Lapis can be a darker or a lighter blue and will have very tiny flecks of metallic gold in it. The metallic gold is bits of pyrite. Lapis can also have flecks or streaks of white. I have also seen lapis with a little bit of powdery fine black specks. The most valuable lapis is a darker, brilliant, jeweltoned blue and few - to - no white streaks/flecks. I have heard that most of the world's lapis comes from a mine in Turkey, and that the lapis in that mine has run out. I don't know if this is true -- but if it is, I would think that the value of lapis will be increasing.
