I'm happy that Africa is increasingly assertive. In the past, before the rise of China, Africa knew who was their colonizer, but after WW2, Africa had to trade with the West anyway because there was NO other option or alternative. I won't say Africa must abandon the West, but their choices are more now.

To me, Singapore is not directly connected nor benefitting directly from the bri. Unsure till now why we are in this since no high speed trains linking our island to China. Beside the rmb exchange opportunity which still needs to compete with hk, london & black markets in the region, the rest of the opportunities for Singapore are more arbitrary in nature. E.g. the "Green" opportunity comes in only much later when criticisms emerged around 2016 or 2018(?). This obviously happened by chance rather than foresights. Perhaps Singapore Government can present the total cost it has invested and the direct revenue it has reaped so far in the past 10 years since the bri inception. The other ventures can happen as long as those few entrepreneurs mentioned can afford to take risk, venture / participate even without connect to the bri. Thus most of the reasons presented in this video seem a little forceful for me that bri appears very beneficial for Singapore. It is in the same light as trying to justify the humongous losses Singapore had suffered at Suzhou decades ago which many might have subtlely forgotten.

It good to see the debt trap misconception is slowly fading away with many Singapore analyst sees its beneficial to Singapore companies. Actually like how the Chinese people love going into debt purchasing lots of property around the world, we see their govt invest massively in property in BRI. The BRI is truly the road to the future for mankind so l think we should understand it’s significance and support it. But sadly an insecure US is hell bent on undermining it. BRI shows up the glaring difference between the Chinese practical and magnanimous attitude and the ruthless self importance of the US. The BRI build roads and bridges to peace and prosperity, while the US build military bases to war and destruction.

Americans get to heat and cool 2000 sq feet house 24/7, drive big SUVs and jet around the country for Thanksgiving while Africans, Asians and South Americans have to scrunge up a living and barely emitting any carbon because they are so under-developed many don't even have access to steady energy.

Feels like I just watched a propaganda video for the BRI, instead of something that tells us in more detail the intricacies and micro-relationships between nations and economies within the BRI. Also, what about all the "rumours" of how the poorer countries in the BRI are held to ransom by China when these nations find themselves in a position where they cannot repay their debts to China, and find their major national infrastructure or national companies that own their nation's ports and airports having to cede ownership and control to China or a Chinese company?

    • @duyataksis5210
      @duyataksis5210 Před 10 měsíci

The "rumours" you refer to are just Western disinformation and sour grapes. Is the BRI flawless? No. But it is a sincere effort by China to pursue common development with other countries.

However, when Singapore financial system and regulations and policies are juvenile in the international arena. There is no need to set a debt trap on this island. The increase number of Chinese patriotic immigrants alone will cover this island.

(Long) *Facts* about Chinese 🇨🇳 debt-trap loans to Sri Lanka that also apply to most BRI projects:
    - China was never transparent about its BRI loans.
    - third highest, at 10%, among Sri Lanka's $51 billion foreign debts.
    - Chinese annual interest is at 3.3%, *5 times* higher than Japanese loans.
    - Among all loans, Chinese loans must be *paid first.*
    - Chinese loans are not money. They are *construction debt.*
    - The loans must have *collateral, such as mines, seaports, etc.
    - Most BRI projects China developed are useless but may be useful for *the Chinese military.*
    - Chinese workers, mostly *men unable to marry* in China, are transported to Sri Lanka for BRI projects.
    - China took the Hambantota seaport for *99 years* as Sri Lanka's unable to pay.
    - unable to pay, Sri Lanka asked lenders for renegotiation. All responded, *except China.*
    - When Sri Lanka tried to import necessities, China *blocked* it because of unpaid debts.

BRI is already considered dead, the money kept by the chinese in local bank cannot be withdrawn because all money was invested in these BRi projects to help poor countries and the leader of these countries do large corruption in the projects and the country goes into debt and unable to pay back, while the chinese people money is gone, people are scared in China, the economy even gone into deflation.
China brother pakistan in the BRI and its already considered a failure, even the chinese engineers are killed by suicide bomber because people are angry at the chinese.
Another example is srilanka where the pm just ran off.
So many successful example of BRI.

@TheDGirsang. Seems you bought into the burden propaganda put forward by pro western analyst & media that wants to paint an image that the HSR investment is a mistake.
Infrastructure projects like HSR, subway, airport, seaport, roads, bridges, tunnels, dam, powerstations, etc are huge investments that will NOT be profitable immediately.
I suggest you look back when Indonesia built it's first tol road. Try digging up news, analysis by "economy expert" of that time. Bet you'll find "financial burden" reports. Fast forward to today. Look at how the first tol road has improved economy along it's path. Bet you the once empty tol road that people complain about the cost of the tol and how it will burden the people is now jam pack like non-tol road.
Can you imagine HSR network linking every major cities of Indonesia? And subway in all major cities!
