- Octopus perched on cliff walls. Rockfish reclined in glass sponges. Flapjack octopus flopped into the sediment. Clouds of krill chased by rockfish--and even sea stars! Surveying the seafloor of the Point Arena region of Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary revealed both known and new species interactions in this extreme ecosystem located offshore San Francisco. 2:50 I was thinking.."mh...I have seen shrimps like these in the market and they look delicious...oh no...this sounds kind of disrespectful..."
2:56 "They look delicious."
i suspect they taste somewhat of ammonia. yum!
@@stuharris8948 Laser to the eye! 0:41
Humans can have a balance of equilibrium with nature... that can include eating it...
“Dude, personal space.” Spectacular commentary!
4:29 "I was hoping for a predation event"
Mee too bro
Seeing so many sunflower stars brings me hope! As a scuba diver, I saw the effects of sea star wasting disease hit the pacific northwest coast (USA) and haven't seen a sunflower star larger than my hand since. To know that there are still healthy looking populations of more deepwater species means that even if the local species don't recover that maybe someday some other sunflower stars will show up.
5:30 that crab has seen things...
Cue Samuel Barber - Adagio for strings.
The limbs he's lost. The friends he's lost. Won't stop hurting. It's like they're all still there.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@kuckoo9036 he's saying "get me out of here.."
“After the war, Krabs stayed secluded in a deep depression that seemed endless.”
I laughed so hard at the "camera happy fish".
This channel is a blessing.
That camera happy fish be like get out of the way , imma pose like a fish diva .
😂

I'm just going to watch a couple of the Nautilus videos ... gotta get up early in the morning ...
Hours later: okay, just one more ...
Just the best thing on the internet.
I love this!
3:51 dude, personal space
"they look delicious" 😂😂
Its all that talk about pancakes earlier, someone feed these scientists before they go hungry
man said "i was hoping for a predation event." intelligent, yet savage. all bull aside, these shots were incredible. never a dull moment with Nautilus Live.
*fun joyful exclamations about the fish*
"I was really hoping for a predation event"
The ocean is such an expansive space how on earth are so many creatures crashing into spikier, spiny creatures? I dunno...reminds me a bit of humans driving whilst texting
So cool. I love this channel!!
😅😅 the camera hog fish even got my cats attention when it swooped in. Great footage of some underwater beauties. Ty!! 👍
I love octopuses. They're amazing and so smart.
Sandra Buechner I have such a new respect for them
Me too! Whales and octopus are my favorite sea creatures
Can you would you please depict coordinates as well as depth? Thanks for all this joy... "never too many rockfish"
Coordinates ... you don't give out secret fishing spots! 😂
1:58 I’m gonna reverse outta here real stealth like...no ink just disappear. Big scary light machine wants to eat me.
Could you give us some information regarding the environment, such as depth, temperature, pressure, etc. Thanks for the amazing videos!!
No they only roast the animals call them cute or delicious
they have depth on there and i assume that if you type the depths into google then you can get the other info you want from just that
What a great year of exploration. Thank you, Dr. Robert Ballard for making this possible. Patiently waiting for next year.
Thank you for posting these videos. I am astounded, blown away and awe-struck by these animals.
Wow 😮 nice variety guys👍🐟
I so enjoy listening to y'all banter about! Watching these beautiful fish and sea environments makes me happy! Thanks for posting these videos.
Ive never had so much fun learning anything. Thank you once again.
Thank you!!! I love it when I hear ‘ wonder what that is’
Marvellous...!!!!!! Thanks Nautilus !!!!....¡¡¡ Felicitaciones por su trabajo ..¡¡¡¡.Un abrazo a todo el equipo.....!!!!!
Thanku all for sharing this hidden world with all of us. I luv the commentaries🤣. I don't dive anymore for now, but just luv the contact that your videos give. 👍
Cool videos. I think they should translate feet and pounds to meters and kilos and put that in subtitles.
Amazing work!
beautiful footage! it's amazing what lurks below.
These videos are so cool

