- Ignaz Jakob Holzbauer (18 September 1711 - 7 April 1783) was a composer of symphonies, concertos, operas, and chamber music, and a member of the Mannheim school. His aesthetic style is in line with that of the Sturm und Drang "movement" of German art and literature.
Work: Missa in C-major (c. 1770) scored for soli, chorus, strings, 2 flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, trumpets & timpani.

This is a work I have kept coming back to for years. Despite being unknown, there is a majestic quality to this mass, it is truly a work of genius.
Holzbauer has written in every genre which was known at the time; symphonic music, concerti, chamber music, opera and apparently also church music.
I didnt know my ancestors had such a profound influence!
Mozart sounds like Holzbauer - an underrated genius => we ought to perform more his music

Mozart's sacred music is indeed similar to Holzbauer's, especially Mozart's own C-major Mass, the Coronation.

Pourquoi ce compositeur génial est-il inconnu ? S'il n'y avait son nom, j'aurais cru entendre du Haendel ! Je n'ai trouvé ce nom que parce qu'il est cité par Georges Sand dans son roman Consuelo. Quelle culture avait donc cette romancière qu'on ne connait que par ses petits romans à succès !

Certamente, o clássico brasileiro, erroneamente tido como barroco, teve acesso a partituras europeias, afinal Portugal era familiarizado com S novidades dos concertos espirituais em Paris, onde se apresentavam músicos desde Praga, Mannheim, Viena, Lisboa.

Esse estilo de Mannheim é o clássico, perfeito, colorido, exuberante! Mozart teve um encantamento desde menino pela música de Holzbauer.
