Solid MTB and Moto skills...we need some Stark Varg content from you 😅
Love the moto vlogs! keep them coming!
Thanks Chase! I'll have more in here soon, I have some ideas and plans in the works!
I gotta say I would LOVE to see more moto videos from you! I've been riding and racing MTBs for years now but just got my first moto this past fall, I've been having a blast trail riding it here at Rampart Range in CO and am looking into races coming up this spring. It's awesome to see the perspective of someone in a similar situation as me (albeit with a bit more moto experience), and I've been learning a lot from watching your moto videos. Keep em coming!!!
Thanks Eli! The moto stuff doesn't get nearly the same clicks as the MTB stuff, which makes sense, but it's REALLY engaging for the more dedicated followers. And I LOVE making this stuff! It's super fun for me to change up the video types. Stay tuned, I'll probably keep on the 10:1 ratio of MTB:Moto forever.
Not my greatest race, but I'm glad you caught all my mechanical troubles! What a day that was, great racing and wonderful video Jeff! Just so everyone knows I went and bought a brand new bike after this race, needless to say i was fed up!
More of these!!
Have never ridden moto, but this was fun to watch!
Thanks for the feedback Harpy!
Refreshing change up.
I'm just getting into motorcycles though I'm riding a street bike. I can't believe I waited this long in life to start cause it's crazy fun.
I'd personally love to see you do more MC stuff here and there.
Thank you Dave! Riding on the street scares me lots, but I make the exception for long distance road trips since those are indeed exceptional memories and experiences. Stay safe out there, and when you get a chance, try a dirt bike- I would not be too heartbroken selling the 890, but I plan to always have a dirt bike in the quiver. Cheers!
This is so good 👍 taking my love of both types of 2 wheel enduro racing. Keep up the awesome work Jeff.
Thank you Lockie!
Please keep the moto stuff going. I am a MTB rider as well that has just gotten back into moto and love to see these types of videos.!
Thanks Craig! I really enjoy the moto stuff- but the majority of vids will always be MTB since that's the focus of the channel. Expect about a 10:1 ratio (kind of like in 2023 and 2022!).
Nice racing! Been forever since I’ve done a regular enduro race
My family loves both MTB and moto equally- I must say that your moto video’s are our favorite 👍 who doesn’t love local home town racing!!! Thanks for the vids
CAT up! I’m getting back into moto riding after mostly MTB for the last 10 years and I’m having a blast.
Please keep the moto videos coming! This one was great! i ride both frequently but recently enjoying the moto more. My buddies and I got studded dirt bike tires, talk about hook up!
Thank you! Wow, studded moto tires... are you in the mid west? I have only been riding minimally the last couple months, but will get back on it again in March.
The camaraderie in this races are just top notch.
Agreed! I tried to show some of that with this vid, hope you enjoyed!
as a bc Moto guy who recently started pedalling and discovering Galbraith, I really enjoyed this and your channel
Thanks man! I appreciate that!!!
gives me a bit of hope for my own skill- Mr. Kendal-I-don't-even-need-a-front-wheel-Weed over here is about 4 orders of magnitude better than me on a mountain bike.. yet my Moto skill is much closer :)
hahaha @@olik136 cheers mate! Wish I could wheelie the moto better!
Hi Jeff! Nice Video 👍🏼
For fast (moto) Enduro you need to stand almost all the time.. For tight cornering you can sit.. have fun! ✊🏼
Shoutout to Nick for all the great work he has done on my car! Faction Automotive if you’re local to Bham :) great guy.
Fun video and commentary! Gotta appreciate a classic clip from Snatch, a well executed vague political reference, a hematoma, and of course the ol' blind squirrel.
Hell yeah, thats sick
I dont mind moto vids
Love the moto video my dude. I been racing 1x per month in the vintage races. Currently in 1st for the rev 3 armature and 1st in the Warrior class. I been dropping videos on my channel of the hold season. It is cool track set up for vintage because they take a bunch of jumps out of the track. The race set up you did seems really fun. It is crazy how it is cheaper to race my dirt bike then my MTN.
