There was a bow hunter doing exactly what you described above Glenwood Springs , calling to a herd of elf that he was watching , after calling he was sitting watching in the direction of the elk and he hears a small branch behind him snap . As he turned to look he was hit in the chest by 2 lions , they rolled , separated then the lions ran off towards the herd . He was camo'd out and had put cow elk piss on him to cover his scent .

When the cat freezes, it thinks you can not see him. As soon as you move your head, they will move to a new position. As soon as they feel they have been spotted, yep games over. Hopefully.

My dad had parked the convertible next to a cliff. He went off hunting for a cougar. In the mean time, the cat showed up on the cliff top. Just looking down at us. I know my mother was a bit scared. It wasn’t making the growling sound you see in the old movies so we’re safe. I remember my father being pissed after his return. Another time one came into a cabin we were staying in while sleeping. We had been cooking and the door was not very secure. My brother and I were not in the same room as my parents. Fortunately he left without me.

@@daskook2656You might want to double check that figure. Cougars have about a 25% success rate and that drops even lower when they hunt elk. None of the big cats but the cheetah get anywhere near 50%.
Humans also have every right to be anywhere and hunt animals for food, maybe in this case i know its not a necessity for the hunter to hunt, but when talking about rights we have the same as animals

I had a Colorado cougar ~ Jake was bought for $500 from a "lady" by a Navy SEAL. He broke his femur riding in a pickup truck at 6wks old. I was a Tech, working in a Veterinary Hospital. Jake imprinted on me, we bought land in a legal state & began building his enclosure to specs. The government stole him from us! He should have never been taken from the wild!!! I'm thankful for every single minute with Jake! Leave wildlife in the wild!!!
It wasn't aggressive at all. You can tell the hunter was able to sense that. Curious at best. Most likely didn't see him until they were right on eachother. That's honestly one of the most chill cougars
I'm not a wildlife expert and correct me if I'm wrong, but if that cat was stalking him he'd have never seen it. I feel it's more curiosity than hunting the hunter

As close as that cat was, if he stayed sitting, he could have been in a fight for his life. If he was elk hunting, he should have used his gun and shot at the cat either to put him down or chase him away.

The cat probably realized he was there and since he was sitting saw something it thought it could take down. Once he stood up and made himself bigger the cat was deterred. But 100% he’s hunting for elk so whatever rifle he’s using would be more than enough to handle a murder kitty

The cat wasn't scared away ... It decided to walk away. Personally I wouldn't have felt comfortable until I was locked safely in my truck. That cat is a MUCH better hunter.
