When the M’s acquired Polanco, he had 18.2% strikeout rate across 832 games. He joined the M’s and had one of his worst strikeout rates in his career. Julio is regressing in his 3rd year. The M’s have ruined good batters and the M’s are developing a bad reputation for batting for the last 3 years (Frazier, Winker, La Stella, Wong, Garver and Polanco). The common thread has been Jarrett DeHart, the M’s Director of Hitting Strategy over the last 2.5 seasons and 7 years in M’s org in hitting strategy. Jarret DeHart started from college at 22 years old for M’s and has never played professional baseball. His inexperience has to be questioned as well as his resume of work. I would trust Edgar Martinez over Jarret DeHart as a Director of Hitting strategy. Jarret had no answers for these veteran batters for the last 2.5 seasons. It is telling when 2024 Allstar Teoscar Hernandez had a parting shot at the M’s without elaborating. I have no confidence that any acquired bats will fare any better under DeHart’s umbrella.

THANK YOU for this video. I’m so sick of hearing people make excuses for Julio by using his age or by saying “well you keep forgetting that July and August are his best months.” The dude can’t show up for 2 months of every season. I have no idea why he changed his stance in the offseason but it hasn’t worked. He has terrible plate discipline and hits the ball on the ground entirely too much.
And in general, the Mariners offense consistently misses fastballs in the zone. They are TERRIBLE and he’s the main reason why.

Don’t you think Julio would keep progressing if he didn’t get that huge contract

Gunnar and Bobby Witt make the game look so easy. Reminds me of myself back in the day.

The bitter irony in all this is that Julio was supposed to be this team's centerpiece for years, but if things continue the way they have this contract will be a huge obstacle for this organization. I'm honestly surprised no one has told Julio to just start taking until he has a strike, it seems that a big reason he's not hitting this year is because he's constantly behind in the count. It really annoys me reading about how him and his hitting coach have been working on various mechanical adjustments, when in reality so much of his struggles are caused by terrible plate discipline.

Maybe Julio should fire his private hitting coach. With him holding his bat straight up it seems to force him to swing in an downward angle, which causes lots of ground balls.

I believe julio is having issues outside of baseball. Probably relationship issues. Unfortunately it can be a big distraction depending on the situation.

This is the worst team I have ever seen. If you all, don't think it's time to move on from this manager. And
Front office This team has completely stopped playing in competing For this organization.
I don't want to see Thai , france or polanco get rid of the whole Right side of the infield let bliss play and locklear I would rather see rookies struggle.
Than watch these pathetic, veterans look like they've never swung. A bat before in their life.

It’s not that Julio isn’t capable of being a dominant player in league. As fans we’ve seen him be the best player in
MLB for small stretches. He is just not consistent like the rest of the big dawgs in league. Since Julio has been with the Ms injuries seem to rack up around the month of July into August for the dude as well. If he is not going to be consistent, Julio at best needs to be available. Gets paid too much not to.
