The new updates for anyone on FireOS 8 and above means that apps like Mouse Toggle will no loner work. Amazon have blocked the use of ADB on the new Amazon Firesticks, including the 4K max.
This is not good news for fans of the Firestick who like to Jailbreak the Amazon Firestick or install third party apps.

Yes I am switching to Nvidia shield as soon as I can. It was better already than the fire stick to start with. Don't need a OTG cable. To add more storage. Don't need one to hardwire to network. All around is just a better box. A lot bigger but still.. and since there's no ways to sideload the Roku. That's probably going to have taken over anyways.

I stopped using my fire stick when they forced ads before prime movies. I already pay for prime, I shouldn't have to pay more for Amazon to not show me ads. They're trying to get paid twice, once by me and a second time by forcing ads onto me. So at this point, I'm paying just for two day shipping. I don't need to watch prime. I will use it to see what I want to see and then find it on the internet so I don't have to watch their ads.

i have prime. I used to watch some show on prime video but now i use Plex to watch prime video content on my tv without ads. I dont feel bad because i already pay for the service but i refuse to pay extra $ to remove ads.
I finally had it with companies trying to mess with a product that I paid for. I had three Firesticks in use in my house and I disconnected all three. I replaced two with the G1 android box, which I am very happy with, and will put one on my third tv soon. I am sick of companies blocking what I have a right to do. Roko is just as bad. They are bricking your Roku if you do not accept their arbitration rules. Can you believe that? These companies think that that they own you and what they sell you.......I won't even buy a piece of clothing that has a companies name on it for everyone to see. I'm not their walking FREE billboard. As long as people continue to accept these kinds of abuses, they will keep abusing you. BELIEVE IT!

I'm an Nvidia Shield man myself. I have two different models...but I've seen what Amazon have been doing with their recent updates and killing off the mouse toggle and other apps such as Tech Doctor's stuff...I can see peeps stepping off from their Fire devices....keep up the good work my man.

I've been a Nvidia Shield user since 2015 and still get updates to both my boxes 9 years on. Get rid of your CRAP 💩 Firesticks and buy the Shield. You will NEVER need to buy another box for life and save yourself the hassle from Amazon, which is just going to get worse 😢.
Got rid of my fire sticks in 2018 and got the Nvidia Shield, best advice I can give to anyone with a fire stick!
On my nvidia shield pro it's behaving alot like the firestick it want let me download certain apps because of play protect 😢

There’s another issue that needs to be addressed with ALL products we purchase today. You buy something for its features and capability. Then the company then reaches in at some point and grabs a feature away!!! Why are we permitting this??? We need better laws that protect the product investments we choose. Options or capabilities should never go away!!

Since I currently have four cubes in my home, I decided to get the Walmart Onn box as a backup. Once Amazon totally cuts out the ability to add programs, etc., those boxes will become extremely scarce. Better to be prepared in advance than to wait until there was a rush on them. I have hooked up one so that I could become familiar with it. The rest stay put away until such time as they are necessary. Sadly, I wanted to replace the cube with a Nivida Shield but with other more pressing items needed this is a simple solution for me at this time. I have already cut back on Amazon as I do not like the direction they are taking.
I moved to the MECOOL box 4ram 32rom. The fire stick is still usable. Just add the minimum programs you use. 5 or 6? Then, it's easy to clear the cache and stop all programs. Get a mini keyboard with track pad, and then there is no need for mouse toggle. Hook the keyboard via the 2.4 dongle as the Bluetooth has reconnect every time you want use the keyboard and it's a slower process then the 2.4 dongle. The new MECOOL box is everything Amazon should be.

Depends on one's level of use. If one does not us a launcher or infrequently uses mouse toggle, not a big deal. On the other hand, if one is a developer or a more high tech user, it is a big deal..
I have 2 shields and 1 firestick. If this becomes an issue for me, I will ditch the firestick. I have alternatives which make the decision easy, but think this "corporate greed" within the streaming market is just fricken outrageous! The Netflix, Amazon, and Peacock "pay to not have ads" move just pushes me to support devs who can deliver us "ad free" content! Firesticks move is a dev averse move, much like the Apples OS in my opinion.
I dumped Amazon in every respect. Sold my Cubes. Dumped Amazon prime. Refuse to buy anything from the greedy gits. Android all the way.

A totally customizable android box on which you can install your own wallpaper and launchers. The default is now 4Gb/32Gb ...... use proprietary streaming apps or use some custom apps to watch whatever ..... your choice, not Amazons. I watch U.S TV from E Europe ...... no problem.

At Wal-Mart. A little harder to get for our friends across the pond because of shipping cost, but still cheaper than the firestick at regular price.
This thing works great. I side loaded some apps for movies and the browser apps work 1000× better than the scrappy Amazon silk browser. I used to get so mad at that browser at how slow it was. I'm very happy with this new onn 4 k box, and the price is awesome.
Great video Lee - in your opinion what's the best Google TV dongle/box ..? I have a google tv and its far more polished than Android tv - especially the 'apps only' option. But I want something portable that can play BBC iPlayer, ITVX, CH4, CH5 OD.

