the story at any point.
I simply prefer regular old science to magic. I like morally gray characters and situations as opposed to "evil warlocks!!" "good witches!" "this ones a god!!". I think the most interesting evil is deceptively mundane, and the most engaging heroes are faulted and human.
@@TheClosetHistorian Amazing Response! Worth the read!! ❣️
That outfit would be PERFECT to wear to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge the next time you're at Disneyland! It's got strong Resistance vibes. 😍
I still haven't been and my SW loving heart very much wants to visit!!
thick burrito is my favourite kind of burrito. I love this look, it's such a fun hooded item! Vintage Singers are so brilliant, my featherwieght from '46 is such a workhorse and 'portable' to boot, if you call 45lbs portable!
Thank you Kathryn! Got to love a vintage machine ✨❤️
45lbs? My featherweight is a lot lighter than that.
This garment is🔥
Thank you Pauline!
I'm in awe of how well balanced the different colors are! and the exact shape/draping of the open mask/lapels being perfectly parallel and even makes my brain very happy!
Thank you Kimberly!
The silk taffeta gives me strong Mac Blue Brown vibes and I love it.
One of the OG favorites!!
I don't know anyone that wouldn't wear this!! It is fabtastic!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Sarah!
I'm so inspired! Thank you for your videos....I love them all so far. I just bought me a Singer 99k and I'm getting back to sewing and quilting soon! I've been seriously ill but I'm recovering rather slowly. This is why I've had time to watch your channel. Again, thanks, and I truly appreciate your creativity, looks, drafting, and designs. Although I am a male, I'll figure it out and do it.
Years ago, I saw a quilt entirely made from scraps of ribbon and cottons all the size of postage stamps. This was constructed entirely by hand. This was done by a Civil War soldier while he was recovering from his injuries. And it was beautiful! You will figure it out!
Thank you! I hope you are feeling 100% soon!
@@damogranheart5521 Thanks for your comment. I think you're psychic because I am trying to construct a quilt that has small squares..16 patch plus horizontal stripes alternating.
@c cowley Shortly after the extinction of the dinosaurs, I became interested in quilting. An author that I discovered was Georgia Bonesteel. She had a TV show on PBS called 'Lap Top Quilting'. She divided the quilt up into manageable sections. She has a book out now called 'Scrappy Quilting' and an upcoming PBS Special March 18th of this year. This brings back fond memories of making fabric out of cut-off strips and making them into a bear claw quilt design. And like Bianca, Georgia advocates ironing seams!
P.S. Quilting out of doors blows the mental cobwebs away, refreshes the lungs, and heals the body!
It could be a practical garment for cold, since it would keep your face warm nicely!
One of these days, I need to make myself a bodice block and make this vest to my preferences. I *ADORE* high collars and hoods so I would wear this *constantly*
Look out becuase I have another high collar design coming soon 😅✨
Love this colour combo! That silk just brings them together like *chef's kiss*. Very cool to see how to put together a hood and a collar and a wrap front all at the same time! My mental cogs are whirring now 💜
Another vote for showing us your machine maintenance, if it's not a big pain in the arse to film. I've got a 1960s Singer and although I'll merrily take a screwdriver to most things with gay abandon, I'm always cautious about fiddling with the machine.
Thank you! The machine maintenance is super basic stuff is all, cleaning out the fluff and oiling the spots the instruction booklet says too pretty much 😅
I REALLY like this design. The collar looks perfect for winter wind and I just love hoods in general!
Thank you!
"I'm very picky about magic..." Me too... but your videos got it.
Ha! Thank you!
The burrito method of lining is how I learned how to line jackets. It was nightmare when I learned, but over time I got it. I adore the colour contract and fabric selection. Beautiful job, Bianca!
Thank you!
@@TheClosetHistorian, You're welcome!
I really enjoy seeing you craft the ideas in your head to make one of a kind beautiful garments. Bravo TCH! 👏
Thank you Stephanie!
Oh the colour blocking and multi-colour lining work wonderfully together. That combined with the small shaping details are very cool
Thank you Sarah!
Your Singer reminds me of my mom's machine which my father gifted her on their first anniversary, just a month before I was born in 1956. My niece has it now and it still works.
Amazing vest! Absolutely love it! And I'm excited to see your take on dieselpunk!
