Times are tough for lots of people. It is commendable to both you and the owners who originally purchased Archie as a pup for doing the right thing for the dog rather than just taking the easy way out and dumping him at a shelter. You both have my respect! ❤❤

Dogs love to go to work. It's amazing to see how excited they get. I had a Brittany who just howled when it was time to hunt or compete.
I think Archie will be hybrid. He will be good enough to go out with you to the field, but not quite good enough to be a full blown Woking dog.
He will also try and be a pet dog at night, instead of being in the kennels
I think with patience & time Archie will fit in somehow as a working dog.
I've never trained a working dog, but in my limited experience, dogs become somewhat easier to train after they're a year old.
Since a lot of the sheep/herding work is instinctive for border collies, I think there's a good chance he can become a working dog with the experienced trainer that you are.
The old adage of you can't teach an old dog new tricks isn't true at all. I vote for Archie becoming a full working dog, it's in his blood and he looks eager enough. Love the wonky ear 😅 good luck!

Archie looks like Kate. I wonder what she thinks having her son there. My Tess loved her son, JackBNimble, and they played soccer and frisbee together. One of her sons-not his brothers-became a therapy dog for a young girl with CP. He also became known to predict her seizures (as Tess detected my Diabetic glucose highs and lows).
My Border Collie’s two favorite toys are his soccer ball and his frisbee!

It’s going to take a little while for him just to be accepted into the pack as well as for him to get to understand his place in it and respond to the commands you need to teach him. Before you even think about letting him near the sheep. You don’t yet know his personality but likely he will learn from watching the other dogs to some extent and I know you will give it your all with the training and whether he makes it or not, he will make a great dog as a house dog or farm dog and be very much loved either way.
You are an awesome trainer/ dog person. My bet is that Archie will want a job to do and he will eagerly try…and surprise you with his many abilities!

Kate's boy, Storm's brother. I think he will be so happy becoming a Sheepdog it will keep his mind busy. Once he gets out there and sees his family working I think the switch will turn on. He will love his new job. I love your dog logo. I plan on getting a coffee cup for myself for Christmas I am looking for a hoodie although I only wear zip-ups.
I don’t think 3 years is too old. As long as he has the instinct for herding, he’ll be fine. And he will have the other working dogs to follow. I would definitely give him a try as long as he’s got good recall and lie down commands .

Cracking dog ❤️. My collie is nearly 2 he is brilliant with everything I say but in some situations when I say lie down he just stares at me and it's takes him like 2 minutes to lie down it's like slow motion. Just wondering if you have had anything like that with the collie's you've had. Dno if it's a not listening thing or like focusing on me holding the ball as he is hyper focused when there is a ball around lol 😂

Border collies. Need a job of work or they go doo lally. Ive had a few, as pets, and they all end up in trouble w dog ranger for chasing cats in the hood. Presently i have a pup from my last collie, hes bearded collie boarder cross. Such a better mix for a house dog. Lazy. Lol
just curious… why is Archie still intact? I’m guessing he won’t be used for breeding and is surrounded by lots of relatives.
