      This is a great video, Ford has an updated kit With a Teflon coated bushing, al8z-3b414-b . I borrowed the blind hole puller from AutoZone number 27128, and the bearing and seal driver kit from O’Reillys 67034. The job took an hour and a half and so far so good no leaks.

      @jhefetz Před 3 lety

      @@shaunortman8544 hey shaun how did you achieve pulling the bearing with the blind hole puller? auto zone doesnt' supply that loaner tool anymore so I got the harbor freight one. but since theres no backing on the bearing I don't know where to seat the puller... spreading the puller seems to just force the bearing tighter inside.

    Mr. FordTechMakuloco, I want to say thank you for your expertise. I completed the removal and replacement of the CV AXLE bushing on my 2006 Ford Escape. You were right on the money about the time it would take to get that round little suckered out of the housing. Of course, you are faster than I am. I can't express my gratitude in thanking you. I did it exactly how you outline the whole procedure. The check is in the mail. Thank you so very much for your dedication to help the DIY'ERS!

    Thanks for this video! It took less than an hour to fix mine. Used a small drift punch (tip filed at a slight angle, maybe 15°) to cut two slots in the old bushing and peeled it out of there in just a few minutes with a sharp-tipped pry bar. Getting the new bushing in was a little bit of a challenge because I didn't want to cock it, which of course I did the first time. Used a little emery cloth to curve the edge of the bushing bore to make the insertion easier and went in clean and smooth. Picked up the bushing from Cobra in FL.

      Do u think a slide hammer would work

    • @JerewB
      @JerewB Před 2 lety

      @@freethinker7805 the problem is that the bushing sits flat in the bore at the back, so there's nothing to grab to remove the bushing with a slide hammer. on the other hand, installing the bushing with a slide hammer might be possible, maybe even easier to keep it straight, but i couldn't justify the expense unless you have that tool already. a 16 oz hammer and a socket is all i used.

    The CV axle broke on my wife's 03 escape, replaced the axle but it never felt like it seated no matter what I did. I put it all back together and drove it down the road and back, tore it back down and checked to see if CV axle was seated and it seemed to be. I put it back together and seemed fine. I drove it up on a block so I would have clearance to change the motor oil and trans fluid started pouring out from the seal where the shaft goes in. I backed it off and pulled it back up and no more leak... Drove it a few more miles, including an off-road Hill climb, brought it home and parked it overnight. I got in it this morning to check the trans fluid and it had leaked some overnight in the driveway... Seems that if the axle is in a bind it leaks. Would you think that the seal and bushing is damaged and needs to be replaced too?

    I have a 2010 Fusion with a g6m manual transmission. The transmission seal was leaking on the drivers side cv shaft. The repair shaft replaced the seal but said there was a pretty good groove on another part, not the cv shaft. I am thinking they were talking about the bushing now. Is the bushing put in the raceway that is inside a bearing? Is that why the bushing is put in place with loctite? Does the G5M-R 5 speed manual transmission have a similar setup? The seal look different. Does the standard/manual transmission use the same bushing? Sorry for all the questions, there is not much out there on the 5 speed trans.

    I have a 2006 Escape XLT 2.3L and have read differing views on replacing the whole axle. Some say you have to remove the transmission but this video makes me think you can replace it and the bushing without doing that. Is that correct? And is there an end to end video on replacing the driver's side CV axle?

    you ever think of putting the bushing in the freezer first? To shrink the molecules. we used to do it years ago when putting new sleeves in an engine

    I think this is what happened to my 05 escape. I just pulled the knuckle along with the axle out and the bushing it's just hanging on the axle shaft.
