OMG! When I saw this, I screamed! We used to listen to her record at the CD store where I worked and we laughed so hard, tears streamed down our faces. You must get her record! It's completely priceless. And now, finally, after decades, they've actually made a movie. With Meryl and Hugh no less. I would go, no matter who starred, but this is going to be rich, rich, rich. Yes, Oscar waits in the wings, no doubt; wincing, no doubt, and winking, but there nonetheless!

Brilliant, BRILLIANT movie!! My most enjoyable evening in the cinema this year. If this doesn't win Meryl Streep another Oscar there ain't no justice!! She is quite wonderful, funny and also deeply touching, giving Florence real life. For me it's Hugh Grant's finest performance in a very long time and quite possibly a career best. Simon Helberg does a wonderful job as Cosme McMoon. His scene in the elevator following his first encounter with Madame Florence is almost worth the ticket price on its own. Can't wait to see it again.

This movie is gonna be very good and super funny for many reasons: first the story itself is not only true but also very interesting and bizarre . Second I trust Meryl Streep and her choices (and sure her acting is the best). Third the director Stephen Frears is one of the most successful directors and he's got plenty of great and acclaimed movies (such as: Philomena, The Grifters, The Queen, High fidelity....etc).... so I really can't wait to watch this...

I wish I had her courage. i sing better than that but I am afraid to share my music with anyone. still, I love it, and maybe the joy is what really matters. i should perform even if no one likes it but me. That is the line that takes the Joe Raposo song from children's ditty to timeless wisdom: don't worry if it's not good enough for anyone else to hear. just sing.

Go for it just start taking small steps doing things in public. I am 55 and I feel like I have held back on a lot of things and that is not the way to live. You have to push through the fear and make sure you have the support of others with you. Many people with only adequate voices sing at church and other places because they enjoy it. You never know where it might lead you. It may or may not be in singing but it might lead you to a person or passion you were meant to encounter.

How dare they do this to my memories of Florence. For years I have been introducing Aunt Flo to friends and family and watching their reactions. Now all they'll see is this damned movie. It happened to Praire Home Companion, to Lord of the Rings, and others too - totally spoilt my enjoyment of the original and now this.
I hope it goes well, but really, is nothing sacred?

This wonderful lady surely must have been the inspiration for the Susan Alexander character in Orson Welles' CITIZEN KANE. Oddly there isn't any mention of her in most articles about the film. But Welles must have been very familiar with FFJ. She was well-known by the media in NYC in the 30s before he made his classic flick. And note, his main character's name was Charles FOSTER Kane and his mistress was a very untalented opera singer. Consider also, that Ms. Foster was the daughter of Charles FOSTER. Film buffs often state that the Susan Alexander character is based on actress Marion Davies, mistress of newspaper tycoon William Randolf Hearst. But that's unfair to Davies who was actually a fine comedic actress. In fact, Orson Welles wrote the forward to Marion Davies autobiography and in it he apologized that people mistook her for the Susan Alexander character.