Awesome vid. That was fun to watch.
Thought of doing a 6 or 12hr event? Even 24hr maybe?
Thanks Rich! I did some 24hr races on MTBs 20 years ago... sorta burned out on those. Id rather do a mega adventure ride before another 24 hr event!
Love the braap braap!
Love the Logan digs. Go for the corvette Logan! Oh, and Jeff, you can always meet Logan at the dealership!
Hahahaha it's only allowed because he's at such a higher level than I'll ever be with the moto stuff!
I'm not a woods rider but standing up "too often" isn't really bad habit. Most guys sit too much elbows down and lacking control. Enjoyed the video
For racing, it's a super bad habit to stand too much, as you simply cannot corner as fast while standing. The trick is to stand on the straights/bumps/jumps, then sit through each turn. This helps separate out straights from corners, as when we stand too much, we simply ride the same speed all the time... It's crucial to separate out straights and corners. The seated cornering technique is faster than standing and cornering, and then it allows for even faster straights.
I think it depends on the course. In all our local woods series in new england 90% of corners are rocky/rooty and are slower if you sit because you get bounced around more. When you watch the AA guys they are standing and attacking almost all the time and only sit in smooth corners and straights. Just my thoughts, appreciate the videos!
Makes me want to race again! Fitness was really the only thing I ever had going for me. One year, I did all the spring OMRA GP races which are 1.5 hour races just because the schedule lined up better for me than the 3 hour XC races. I didn’t have the skill to ride fast enough to wear myself out in an hour and a half. Took 2nd in Ironman in a 6 hour race down at Starvation Ridge almost entirely because of fitness. Think I was next to last after the first lap, picked em off after the 3 hour mark. Anyway, office slug dad bod now. Bring your moto over to the Methow this summer and let’s ride!
Cool fun watch
will you Review the Ibis Oso??
Great video and nice job racing. I always recommend people move up if you finishing in the top 3 more than 3 times. Nothing teaches you how to go faster than riding with faster people.
Been thinking about trying some gnc or enduro races, after a lifetime of mx would be cool to try something else.
Thanks Eugene! You should totally rock some off road! If you like endurance stuff, those GNCCs look amazing!
I ride atv in the woods and it’s super fun but this looked awesome. Nice video!
Thanks Danggle! I need an ATV to do chores at home hahaha!!!
I’ve used to own a DR650 dual sport. I’ll tell it goes and in hand with MTB and moto you learn so much from riding the different disciplines. My bike was setup mostly for road with light off roading I loved that bike so much I put over 20k on it a lot of riding I miss it but the MTB I rekindle it a long lost childhood dream lol keep riding motos! Do both as much as you can
Suspension set up question, i year people saying you should only bottom mount a few times a ride or even save it for a huge hits but when watching videos like yours and other good pro riders it seems like their forks are coming nearly to bottom out all the time. when I ride with my fork set up this way it feels better grips better and helps me with big hits better as well and when I ride with my fork set up to only bottom out durring extreme circumstances or basically never, the fork feels like it’s bouncing around the chatter all the time and then even in big hit doesn’t absorb all the way that I wanted to giving me a whiplash affect. I’m talking 5-10 psi difference can make my whole bike feel plush and awesome (but bottoming out nearly every big hit) or stuff and chattery. Are volume reducers my solution?? Or is the common knowlaege around how often you should bottom out wrong and even the people chanting this don’t know that they are nearly bottoming out on even mid size hits in their videos. Pros bikes look so freaking soft honestly.
Are you talking about MTB or moto? For MTB, I've always believed you should only bottom on the biggest hits. I try to run a healthy amount of sag, ~25% in back, and then tune with volume reducers from there. High speed compression helps if the volume reducers needed end up being too much.