Thank you!! Working away at it behind the scenes ✨
ya know, your iron's manual may say that regular tap water is preferred over distilled water!
your garments are hot fire, as always!
Thank you! Lets just pretend the manual says that then 😅😂
I like that point in the back. Having a collar like that could be helpful when you are around people who are sick. I just wear my mask when I am away from home. For some reason some people are offended by my mask.
I still wear my masks too! ❤️
This is absolutely a video I needed. Husband and I are going to Youmacon at the beginning of November and we are cosplaying Gary Numan from his last two album covers. Husband's has this type of tall collar thing that we weren't sure how we were going to accomplish (Numan's looks like a separate piece, but it's not exactly what we want to do for the costume). =) Thank you, Bianca!
I love the bump outs! I now have a vision of a triple bump to get that stacked iconic art deco look. I definitely need a project I can do that on. More and more I think the vintage sewing machine feet are so much better for stuff like this. I have miles of piping in my immediate future (corded petticoat) and I'm seriously considering doing it on my 201k treadle just so I can use a vintage zip foot.
Thank you! I seriously prefer my vintage zipper foot, so I'd have to agree the old buddies are just better!
Best sewing (etc) channel!!! ❤ from 🇨🇦
Thank you!!
Gosh you're Amazing 👏👏
I can picture your garments in so many movies!
Freakin Awesome 🤩👍
Thank you Sandy!
How cute! This would be awesome to keep in the car for wearing at those restaurants who crank up the air conditioning a smidge too high.
I’m itching to see your tie dyes❤. I hope a video is in the plans. I love ice dye. So much interesting “texture”. It’s been a while since I dyed anything but I have collected a mountain of cotton and rayon fabric to dye. Should get busy on it I guess😂
Thank you Cynthia! First ice dyeing video coming this week!
Yay!!!
Love it! You look like a space adventurer about to explore an overgrown urban jungle. Can't wait to try it
Thank you!
oooh do you think this could work on a "capelet" and maybe it could hook into the inside of the hood, as that could/would help the hood stay up. So many ideas. Love how you make me think, now just to try and put that into practice, yikes...
Try starting with a mini version, like the size that would fit an American girl doll. It's a great way to work out garment ideas without using gobs of fabric.
YYYEEEESSSS!!!! Love all I’m hearing in the intro ; high collar, hood, Rick Owens… just yesthankyou. 🤩
I have used the burrito method before. It saves an enormous amount of time and frustration. Love the color blocking. Hugs
Thank you Donna!
I love seeing how garments come together. Your fabric is wonderful!
Thank you Dannie!
You might check and see if she needs to be greased. I oil the majority of my 403a. But once a year I take her apart and grease her.
I always learn so much watching your videos!
That shirt is stunning in the intro!❤
Once again, gorgeous! I wouldn't mind wearing a piece like this for everyday wear. I also love how the taffeta ties the 2 color blocks together.
Thank you Mandy!
kind of in love with the slightly verdigris'd color pallette you've got going, but also i started to feel like i needed a "buddy" counter halfway through the video. Can't help but to anthropomorphize our projects!
Thank you! So much patina coming soon!
Another great project! Absolutely love the suspenseful music that you put on while you were sewing the neckline. Beware do not sew any extra bits mwahaha 😂
Thank you Darylyn!
I adore the vest! I might omit the hood for it but love the big face covering neckline option is so interesting and flexible. I want to take a princess coat pattern I have and add an element like this
I needed this coat in my life. Thank you for this tutorial.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
This is so fire I'm in awe.
Thank you!! ❤️
I like this vest, I definitely want to attempt it
Absolutely stellar! I can't wait to make this.
Thank you! Do ittt 🧵✨
Now, that is WAY cool! I love it.
Thank you Dawn!
That vest is so EVERYTHING! It's got Such a VIBE! Looks comfy, easy to wear, chic, avant guarde, and editorial. HOW?! Also your intro shirt. Inquirers want to know.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! Hoping to knock off the top for a video soon ✨
@@TheClosetHistorian Fabulous! I'm looking forward to it!
I really like it! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Elizabeth!
Love the brown shot! I have a few hoods I need to do, and have been putting off. Thank you.
