- This is an excellent 1970s Express Lift at the JR Hospital in Oxford!
It’s a very heavy duty model with a very large capacity, using 2:1 cabling with a low travel speed.
The door operator featured in this Express lift is very unusual. Completely different to the usual type which is found on Express lifts.
⛔️⚠️
It's important to mention the many dangers which are present in lift motor rooms.
They are not environments for the inexperienced, and one mistake could be the last thing you do.
There are exposed terminals with voltages of up to 415 volts. If you touch them, they WILL kill you.
Please do not put yourself into this dangerous environment without proper authorisation.

Just epic and that motor sounds sooo good
Great little find
Completely EPIC.
I'm surprised that it relies on relay logic. I'm used to seeing tiny boards with ttl logic ics or later with microprocessors that send low power signals to switch on relays that close massive contacters which are only used for the high power stuff.
lift tracker, I was so close into getting the main lifts motor room and LIFT P but sadly all where locked, all I need is a lockpick haha!
Ah, that’s a shame. The motor room for the main lifts would be very interesting to see!
To be honest, when I got in this motor room I was just lucky to find it unlocked! I think there were workers on the roof somewhere, and you have to go through the motor room to get to it.
If you ever do manage to find one unlocked, just be careful not to touch anything of course!
:-)
I wonder what route you took, I kept looking everywhere
Amazing find!
Heavy duty Express? Never heard of that! And I haven't even found an Express yet GRRRRRRRRRR lol! 4:04 the motor sounds like an old laundrette washing machine lol!
Great video! Are these lifts due to be modernised soon? I'm going to visit a friend in Oxford in a few months' time and would like to check them out.
Thanks! There have been quite a few lift modernisations being done around the hospital in the last couple of years. Pretty much just in the main buildings though. These ones are round the back of the hospital in the educational part and I don’t expect them to be modernised any time soon.
There’s three 70s ones. Two of which are large slow ones, and the other is a smaller and faster one.
And there’s a couple in the main part of the hospital which were refurbished by Express in the late 90s.
There used to be a few extra, but were recently modernised.
@@Lift.Tracker Great, thanks! I had heard that some were modernised within the last year so it is good to hear that the rest might still stick around for a while.
Lift tracker, do you know any old lift areas near oxford? Not JR hospital.
Sorry, I don’t really know Oxford too well. Only old lifts I know of are these I’m afraid!
wonder how you got up there? lift p might be modernized soon
Lift P is the smaller one isn’t it?
@@Lift.Tracker yep, there was an out of service sign and the doors are half open
@@lucasthings Ah that’s a shame. :-/
Hopefully they fix it!
They fixed the Apollo lift in the women's center but no voice..
Did you get permission to enter the motor room??
