- Some of the (in my opinion) best artwork concerning the "Quenta Silmarillion" by J.R.R. Tolkien, chronologically according to the story and with quotes from the Text that fit the images. Any questions, feel free to ask.
Music (in chronological order):
1: Namarië; sung by a certain Miriam Peirone (CZcams)
2: Dead Can Dance: The Host of Seraphim
3: Dead Can Dance: Saltarello
4: Lucio Godoy: Orestes' Offering (Agora soundtrack)
5: Dead Can Dance: Summoning of the Muse
6: Wardruna: Jara
7: Dead Can Dance: The Host of Seraphim (again)
8: Howard Shore: The Passing of the Elves (Lord of the Rings: the complete recordings; I think, it is a different version than the one they use in the film
9: Broceliande: The Lay of Nimrodel (the opening notes on the flute)
Artists: (among others): Alan Lee, Ted Nasmith, Anke Eissmann, Karina Chmiel,... - Krátké a kreslené filmy
I visit this youtube page whenever I get anxious and depressed about how I lost my copy of the Silmarillion. because these pictures are just out of this world. they're so beautiful it almost makes me want to cry. The Silmarillion is one of the most beautiful fictional stories ever conjured up by mankind, like holy shit, fucking incredible book
Can't you get another copy....? Just sayin'....
Thank you for the nice comment! Btw, you should really buy a new copy; I would recommend the 2004 hardback edition illustrated by Ted Nasmith ;)
Yeah, as far as fact fantasy fiction goes its even better than the Bible.
beautiful first song! really liked it
You made a damn good job !! Thanks for sharing!!!
Nice! Some pictures are brand new to me! Cool music too! Love the book!
shadowdance4666 I.
The world of those who knows, who remember...is ready to see, is waiting...
Wait what????
Great video, awesome artwork you chose. Good job picking out sections of text as well. In a few years...whenever someone makes_The Silmarillion_ movie, I predict this video will have over a million views by the time the movie is released.
The Simarillion
this needs to be a movie
Dave Fischer It would be no more exciting a movie than the Bible.
This video is great. You've really captured the atmosphere and mood I feel when I read the books :)
Would you mind adding more info about the music to the description? Especially the track that begins at 2.36.
Nvm, I found it ;)
Thelargir Saltarello by Dead Can Dance ;) Sorry I overlooked your question before; but you know now. Cheers
No problem ;)
but this youtube slideshow thing combined with some really organic and middle-earth sounding type music is a great comfort for people like me who don't have a copy of the book itself.
Love the inclusion of the Wardruna song; very fitting :)
Thanks; I also made a couple of Wardruna videos (one is to my amazement very popular with almost 300.000 views).

The Vikings TV show one? Love that! Subscribed :)
thanks! spent 2 days (when I had nothing else to do) on it :p
From my very first reading of The Silmarillion I always felt it had a "biblical" feel...almost an innate authenticity.....I've often wondered, are the tales told by Tolkien, his exhaustive writings of Elven language & the grand mythology (so reminiscent of lost Atlantis) all just a grand work of fiction? or is it the revelation of a lost, forgotten and/or hidden history?....perhaps his work's amazing popularity is because it strikes a deep cord in our collective memory & subconscious....perhaps
I think this is good work.
"Ulmo es el Señor de las Aguas. Està solo. No habita mucho tiempo en ninguna parte, sino que se traslada a su antojo por las aguas profundas alrededor de la Tierra o debajo de la Tierra..."(El Silmarillion).
I Think Every Single Book By Tolkien Should Be Either Turned Into A Film Movie Or Cartoon Or Both!
Tolkien inspires new creation.
Geez, what's with the winged balrogs with horns? The book said that the balrog had a HELMET, and FELL TO HIS DEATH!
Sounds huimanoid to me.
I have the same feeling about it ;)
@TeDuaMalakie Sorry :) The gothic font is on purpose because the Silmarillion is a bit biblical and it had to be difficult to read. Its just a sentence from the book that relates to the following picture. Maybe I'll make a version with easier to read font in the future.
Its basically a religion at this point.
Alan Lee and John Howe are very famous for painting LOTR, but not for The Silmarillion. I think one or two of the paintings are by them, although.
What was the song at the start? it was nice.
It's Tolkien's poem "Namárië" from The Fellowship of the Ring, sung by a certain Miriam Peirone. It's on CZcams somewhere. It's about Valinor and the sorrow of the Elves that left the Undying Lands.
Cheers Thanks.
Very well done (including the soundtrack).
Just curious as to why there are none of the paintings by Alan Lee or John Howe.
So are they going to start making this movie.
Yes so wait 10 years peter jackson is confirmed will direct silmarilion
if I were melkor. I would burnt fingolfin from far away distance... (Vala with an unlimited knowledge but still be a fool) (what on earth did Eru think when he made melkor ? ) 😑 I really feel sorry for Melkor...
eh…the Valar don’t have unlimited knowledge, or indeed unlimited anything (there is stuff they straight up can’t do). There is a lot they don’t know (like how elves and humans think, for example: see the Númenor fiasco) and Melkor was never the smart one in the group. Sauron is actually a lot smarter than Melkor, but ironically just stupid enough not to truly value his own talents. And yes, you should feel sorry for Melkor: or rather feel sorry that he chose to go evil. He could have made so many good things if he hadn’t been so intent on destroying the work the others were doing. Eru gave him a share in the powers of all the others, that he might unify them and blend them. Instead he chose to make discord, to tear down rather than build up. Like a toddler who won’t share the sandbox, but with angel powers.
I especially like the watercolor paintings. Do you know who the artist is?
eikoslamiad I needed to search for my map with the downloaded pictures, but the artists of the watercolour paintings are Anke Eissmann and Karina Chmiel (I'm not sure if that's all of them). There's also Ted Nasmith and Alan Lee ofcourse, but the lesser known artists are just as good I think. :)
Yannick20 Thanks. Just had a look at their galleries - great stuff. I like Jenny Dolfen's Tolkien watercolors a lot. Check out her "Oath of Feanor" for example: goldseven.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/wp_oathoffeanor_fin2.jpg
eikoslamiad Looks nice, yes. Thanks. :)
Hey could someone please tell me the names of all the pieces of music in this? Would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)
1: Namarië; sung by a certain Miriam Peirone (CZcams)
2: Dead Can Dance: The Host of Seraphim
3: Dead Can Dance: Saltarello
4: Lucio Godoy: Orestes' Offering (Agora soundtrack)

9: Broceliande: The Lay of Nimrodel (the opening notes on the flute)
Yannick20 Thanks! :)
wait... so the elf fought each other because believed in a fool gossips that Morgoth's made, seriously... they need Mobile phone to confirm each other... and Angband... it sounds like the eldar attacked it more than just Morgoth went outside. they dead in despair not bcz morgoth... 😑 dragons are cute ( I read eragon) but tolkien made them bad... and glaurung... it's just too easy to slay... and sirmaril... I knew its canon power... but... I think melkor was the manifestation of power itself. he had every power of his brethern... unlimited knowledge... and mightiest... (but he still be stupid, if he doesn't spent alots of his power over middle earth... I swear he would beat tulkas easily af) paradox everywhereee...
Is that elfic?