Have 4 firesticks in the house - They even screwed the ability to add memory in my older models. Bought an ONN box to see how I'd like it. I'll be using android or Google android boxes from here on out

what is even the point to these box and sticks i mean if you don't have a smart tv i guess i see the point to them but most tv have built in apps and you can also side load on some are least hook up your media to them i am not sure the point maybe i am doing something wrong lol.
I switched to the Walmart Onn 6 months or so and don’t regret it at all.
I still have some FireSticks in the house, but my primary device is the Onn.
i agree the onn 4k box damn best 19.99 i ever spent i have it hooked up to my 4k supported projector and its runs great got the projector under $60.00so for under $82 i have a 1080p 7 ft screen on wall

Hi, I'm new to the channel and recently upgraded to fire stick 4k max. I beginning to wish I'd done a little more homework. As long as my current apps continue to work as normal it can stay connected, but my research for a replacement begins right now. I left Sky because they were taking the piss, and now it looks like Amazon are doing the same.
The Vega system being based off the Linux system similar to roku system is a closed system, just like roku you can enable third party apps- a functionality mainly used by developers, I been working with roku this past year and have managed to add three third party apps for streaming but you have to reload it daily, it has to get the recertification from the App Store/OS system for the app to work, yes With Vega you will be able to jailbreak it to a degree and watch some third party apps to a degree m(will be very few workable apps) and then you will need to do it every single day, it won’t be feasible to jailbreak for other people, would be a pain in the ass to do that daily.

Do you know if the Fire TV Stick can display the Ring Doorbell camera in a PIP? I read that only certain Fire TVs and sticks have that capability.

Been an Apple TV guy for around 6 months now - the fire cube is on another tv which tbh I’m hardly using now. This action doesn’t surprise me & a reason why I decided to go with Apple TV
I have 5 newer FireTV sticks. I have everything I want running fine on them, so I will be waiting for a number of years before I replace them. As of yet, none of the cons are swaying me otherwise.

ADB still works on Fire TV even after all the updates. Not sure why its just the firesticks and not fire tv
It works on my firestick 4k. I just had to re-enable it. That was the same on my 3 other ones. As far as I can tell it wasn't a permanent switch off. It was just disabled by the update ,and I re-enabled it. Simple. Also, because it's based on, albeit a heavily modded version of android I'm sure it's in their contract that there has to be ADB access on any device using that software.
I have heard that Amazon are making their own proprietary operating system for next gen fire TV roducts, and also it may also be getting flashed to the current generation aswell to replace what it's running now. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen.
just bought a Firestick to replace my 5 or 6 year old model which was side-loaded with the Pro live sports app (which recently stopped working) and other streaming apps. Will this new Firestick be a problem for me to side-load the aforementioned apps for streaming?
ADB is not disabled in the USA yet. I have several updates in the past two weeks and there were no interruptions of my programs or installing new apps or using any of the programs you mention.
New app and programs aren't the problem. Try mouse toggle. It won't work.

It enables you to be a developer again, but I have fire TVs so I don’t know if I can do it because I don’t see the things that that you have on the fire stick that’s not on the TV but I’ve asked that gentleman to send me how to do it.

I quit running power to my firestick after the latest update and am now running my Walmart device. I will now watch the video to see how much more Amazon has screwed up

Hi, Lee. My problem is that I have THREE Echo Dot speakers to wirk in conjunction with my FireSticks. Even though 'Alexa' is always a 'passive-aggressive, b*tch-c*nt', I have grown rather dependent on the alarms, timers, TV control, 'Recast' DVR control, and other 'smart-home' type stuff.
Do you know if I can use these speakers somehow with 'Google-TV' devices (Chromecast or ONN 4K box)?
I would hate that money to go to waste as I'm living pretty close to poverty-level. Don't have money to replace them with 'Google Home Mini's'!
I had read back when the first 'Chromecast w/Google-TV' sticks came out, that you could use some 'Alexa' voice commands with them (in addition to their main 'Hey, Google' voice assistant), but don't know how restricted that might be, if it works at all?
I was curious, if basic Android-TV or Google-TV can make use of the Echo speakers. I really can't see throwing them out and trying to resell them is just not worth my while for what little I'd probably get for them. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHATEVER YOU CAN!
*Lastly, you CAN still turn Mouse Toggle on for the OS 6 and OS 7 FireSticks. You just use the 'Remote ADB Shell' app downloaded to your Android phone (not positive about Android OS 14, but anything earlier works for sure) and you can CONNECT to your FireStick's 'IP Address' .... type in some specific commands and the Mouse will work w/the 'double-click' again!
The only issue is, if you need to reboot your device for any reason, you'll need to do the commands again.
This is less inconvenient that you'd think, as 'Remote ADB' app REMEMBERS the commands you input the first time (you just 'long-press' on the command line and the pop-up menu lists them)!
Also, the Mouse Toggle stays active despite your FireStick going into 'Sleep' mode! You only have to do the easy redo steps, if you had to Reboot the stick!
Sounds like many people are unaware of this option. I find it MUCH more convenient than using my bluetooth mini-keyboard/mouse combo (for assorted reasons)!

