- ➪ DIY small fishing boat modifications on my 12ft Jon Boat include a removable fishing casting deck, a storage compartment hatch door with front and rear swivel seats. Simple upgrades to this Pelican Intruder almost turns this into a basic Bass boat! These build mods and ideas help with stability and makes trolling more comfortable while out on the water. This was my first attempt at a boat mod and plan to add more as I go.

This one is a keeper ❤fishing buddy
Thanks! 🎣
The next small project will be a removable blind!
Awesome video, thnx for sharin it with us. It was awesome seeing a woman usin power tools n building her own stuff
Thank you so much!
I also like how you use your tools so effectively
I try!
Great job on boat and video. I'm going to get a pelican soon.
Thank you! Will you be modifying your boat as well?
Not sure how you figured that out but….incredible!!
Thanks 😊
Awesome job! I’m about to get the same boat for me and my son to fish on and can’t wait to get started!
Thank you! Have a great time fishing together. This boat does the job. What mods are you thinking of doing?
@@lauracoteDIYThis is my first Do It Yourself boat modification by a woman totally! I'm impressed! And of course there's millions of Do It Yourself videos by women, But it's my first seeing a boat
she's a go getter. Nice job! I have the same boat. Haven't used it yet.
thanks! Just took it out of the water for the season. I think I'll DIY a duck blind next.
Outstanding ! Very nice job
Thank you! It’s now stored away for winter.
When I first read boat modification my thought was you were going to make a tiny home house boat. Then I saw the size of the boat and thought now that would be tiny! Anyways, I think I've been watching too many tiny home videos.
It looked like a lot of work both in carpentry and videography but they both turned out great, being out on the water looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks! Yes that would be quite a task. This was just a project between projects!
wow that's really nice! Love it!
Thank you!!!
Can you add where you purchased most of the mods .
Such as (swivel seats , water proof carpet, hardware , ext.)
Thank you
From a local boat dealership. They sold accessories and have a reupholstering department that sold me the carpet. Hardware Home Depot.
@@lauracoteDIY thank you! Your boat idea was great btw , gave me too close an idea to what I want on mine 👍🏻
SOLD! Just ordered my 12ft Pelican from Amazon (yeah, amazon lol!). Excellent mod, but was there a reason why you didn't chop into the front bench instead of creating the hatch? Just curious cause other boat vids they chopped into it (not a Pelican, others). Thanks!
Thanks! I didn’t want to mess with the boat structure in case I wanted to sell or change it up later on, also why these pieces are removable. The hatch has been helpful keeping things hidden and out of the way. The full platform helps with weight distribution and been nice to step onto for entry and exit at dock. And yes yay Amazon! Many add-on accessories on Amazon also.
Hey, great build! I'm looking into one of these boats for trash cleanups that I participate in. It would be awesome if you might be able to answer some of my questions before buying since I have a limited budget and can't find much info... My constraints are that I need something that can go on a car's roof racks without anything in it (do you think this is possible?) and also I was wondering if you think I would be able to throw a tire(s) or a shopping cart or a bike in the front and still be able to motor around back to the dock with like a motor that it's rated for 6hp-ish?
Hey thanks! I’d say this boat is great for trolling and leisure however you require excellent balance when standing as it does rock. I haul it in my pickup with wooden planks for support. I believe it may be too awkward/heavy to lift solo onto a car roof. Perhaps if you set up a pulley system? The price is right and does have a lot of space. If you can, a cheap-o boat trailer would be ideal. Maybe one of those half size shopping carts. I love that you do trash cleanups. One thing I do like is you can pull it on shore and over land so easily, no limitations there!
@@lauracoteDIY Thank you so much for the reply and info! That's really helpful!
How thick is the plywood you use?
I used is 1/2 inch. It’s holding up great.
If you put a floor in over the ribs in the floor, you will not be able to remove water between the ribs.
Not good to have any vessel with a deck that is not secured....