Très belles images, d'une grande pureté.
What an incredible job. Scientists are awesome!
Always interested in new videos for me to nerd out to.🤓
Brilliant
Very cool
That first glass sponge looked like a Tuba!
Would like hour or longer clips of the same dive in one video... i enjoy the continuation and not all of us have short attention spans

1:00 That's Toothless of the under world. 😂
Love it
the shear amount of life in the deep is astonishing to say the least. i would love to go really deep and see the lake under the sea made from brine.
longer videos pleeeeeeeease
I so wish I had gotten into Marine biology... Seems like the best career ever 🐙🐙

That crab has seen James Charles
Wah
4:25 I saw a chimera shadow on the sea floor as you were looking at another fish. I believe they call them ghost fish
does anyone know the scale of the lasers off-hand? I thought I read 1cm somehwere but I would like confirmation
Wow
watching this while eating shrimp scampi. such tasty creatures.
How wide is the separation of the lasers?
Those shrimp look so delicious, I totally sympathize!
This video made me hungry.
I wish I could do this..
I forgot what is the distance between the lasers?
wow
is there a plastic bag floating on 0:20 - top of screen?
There are probably much bigger octopus than the ones you mentioned. There are some pretty convincing accounts from oil rig divers and fishermen.
🐙 What are those green lasers used for? Are they for measurements or for letting the scientist know exactly where they want the cameras aiming.
According to a scuba diving video, the color red is unseen by most creatures in the ocean. The usage of red is supposed to hide animal as if they were wearing a camouflage pattern or almost equivalent to wearing black or something dark. After seeing many videos about deep sea marine life that also shows many red color animals, can someone prove this idea?
Yes. Most deep sea animals can't see red because red light usually never gets there in the first place (it's the first colour of the spectrum to be "filtered out" by the water, the deeper you go). So if you're red you'll mostly reflect red light and since red light isn't available down there you'll just appear like you're not there at all. Especially to predators that can't even see red.
Fun fact: Dragonfish are one of the few deep sea animals that _can_ see red light and they even produce red light to hunt. So while they can see their prey, it can't see them because it can't see red light.
That's a lot of "see" and "red" in so few sentences😅
And I hope my explanation was correct😅
@@Tymdek The dragonfish, interesting. Now that got me thinking of a host of other animals that can see red for advantage.
@@--Paws-- There could very well be...That's just the one I happen to know about xD
Maybe I'll get to work with them one day, if I made it through uni.
_Paws_ same. Fascinating.
I kinda like how the krill just look like little transparent blobs with 2 large black eyes.
Is it typical to see krill swarming in such numbers at those depths? I've never seen anything like that on this channel before.
The krill’s eyes are so big you can see them
I have to agree there is never Too Many Rockfish...
Feeding frenzy when the reefs turned over
I like seeing my food in the wild
What's the distance between the two laser points?
10cm I believe.
❤
is there a place stills are put for desktop wallpapers???

No one gonna talk about how they casually mentioned the armspan of the giant pacific octopus could (theoretically) reach 30 feet?
God what I would do to work with this team ❤️ 😂
This was 3 years ago, the Canadian press just said this is the first elñiño in 7 years..lol
The dog or cod fish looked to be protecting the star fish
2:55 I immediately thought about aliens in their ship looking at humans and saying "they look delicious". yikes!
Kids!!! Get in the damn house! There is a krill storm coming!
1:07 Jeanjacket caught on camera years before Nope
@0:55 A g-g-g-g-ghost!
they totally missed the octopus in the beginning
This video is a mix of clips so it's possible the octopus shown later is the one on the rock from the beginning. If it's not, that's a pretty big miss as the first octopus was showing as really bright, almost blue, against the dark rocky background.
What is that clear thing at 0:21
plastic bag

KRILL STORM AT 1700 METERS
ITS A SHRIMP GARDEN PARTY!
0:41 I think that one is blind on one eye now! Please be more careful with your lasers! Why do you have them on all the time?
People getting upset that the scientists are being "insulting" need to relax; none of the commentary was rude and the animals aren't complaining. There is plenty of scientific information on this channel so you're not lacking in educational content. Lighten up.
“Hoping for a predation event”? What kind of animal are you?!?
They look delicious to the shrimp she high lol!
