  • Elektra really just blew my mind. Saint's ability to simplify such a complicated mythology like the Trojan War is truly amazing. The writing is just as lyrical as Ariadne, yet this time round packs a punch for this horrific story of a cursed family, matricide, and war.

    I’m so excited about reading Elektra. I adored Ariadne (which I only finished yesterday), and I’m going to subscribe to your channel as soon as I finish typing this!

    I hadn’t heard of this, but definitely going to pick it up! Have to recommend David and Stella Gemmell’s Troy series, that starts with the incredible “Lord of the Silver Bow”.

      @@Leebearify The idea is that when Ptolemy ( A's General ) died his tomb epitomised both Hellenic and Egyptian cultures , that is he was sent into the afterlife sarrounded by books . An ENTIRE classical Greek library just waiting to be found .

      Ah I get it now!! Thank you sop much for the information. I agree, getting it found would be a fabulous gift to the world (and Erica, of course) !! What interesting reading, I need to do a deep dive into Ptolemy !!! Unfortunately, another big zero in my education I must fill in! Sometimes I feel as though I was raised under a rock.

    I am a man and I preferred to read this instead of Stephen Fry. Clytemnestra and Cassandra are well rendered. Elektra is certainly like the Elektra of Sophocles and Euripides, but would the feminists in Saint's audience find her tiresome...? Remember Elektra's attitude towards Iphigenia, Cassandra, Briseis etc?

    • @eveyoser268
      @eveyoser268 Před rokem +1

      Now that you mentioned it I do find Electra tiresome in the book because she thinks her father Agamenon is the greatest hero in Greece and sees her mother Clytemnestra as the villain not knowing her mother's true intentions

    • @UnlimitedBanana420
      @UnlimitedBanana420 Před rokem

      exactly, I did not like this book solely because of Elektra. I mean how can you name the book after a annoying girl who has no character arch whatsoever. I actually cringed at some of her comments about Cassandra and Briseis. And not to mention her treatment of my boy Georgios.
      Clytemnestra and Cassandra were beautifully written and very interesting characters but elektra was just dissapointing. I kept thinking Elektra was going to have some character development until I read the last sentence and realised she was just a flat character. I was so pissed. Give her a corruption arch at least.

    I'm sure this one will be much better than Ariadne. I always wondered why nobody picked on that character in any novel that girl even hannibal wouldn't be good enough for her taste.

      Ariadne was also fantastic, but Elektra really does blow it out the water 😍

    so do you feel obliged to read these crappy feminist retellings because you have some degree in mythology from a liberal arts school of some kind?

    • @MoAnInc
      @MoAnInc  Před rokem +4

      No? I read them because they’re not all “crappy” and I enjoy them. I also have a classics degree from NYU*
