- Review of a custom built Corner Desk made by Wade Guice of Guice Woodworks (www.guicewoodworks.com).
I am disappointed in the amateurish quality of construction. Mr. Guice claims the planks were all planed before construction. I do not see how that is possible, given the almost 1 cm variation in wood thickness. Joins are uneven on a few planks with 1/8 inch discontinuities in places.
Mr. Guice should be more proactive in keeping customers in the loop regarding progress. I had to repeatedly ask for updates. Once the desk was completed and fully paid for, I had to repeatedly ask about arrival date and tracking number. I do not think it was adequately packaged for shipment. It was basically sitting in a wooden create with very meager padding. The surface of the table was scratched in a few places during shipment. Since this is a rustic table, the scratches are not very noticeable, but I would expect more care to be taken when packaging.
If you are looking for an extremely rustic look, then I think you would be happy with Mr. Guices work. However, if you have very specific needs, I would not recommend him, since there is a lot of variation and irregularities in the work.
I had the same experience.
After several emails and conversations, we ordered a build-to-spec desk from Guice Woodworks. It was not built to our spec, it was built to whatever Guice felt like building.
The supplied drawing specified a height of 26.5". The finished product was 30.25" high.
The supplied drawing specified a desk component of 29" x 52". The finished product was 28.25" x 51.75".
The supplied drawing specified a desk component of 29" x 52". The finished product was 28.5" x 52".
The supplied drawing specified a desk component of 30" x 82". The finished product was 28.5" x 81.75".
Then he hides behind "all sales are final".
Avoid this business.
The table has gotten worse since I filmed this. I think some of the planks used were green. They have continued to shrink and warp. Mr. Guice knows of the issues and has done nothing to make this right. Pathetic.
Wow $ 1,160.00 ! I think you got taken . I have some ocean front property in Arizona for sale if you're interested....lol
I agree. It was $1600. Just trying to help others avoid my mistake. My motivations were good. I was trying to help a small business person succeed. But I think Mr. Guice is in the wrong business.
For the amount you paid for the desk I think they could have put out a better product. I was in business for over 25 years. I never minded spending money for a good product that would make my life better. But I always expected quality. You did others a huge service by showing the poor workmanship. I hope you can get some from of solution from the company. Good luck to you and I hope you're business is doing well.
