This was a pretty cool arc in the game. It was a surprise to me because I didn't know these two characters were a couple until very late in the game when exploring Bob Zanotto's mental world that Bob and Helmut were actually married. I've read through some community chats for 'Psychonauts 2' that this relationship was forced, but I disagree. I think my only complaint for this game was that a lot of characters weren't developed enough and that we didn't get a lot of interactions with them compared to the interactions for the first game.

Because he knew it wasn't really Lucy's fault she snapped, it was the Grulovian Royal Family that turned her into a monster.

Fun fact about the Moth: In Polish there's a term "ćma barowa" (pub moth), which means a drunkard, mostly drinking in pubs (till they're kicked out by its bouncer, but then they simply go to another one).
I have no idea if Double Fine knew about it, but since Moth tries to "protect" Bob by making him drink heavily till he doesn't remember anything, I can see it fitting.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize what sort of relationship these two had. They are just so CUTE together. I hope if there's a Psychonuats 3 we can see them together with Helmut back in his old body.
Or maybe have the game begin with Raz and the Psychic Six on a mission to find Helmuts body(this could also work as an inbetween game like the Psychonauts VR game).

I guess that's what it's like when media introduces a natural relationship, rather that force it down your throat.

I love how this is handled here, no overreaction, no one who gets distrubed or hates on it, no one who overpraises it. Heck no one even mentions it. You could switch it with a straight couple and it would remain the same story. Both characters have an actual personality than just being gay. THIS is how you normalize a gay couple in a story.
While I greatly appreciate this kind of thing, there's definitely room for stories that focus on being gay in a way that treats it like a big deal. Stories that explore prejudice and other such things. Both are pretty great.

If it's such a big deal, it's not normal. One or the other. Take it or leave it, you can't have both at some point. To be accepted, what was formerly prejudiced must become the norm.

Best case scenario: The tutorial level for Psychonauts 3 will be rescuing Helmut's body from Grulovia, and he'll be part of the main story after a recovery period.
I like to think it will involve Helmut playing mentor to Bobby Zilch.

I mean they were living at Green Needle Gulch. I can kinda see them setting up their own place on the base to stay close to truman and Lili now. Maybe even using their combined powers to make a literael tree house.

I honestly saw helmut and Bob being gay at the start due to the rise in the “we want gays but we don’t want to make them fully out there so not to offend the right or weird gamers”
But I never expected them to be so open about it, it’s refreshing to see and it makes total sense how bob’s bottles work with relation to helmut.
I like how it isn't told to us that they are gay. It's normal and that's all that matters. No big celebration for it. It's not like married people scream they are married post Wedding Day.
I’m aware this is only fiction, but i can’t get over how genuine and pure their love is written. Seriously! They make Noah and Ally look like Batman and Joker.

This is the best representation of gay romance I've ever seen in fiction. Even a guy like me can appreciate it so much and want to see more of it.
I remember seeing in the comments of another Psychonauts video that we see Coach Oleander's tanks from the first game can be controlled by the brain inside, so maybe Coach Oleander could make a sort of mech suit body for Helmut to use. It would give Oleander a chance to build something, at least. But then Helmut does seem pretty intent on getting his original body back, so maybe he wouldn't go for it.
Maybe he could pilot the mech until he finds his body again. It could be equipped with digging/swimming tools to get through the icy water!
Good on him, but shame on him for putting this many plant puns in his speech.

I knew there was no straight explanation for any Audi O related moments in Psi King's Sensorium. But I was surprised at how naturally the relationship just... existed. Not hyped up for the sake of gay rep, it's just a part of the characters' story.
Helmut Fullbear and Bob Zanotto are already one of my top 3 favorite couples in media. Heck, they're the main reason I'd really like to see an animated Psychonauts show, with a close second being Boyd Cooper/the Milkman.

Well, the Milkman wouldn't be making a return, since he left Boyd's psyche after Psychonauts 1, but maybe a return to his psyche to help fix/ease his paranoia, or just to see him now, as a normal person holding down a regular job with a clean bill of health. The same could be said of the rest of the Thorny Towers residents.

THIS is how you normalize. no fanfare, no calling attention to it. they are just there, and it's just a character note. they aren't defined by gayness
I love that about this game I sometimes replay the game it to see all the hints to it about these two being together

I especially love when they're able to reunite, it's so bittersweet. They're back together, but not fully. They can finally talk and jje after 20 long years, but they're still seperated in a sense. Helmut turning down Bob's kiss cuz he's not in his own body and it wouldn't be right will never *not* make me squeal. They're just too cute 🥺🥺

This, Billy Eichner, is how you write a gay couple. They don't need to say their sexuality, shoving it down our throat until it comes out the other end. They are written as a couple, a sweet, wholesome couple that haven't seen each other for 20 years. Honestly, they are two of my favorite new characters add to the series and are tied at five.
I didn't like the movie either. But I feel like that was done intentionally to criticize gay culture.
