I farmed part of my life and I worked for the Federal Government part of my life. The amount of freedom of expression the self-employed farmers exhibit in public places like bars and cafe's and online is amazing. And the amount of restriction you have when you are a federal employee with knowledge of a lot of personal information is also amazing. Perhaps farmers experience some of the freedom you are talking about in retirement, but they experience that freedom their whole working career. But sadly sometimes they abuse it too. They start calling people idiotic, stupid or ignorant without hesitation when they think it is appropriate. But, then.......sometimes, non-farmers do that too.

Totally agree. It's liberating. I can say absolutely anything I want.

I'm a Civil Servant in California Education... Low level [K-8 Head Custodian]... There are Federal & State Statutes that GAG Public Employees... As a Union Local Officer, there are more Federal Restrictions on my Conduct & what I may Disclose. Even in Retirement [102 Calendar Days to go] a great deal of these Restrictions Continue. The freedom to express my opinions is one of the most important things I gain in Retirement.

The current system is very fragile. It’s a gross era, it will end soon, everyone knows it.

What a boring world it would be if we all agreed on everything. That said, I don’t agree with everything you say. But I respect you financial insight.

I just had an unexpected 2 months off…. I hated my job but I am going crazy not knowing what to do with myself. I thought I wanted to retire so bad… but am going back to work … in the next two years I need to figure out what to do when in retirement when it comes …

It's different though...when you are in a job & then it stops, or you have some unexpected time off, you are still in the job mind set. You do not feel free to start new ventures, new routines. You are thinking about getting back to work. When you actually retire & know you're not going back you think differently. You know you need to find, or return to, some hobbies, volunteer work, or whatever. But yeah, you have to figure that out.

As long as the post isn't a lie I don't see a problem with it. It does happen. A shame it does happen. I work for a County here in FL. and I just can't say anything negative about my employer (County). It doesn't bother me too much. I'm probably better off not saying things about what my employer does or doesn't do. After I retire though.... heh heh

Be careful the I.R.S. can start messing with you. I got a letter saying they are holding my return until I can Identify myself. I have tried ten ways to Sunday to ID. myself and nothing has been satisfactory for The I.R.S. I guess they can keep my money.

Get a tax lawyer, I have even heard of cases where the IRS found a mistake on their end and gave a refund.

I love me some cancel culture. A few years back a coworker gave me a Yeti cooler because the company did something he disagreed with, I don't remember what they did but the coworker probably doesn't remember either.
