I was at Spangler Spring at night a long time ago. I swear I saw a confederate soldier standing in a restricted area at the time in the corner of my eye. I could make out a whole figure of legs, body, arms, head and hat right behind the spring shown at 4:06. When I turned my head, because it caught my attention, it disappeared.

Hi Cliff. I have a picture of the spring taken in 1899 and it looks exactly how it does now. I also have a picture of it during the war and it looked more like the other one you saw with no back. Really just a hole in the ground. Just thought I'd share!

There is also Menchey spring nearby as well!
This near the highschool stadium. There are
Rock carvings very close to Spangler Spring
As well! Culp’s Hill was a very contested area and most visited after the battle. Today it is
Still visited but no where nearly as much.
As much as “ghosts” are part of what
Gettysburg has become a part of entertainment and books about the same sell,
Well the majority are just made up. It sells!
The battlefield has been restored to what
It looked liked in July 1863. This was accomplished about 8 to 10 years ago!
Cliff, my many thanks to you for visiting
And sharing with us. I am a constant visitor
With the Wheatfield holding my interest! You
Do a great service in sharing your time with
    Us.......Please continue....
Folks please visit Gettysburg during Remembrance Day weekend this month. Google it to give you the info. I was the
    Parade Marshal(Provost Marshal) for
    Almost 20 years.

To; Fast4Slow, thank you for your reply. I think Antietam might be more accurately maintained, as they seem to be trying to make it look exactly as it did during the time of the battle. While Gettysburg seems more about monuments and commercial appeal, the goal at Antietam is to recreate the atmosphere of the place, at the time. There are few statues and not many reenactments there. Its more like just a window through in time.

Great series at Gettysburg WW! I've been all over the battle fields and the area quite a few times. I didn't see the woman in white but I did get anomalies on film and video. I have talked with a number of people who did see her and have seen pictures of her as well. There is also a story I heard that the woman's lover was in the battle and they planned to meet at the spring at night. Unfortunately he had been killed. So this story says she has been looking for her lost lover ever since. So who knows for sure. You may want to take Mark Nesbitts ghost tour sometime. He was a ranger there at one time and also a great historian. If you. Want to find out some of the exact history he has many booklets of the haunted stories of the battle. I have about five of the booklets. Thank You Kindly for you visit! It has saved me a 70 mile journey, although I never get tired of visiting Gettysburg. Peace and Pacing over great trails of beauty and history! DaveyJO

The actions made by the “woman in white” ghost can be explained, actually. Based on legends of ghost sightings at other battlefields, she could have either been looking for wounded soldiers who could be taken to a hospital, or she could have been trying to find a relative among the dead and wounded. After battles all over the world, people did exactly that, and then, of course, there were looters of the dead bodies, as there has always been. Of course, if there actually _is_ such a ghost, from what I know, she would have had to have died while doing whatever it was she was doing on the battlefield in order to be seen in ghostly form. But then, what kind of reasoning can be applied to an aberration??