I've been so looking forward to this I've actually been working towards a bodice block since the synapse video just so I could make one. Excited for the coat version too, although I think I will probably be making that sleeveless, because Australia
This is so cute!
Thank you!
the sensational, talented Ms. B!!! always inspiring!!!
Thank you Marcco!
I so want to learn to do what you do. I love how you just make what you think would look cool. I want to do that too.
It’s so mesmerising to watch your work ❤ Thank you for sharing ❤
Thank you! ❤️
This is so awesome. I must add this to my wardrobe. Most things make me too hot so it might be the right level of layer.
Love it ❤ the collar and incorporated like this: wonderful😊
Thank you Diana!
So loved that vest it turned out so nice.
Thank you!
That silk is such a beautiful match for the rest of the garment…I love your choices so much
Thank you Corey!
I love this so much. 🔥I'm still a beginner. So much to learn. 😅🖤
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched. My daughter is in fashion design school and sent me the link. She told me about your pattern making skills. I enjoyed it very much, thanks!
Thank you Cynthia!
Love love love love!!!!!!!
Thank you Thea!
That silk taffeta is sooo beautiful! And the collar looks very cool🥰
Thank you!
I love the brown top you're wearing in the intro/outro too! So chic.
Thank you!
I too am picky about magics!! I love this so much!
Thank you!
❤ love so much! ❤ thank you I will be revisiting this many times as reference 🙏
Also to enjoy the sewing fun ❤
Thank you Tara!
Thank you so much for showing us how to make this one! I know it's a combination of a bunch of stuff you've already shown us but my mind just couldn't figure out how to do a collar AND a hood. Now I know! I can't wait to make my own :)
Thank you Kathy!
I am new to your channel and think you are awesome. I don't even sew, but love your style and all that jazz. I have only gotten into dresses this past year, but i'm all in!! Thank you for the great content. Sidenote, you are gorgeous.
Thank you!
this looks incredible. I love the copper patina silk
Thank you!
I’m so in love with this ❤ I’m hoping to make it to an apocalypse themed event at the end of the year and am loving the Mad Maxx meets Dune meets Blade Runner vibes. Thanks as always for sharing 🥰🙏
Thank you Clare! Many more Dune/Blade Runner vibes coming soon ✨
Very cool!
Thank you!
This is STUNNING! Thank you for sharing, now I just need to learn how to sew....
Thank you! Do ittt!
the vest turned out really cool
Thank you!
Love it. I need to do some major stash busting this year (no room left for new fabric) and this is giving me ideas of how to get rid of those odd half metres.
Thank you! Color blocking is always the answer in my world 😂
Hi Bianca, I have to say, I love the top you are wearing. It is gorgeous. I do think that the top you made with the grey and brown fabric is totally enhanced with the organza fabric. You are amazing. X
Rrrrrrrrrriiiight? I'm all about asymmetry, so those gathers have my attention.
Thank you Debra!
Funny about being picky about magic.......MEE TOOO - lots of stuff seems cool but I just avoid it because I have my own imagination hahaha love this design. Love your imagination ps the COLORS 😍
Thank you Michelle!
look like a piece that would fit into Star Wars at the Black Spire outposts (Disneyland and Disneyworld)! excellent work
Thank you Alyssa!
Being someone who lives in a vary cold place I can appreciate your sentiments, and as for the colours you chose for your high collar hooded vest they're just lovely! :)
Thank you!
Oh dang, I'm so tempted to make this. I've done a lot of cosplay but I've never actually constructed a garment before, just retrofitted existing ones. It'll be a big leap but dang if it doesn't look so COOL!!
Thank you! You've got this!! One step at a time 🪡🧵
I absolutely love this. I echo other commenters; your videos are alway a treat. Strange for me since I've always gone with a loose fitting funky folky vibe. I'm now watching all your basic drafting vids and once I have my sloper I'm going to try something more fitted. I'd love to make this hooded vest into the bodice of a longer coat.
Thank you Elaine! Totally could just sew a skirt onto this buddy to make a coat for sure!