I used it a lot before and it was my main streaming device but since I have an Apple TV, I stopped using the Firestick. I must have 3 Firesticks at home from normal to max, and I only use 1 to watch content on the computer.
yeah it pissed me off when my mouse toggle stopped working. im going to go get the Onn android box at walmart and be done with Amazon firestick. they have went to far.

Hey I’m new and subscribed to help you good luck. I just bought a Hoowel google tv 55” I’ve been trying to find reviews for it with no luck. Had to get this tv cause of my budget right but i tapped my other tv and bam fell right I’ve and of course it didn’t work after that. So i needed a tv fast. I’m gonna get an LG in a few weeks. I heard there tvs are the best right now. I had a Vizio that’s the one that broke. Didn’t like it very much anyway so I’m kinda glad i broke it 😅 lol
I had 2 Firesticks stopped using them end of Dec/23 , I knew this was coming I'm using Superbox S5 Max and Vseebox V3 Pro , way better no buffing and much faster. They both come with over 1300 North American channels, and loads of movies . I use my vpn and no issues .
Since Amazon enabled the extra adds ($3 mo to get rid of) and enabled the previews that play on the home screen I decided to get rid of Fire TV and all of my Echo devices. This has been in the back of my mind since Amazon got rid of the Fire TV Recast OTA DVR. That was the reason I went with amazon. Most likely going with Apple TV and staying in Apple ecosystem since phones, tablets, and computers are all Apple. Although I might get an Nvidia Shield to play with as well.

Completely agree. Amazon are basically changing the product after you've bought it. Imagine buying a UHD television and after an update a few months later it only has FHD capability. That's effectively what Amazon have done by blocking ADB. I've lost my custom launcher and several other great apps that rely on ADB. If Id known this would happen I would never have bought my Fire stick.

With the new update the only thing that we have had trouble with is that we are not able to turn the tv on/off with the remote on and off button. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Yes, I see the day coming when I'll abandon the Fire stick. If I did it now I'd probably get an Nvidia Shield Pro. Amazons updates sometimes add something good for the user but increasingly are pushing out more crap that isn't. More ads, less ability to control the look, more to block extra apps.

Dumped my 4k max first gen. bout a month ago, Got a ONN 4k box from Walmart and will never look back. It just works and doesn't struggle with Kodi like my 4k max did. $20 for the ONN box $6 for a otg and $8.99 for Kingston 64gb flash drive. Best money I ever spent, it just works. Bye Amazon on to Happy trails and no forced bloat ware you can't uninstall. I encourage everyone to at least try one. Don't like hey take it back to Walmart and exchange it however you won't cuz it's dam nice to have something that works right every time you push the on button!

As I have the second generation fire stick and I've never updated the os even though the updates are available my question is with the new fire sticks and fire cube are the updates automatic and you can't turn them off because if you can turn them off then isn't the simple answer to do so

Walmart stopped selling the onn stick. Imho the onn stick was a POS, worse than a firestick. Way to restrictive.

I wouldn't recommend shield mate, too over priced. I need to do some testing first. Pros and cons with all. Big one is license for netflix and processing power. Let me get testing first before recommending brother

I have several.firesticks. No idea on whatbyoubare referring too, nevervused any of that, and firestick works fine for every app on it i need, never an issue. Never heard of the ones you are referring too at all, and not blocking anything farcas i can tell. Same now as it was years ago.

Sir I must agree Amazon really gave a blow below the proverbial belt. Once the product is in the consumers' possession people have the right to customize their own property. You dont see GM going after their consumers if they customize their product. To change the program for those that have bought firesticks is wrong! Sure if this change was implemented to new users and they are aware of the situation thats fair. At least people can move on before purchasing firetv devices. It seems very unjust and misleading. I think I will go android after using cubes for over 5 years.

Just picked up a onn 4K pro from Wally world. To replace my fire stick.
I have been heavily vested in amazon fire devices for some time now. Currently i have 4 fire tvs, 5 firesticks, fire recast, and have had no real problems in the past. I also have a couple roku tvs, that i dont care for, a Nvidia shield , 2 regular chromecast with google tv, and a brand new tv with google chromecast with google tv. All that being said i have not cared for the fire os for the last couple years. The main advantage it had was it was stable, easy to use and lots of video content on how to use and manipulate the devices. It was great to set up for friends and family and not have to do much else. With the google system becoming better i am going that route as amazon will be useless to customize very soon. I understand its a business but the greed will bite them in the ass, as more people go away with the new release coming soon. I believe amazon thinks the sheep will follow but the cord cutting world keeps growing and they are going the entire wrong direction. The Onn streming devices and google stuff have a great os and more content creators are pushing for these systems so i believe this trend will go that way and make those companies the money. In conclussion Amazon is now Dogshit, and buy an android or google device.
I have never used a fire device myself but I think it's more than just greed. There was an article on Torrent Freak a few months ago that said that some content owners are considering suing Amazon unless they lock their devices down. The content providers want people to pay for the content rather than getting it for free like you can do with the Firestick's sideloading capability.

If you were able to install TDUK"s update blocker or another update blocker before these latest Amazon Firestick updates were pushed out then you are one of the lucky ones.
