    That entrance was akin to a rockstar returning home from a world tour. Matt truly is a rockstar to the millions of kids who watched, and continue to watch, Horrible Histories. He’s their childhood, their earliest memories, their cool uncle on the telly who told them that learning can be fun. What a night for these students ❤

    It's so healthy how Matt thinks of British history. British kids should absolutely be taught about the horrors of the British history in the same way that German kids are taught about the horrors of their country's history. It's such a shame that those in charge of education lack that shame and empathy.

    • @hardlines5472

      I don't think they do. Japan definitely doesn't teach the kids about the horrors of Japans genocide in China or barbarous treatment of occupied countries and the prisoners of war.

    I'm an American fan...I was crying over the gentle , intelligent , talented man he is... I am dyslexic ,and was in first grade in 1968... school was embarrassing, and confusing to me. I have a normal/high IQ , but book learning was not my strong point. Learned so very much from Horrible History. Not just children were taught , and I bet I'm not the only adult who learned !!! Thank you ever so much for all you have done .

      You are so right there American fan, I watched some Horrible Histories when my Son was younger but I was usually sorting tea (meal not drink) out, but now he's grown up, I now have watched series 1-5 ( the collective 'Them There the 6 Idiots with our beloved Matt Baynton and the crew) on repeat and Ghosts (UK), Bill etc so many times, I join in with the songs and actions and I am not ashamed to say I am nearly 50! What they did for re-engaging kids into History is phenomanal and I hope they will always look back on their careers now or in years to come and feel proud of that achievement as they should be. 😊❤

    He is spot on about national shame and remembering the appalling crimes of the past. In Germany, for instance, they make a point of teaching about the Holocaust and being a public Holocaust denier is illegal. So Boris Johnson and Liz Truss are wrong about "moving past our shame," just like Canadians must never forget about what was done to First Nations children for 150 years in Residential Schools. It becomes part of the national conscience. To remind us never to go down those roads again. Thank you, Mathew

    What a wondeful interview!! I thoroughly enjoyed this and Matt was superb with his answers. I'm in my 60's from America and I LOVE Horrible Histories, Ghosts and the movie 'Bill'; I couldn't get Yonderland but I'm still searching for it so one of these days I might yet get to watch it. :-) I have watched Horrible Histories series literally dozens of times, I've learned a lot, and I still laugh and sing along to the songs. I understand Ghosts will have it's final season in season 5 and I am so sad to see it ending. I hope the 6 Idiots continue to work and collaborate on another show, they're such a brilliantly talented team. At this point I would watch anything they perform, they're all just that good. Thank you so much for brightening the days of so many people around the world!

      As a retired history teacher, it was the fact that Horrible Histories made the horrible bits examined parts of British History for the first time in British schools. Before them, (and me, using the books , that inspired the TV series, in my classes for at least four years before the first TV series aired) that made it Ok to discuss the toilet habits of the Tudors, or the reason that black people were so important to the growth of Bristol as well as North and South Carolina! Love the whole Horrible Histories (Britain) team, and Mat in particular!

  • @justacommenter
    @justacommenter Před rokem +7

    On the point of doing accents, I think it's probably okay if the accent itself is accurate and not a mockery of the culture or ethnicity? Also, I agree that the casting ought to reflect the diversity of the cultures represented in a show like Horrible Histories, but I also think that in sketch comedy there is an exception to having to stick to your own playing type. Sketch troupes work better with a tight-knit group who play heightened characters in every sketch, and sometimes in that context it's alright for someone to play the opposite sex or someone from a different country, as long as it's self-aware and socially conscientious about how they represent that.

    So sweet ,thoughtful, and intelligent,I would really love if people like him became superstars although he would propably hate it. But I think it would be really healthy for many kids. maybe there would be more entertainment in the spirit of horrible histories and less with absolutly no other point than laughing and pointing fingers at people who either genuinly hope to be stars or maybe just settle with being notorious for behaving bad enough on screen to be interesting for 2 minutes in the tabloids.

    Honestly lovely comments about the show, but highlight the issue with CBBC closing down their channel for online-only platforms in a few years. Lockdowns highlighted the Digital Divide, and even CITV had to close their educational programming when fast food advertising stopped in the 2000s. Such a shame that many generations will lose that chance of having easy access to safe and high quality programming.

    Comedy from the past is funny and not funny as modern is comedy, things can be funny but offensive. I find a lot of BBC comedy boring but there is really good stuff about. There is an element of nostalgia with comedy from the past where attitudes were different and the things that were relevant are different.