Nice, didnt knew you use to ride moto too, iam going the other direction, leaving mtb a little abandon to ride moto, not competing tought.
The nice thing between the 2 is that the skills transport between the 2. You lose the fear of speed and big jumps in the moto, and get more control, and slow control trial style in the mtb.
Cheers
Ah don't leave your bicycle behind! The saying goes "bicycles build you up, motorcycles break you down." And I swear, it's true! Motorcycles are crazy fragile compared to bicycles- SO MUCH more maintenance. Bicycles don't need nearly the servicing, so they are more more rideable more often.
How long were the laps? Were they all exactly the same or was there variation? I would one day love to do something like this some day. I think I would really enjoy something longer distance cross country, like a GPS rally or something
Laps felt like 45 mins, but were about 24 mins in reality. Something like 9 miles per lap. On this race, no variation in course since the property is small. But the Black Bear enduro in July was 2 different loops, maybe 35 and 30 miles, and there were numerous sections that were timed within that. The Black Bear was cool, but the terrain was mellow... The Bellingham event was IMO better for racing. I sure wish the Black Bear was more technical!
you testing the shuttle sl next?
Currently got one in the quiver! Review was supposed to drop today, but we got too much snow and ice to finish filming. Stay tuned!
I got the black/lime version a few months ago. wicked bike it is. Finished building my Evil Offering(bcs of your review, I had to get one. lol) and just received my Evil Insurgent yesterday. Evil gave me a good deal since I bought two frames. Cheers! @@JeffKendallWeed
we want more enduro!
Hahaha stay tune! 10:1 ratio MTB:moto!!!
best part of this video, i didn't hear you say ibis one time
HAHAHA you're right! Thanks for making me laugh!
More Moto please Mr. J K DeCoster !
A class and let ego work its magic! not a dig, everyone has ego but using it to your advantage is a skill :)
Hahaha thanks for the bump, I appreciate that! I read "Ego is the Enemy" by Ryan Holiday, that was a GREAT read- but it's more about stoicism. I agree- it's normal to "rise to the challenge," but it feels kinda weird!
I can say that yes MX is a bit overwhelming but that's way too much fun to ignore, hey man I'm 40 and still going 😂
Oh btw in tight spots you're always better off counter leaning it's faster and you'll feel more secure especially if you have a tendency to be high on the bike, I noticed you lean with the bike a lot, mountain bike style 🤘
Take it or leave it
Cheers Lauren! Believe it or not, the multi time national harescramble champ Brian Garrahan taught me in his classes that if there is a rut, lean with (or more than) the bike, using the whole bike and body to load the rut. The vast majority of corners on these courses are rutted. He did say that if it's a flat track style turn, then lean the bike more than body, like we do on MTB trails. I found that fascinating!
I'm about to turn 37 never raced mtb or moto. Jeff I want to see you try A Talaria sting or surron x have you yet?
Oh man, try racing all the things you do just for fun! No need to be amazing at it, but it will absolutely improve your abilities! And it's really fun. And you'll meet cool people! I have ridden a Surron Light Bee and Ultra Bee. Light Bee felt like a hunk of junk, but the Ultra was a BLAST, I'd love one of those!
@@JeffKendallWeed Yeah I will have to soon Just for shits and gigels. lol Yeah when compared to full sized moto it can be seen in that light my Gf has the light bee the only thing i'd consider Junk is the suspension But given she is only 115lbs and not to aggressive of a rider Id say it was well worth the 4500 for her I got the Talaria mx3 a little better in some ways but not much I had to get the fastace fork with 60lbs coil to handle my riding they are like Lightweight Trail bikes for that we have a lot of fun on them also fun on mini mx track or simple tight turn tracks.. that being Said the Ultra bee came out right after I got my Talaria lol I may have got that instead if it was around at the time
Hahaha Sorry to shit on your hobby!@@mountaingoat8788 I tend to share my honest thoughts on these when I really shouldn't... The MTB brakes and minimal tires just don't do it for me with a 125lb machine.