So cool
I am planning to make a princess seam vest soon, and was thinking about how to make it reversible... been contemplating trying some piping at the edges where the two different fabrics meet, so thank you for showing this method. I haven't seen it before but it looks like it would make for a very nicely lined garment. I've got your vest video queued up for later. Though I don't think I'm brave enough for the burrito method, I'll just hand-sew that part, and it won't be complicated by a hood. And I will choose a colour of piping and topstitching that works for both sides, since I expect each side to be competing flavours of purple...
and I LOOOOVE that silk, ooooh iridescent anything, want!! ... Hmm, maybe that scrap of iridescent pink and purple stuff I have in the stash will work with the bright purple fashion fabric I've already selected as one side...? Musings of someone who needs to stash bust!
As always, I watch your videos and find a new look I am desperate to try. I love love this - if only my skill matched my enthusiasm. However, this year I am focusing on keeping a good outlook - my sewing doesn't need to be perfect, it needs to be fun! Enjoying the process is more important to me than the finished garment. I will be adding more hoods to my projects for sure though!
Thank you! You can get there! 🧵
Or like a quarian I'm mass effect which was exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! Found you looking for beginners stuff and you had a rant video about not using commercial patterns instantly subscribed and was not disappointed 😊
Thank you!
So I just received a 1910 singer, I know how to restore the wood but have no idea what the mechanics need, seems mostly everything works but I was wondering if you knew anything important I might need before restoration starts
I love this Bianca! Brilliant! You lost me at the burrito method, even though it's not the first time I have seen you do that method. Maybe if I watch it another time or two, or perhaps attempt a hands-on piece, it will finally click and the light bulb will go on. I am just in awe of your design talent! I can't wait for the coat!💜💜💜
Thank you Elizabeth! Luckily one can get around the burrito with hand sewing, the burrito is just faster 😂🧵
Uuuh, I can't wait to see your steampunk/dieselpunk interpretation! Also, happy about the no gears thing (nothing more cringey than randomly glued on gears that doesn't even have the illusion of having a function).
Thank you Erica! I love patina and rust, so I'm excited to create in that "vibe" ✨
Oh how I wish you had a clothing line for saleCan't wait to see you on project runway
I have a "post-apocalyptic future glam" themed wedding to go to in a few months and I think I'll be using this pattern + sleeves for my suit jacket (with an iridescent taffeta lining, of course)
Always love an iridescent lining ✨
Last video you mentioned you would soon be looking for a house. Cape May NJ is well known for its Victorian houses. NJ has a lot of victories as n homes all over the state but Cape May is best known for them.
I have an old-ish iron probably late 90s to 2005 range it was in the house when I moved in. It works fine but will spit and sputter water all over if I rush. I use to use tap but we have EXTREMELY mineral-y water here so I had to switch to distilled and then used reverse osmosis water as that became a cheaper option for me. The iron definitely last longer and behaves more with the di/ro water.
The vest is genius, a wild mix of elegance and badass-ery. And that iridescent lining! So cool! The brown drapy top underneath is also gorgeous--if by chance you sewed that, it would be fun to know more.
Thank you Gwen! I'll be trying to knock off the top soon 😅
I 💗 it! Maybe I can use the pandemic as an accuse to make standing collars a staple in my outerwear. They are kinda badass.
YES I AM LIVING!!!! When I'd seen that vest on your instagram I felt a hefty need to make one myself! Thank you so much for this video!! Standing collars are a mysterious science to me still in my sewing journey.
Thank you Alexandra!
@@TheClosetHistorian II had a quick follow-up question about collars! I noticed you didn't use any interfacing, is the nature of the twill, being a little sturdier, allowing you to skip interfacing? Or do you feel in hindsight it would have helped? (Although I guess with the added clip its not as big a deal)
@@alexandranash3947 When I use stiffer and sturdier fabrics I don't feel the need to use interfacing! Plus this collar is huge, and I would wear it down most of the time, so it being softer and falling into lapels is more important than having it stand up to attention anyhow.
@@TheClosetHistorian that makes a lot of sense! Thank you so much for answering my question :) I'll keep that in mind for when I make my own hehehehe
Wow! You look good in brown 🤎
Thank you!
The collar popped up makes me wanna make a Sasuke Uchiha cosplay SO BADLY
This is not a character I know of, but I'm happy to help 😅 My anime knowledge is limited becuase I am super picky about it 😂
@@TheClosetHistorian He's from Naruto haha. Honestly, not knowing Naruto might actually be a blessing 😅🤣