@@JeffKendallWeed lol no worries man to Each thier own. and I Love when people are honest. I agree the tires need more Meat/volume I want to go 18 or 16 in rear to fit a fater tire but then stock power would need upgrading and thats not cheep lol..
You're supposed to yell out, "on your left!"🎉🎉🎉
LOL right?! My bad!!!
Jeff just race MX in the 30+ maybe (40+?)
Jeff what’s the thought on the mako??
I was bummed at the $400 price, though it did smooth vibrations a little bit. After ~25 hours, the elastomers are now kinda falling apart... I'll do a vid riding with and without it for an A-B comparison. I think it'll find a permanent home on the 890 though, and I'll get back to running a bar pad on the 150.
Was Logan wearing a mtn bike helmet?! How much do these types of bikes typically weigh?
You should find a way to ride moto with Mr. Bernard Kerr.
The dirt bikes today are amazing. In the late 1960s and early 1970s I rode motocross and enduro. The bikes then had 3 to 4 inches of non-adjustable suspension. They bounced all over the track.
Now that I am 72 years old and retired I can’t afford one modern dirt bike so will never know what it is like to ride a motorcycle with over 4 inches of travel. I guess I will have to be satisfied with riding my mountain bike. Since that is an enormous joy I can’t feel sorry for myself.
I vote for going for the more advanced class. Even though you will be at the back of the pack you will learn to ride better from the riders in front of you.
Bicycles first, motorcycles second! Thanks for the vote on going up to the A class... After sucking at moto racing for so many years, this might be the nudge I need to try the harder class! Sorry to hear you don't think it's financially in your cards to try the newer bikes... $4k gets a pretty sweet modern YZ250X or YZ125X... those are pretty gnarly though. A Surron Ultra Bee (NOT the small Light Bee) is an AMAZING bike that's got a pretty low barrier to entry.... No clutch/shifting, only 190lbs, lower seat heigh, $6500 brand new....
your political party comparison cracked me up
Thank you! I thought that was a fun line.
Am i the only one who gets sketched out by Ryan riding the moto with a MTB helmet?
you know being a racer the only way to get faster is to ride with faster people ;-)
Just doing an add read with a broken visor, lol
Run what ya brung! #reallife. sorry not sorry hahahaha!!!
I say go for the championship and then bump up to A
If you’re the fastest guy in the group, you’re in the wrong group.
But seriously... Where is more Santa Cruz BronsonMX videos? X-D
I wish I was riding that bike more! Been too busy riding other fun, new bikes...
First world problems. Tough life... tough life... 😆 x-D
Well this makes me wish my new vitpilen was a dirt bike instead
@spindatt you shoulda asked me what to get hahaha! Congrats on the new rig, plan out some sweet trips and travels!!! Street bikes are sweet for going across the state! And definitely add a bicycle rack to it!
@@JeffKendallWeed bike rack is currently getting built as we type haha
Hell ya!!! @@Spindatt
I really don’t need to buy a moto 😩
Bicycles first, motos second.
It looks like your buddy Logan is wearing a MTB helmet and not a motocross helmet. I hope you guys remedy that and all wear moto helmets in the future.
Logan's gonna Logan.
While I have been meaning to get a new moto helmet, I can’t imagine they’re all that much safer than a DH rated MTB helmet. I go much faster, hit much larger jumps, and overall take way more risks on my downhill bike than I do on my moto.
Logan, your mom would be happy to get you a new helmet!
I used to ride enduro, but I’m faster just jogging…
LOL fair! This course was quick, like 25 mph avg speed.
YES. Make this your last race please.🚳
Last race in the B class!!!
Ask Butler if you should move up.
Hahaha right? In reality, I need a little more experience to race A competitively at the national level events in CA... I was ~top 10 in B at Donner HS, but that was first HS back since like 2016! I'm pretty bad at shifting, too, a 4T helps me be a LOT more competitive in HS races.
