My Emotiva is rated at 8 ohms. It is XPA-5 it puts out 200w at 8ohms. These amps like OSD model 7200, you would think it would put out close to 200watts at 8 ohms, not 4 ohms. Kind of like false advertising that cheap car audio does…

OSD is offering FIVE year warranty this time. Hope this design is more reliable that previous version. Both 5200 and 7200 are using two toroidal transformers and are heavier by more than 10lbs than previous version. Each channel has 4 x 10000 uF capacitors. Previous version is class H has one toroidal transformer for both 5 and 7 channels and each channel has 4 x 6800 uF capacitors. It has idle current of 0.14 Amps. The input sensitivity is 1 volt if that means something for some people.
The amps are made by a company registered in Taiwan in 1980, Homni Electronics Company Limited, which set up a factory in China in 1994. The same factory also makes Outlaw amps. OSD had a legal fight with Outlaw about S/N ratios labeling and and manual of previous version of 5180 and 7180 amps and lost to Outlaw.
These OSD amps are fanless, while Emotiva A serious has two fans due to low cooling capacity.
Outlaw 5000x uses one toroidal transformer for all channel. There are 4 x 6800 uF capacitors for each channel.
I'd like to know your opinion on the 5200 when it arrives !

I am comparing this amplifier (5200) to my 7 channel Musical Fidelity...almost identical design. Specs almost the same with dual transformers and 4x 1000 per channel. Musical Fidelity 2.8 DB headroom at 4 ohms wich makes it almost 400 watts @ 4 ohms.
The specs on those things are INSANE for that price, and an EXTRA 200 off!?
I have the XA5180 and it's been very solid! I paid $400 for it originally and it was a complete steal.

I have the same Amplifier for a few years now and with all the discounts I paid less than $400.00, no problems with OSD amps and I believe it’s the best bang for the buck
Just recently received the HTA5200 and WOW, it's built like a tank! Quality all around is the first impression you get with this unit. I struggled trying to find a video on YT that does a good job explaining what you get by adding a dedicated amp to a HT. From my experience, adding the 5200 to my system gave me more noticeable separation and much more noticeable surround. There's much more presence in the lower volumes as well, where previously I would find myself adjusting levels in dialogue due to the lower volume to achieve more clarity in quieter scenes. I can also say running the amp for hours at my max listening levels for music/movies I was stunned the amp was barely even warm to the touch, like so little I'd actually say mildest of warm. For the specs, price point, build quality, this thing is amazing.
I have last year model OSD Nero XA7180 Multi Channel (7x) Class H. It's a tank 70 pounds, plays flawless for 2 years zero issues and its clear and loud powers all B&W CM2 S2. Not sure why more people don't buy these OSD amps for the price and build. they clearly outsourced to a big name like Outlaw/ATI or something. I think I picked it up right from OSD for $740 2 years ago. Other brands I looked it into Emotive and Monolith, but I went this route since it was cheaper and more powerful. Glad I purchased it. It runs all 7 channels and my 4 Onkyo RXZ50 takes care of my 4 Atmos heights.

OSD is so new to home theater market, while Outlaw has been in the market for 20 years and well established. People will buy Outlaw for the similar price and specs over OSD. Outlaw and OSD are sourcing home theater amps from the same company/factory. So the built quality should be very similar.
@@swllz Actually if you look under the hood of a MUSICAL FIDELITY AMP...you will see the same design... maybe different brand names on capacitors. But almost identical...
@@LexusAllTerrain1 I just brought an OSD HTA 5200, which replaces Nero line. Both OSD lines should most likely come from the same factory in China and have similar specs. Nero line stopped due to the lawsuit with Outlaw.
been loving my xa3200 powering my polk r700's and r400
The HTA5200/7200 is 215W per channel (all channel driven) at 4 Ohms. 105dB SNR at 1W and >110dB at all channel driven and >110dB SNR at all power driven. Outlaw is @109dB all channel driven.
That's rated at 240v input. The standard 120v is lower
And none of them actually meet those rated specs. It’s pointless to even mention them. Look up ASR reviews.
I believe OSD said the new amps have been sent to ASR for testing.
I have a 5 channel OSD that I run my LCRs on and love it. Lots of clean power for a good price.
I use OSD amps for my HT and they are awesome. For the money, it's impossible to beat. Great quality too, it doesn't feel cheap by any means.

The open display amp OSD had at MWave had one feature that caught my eye.
Each Amp board had its own bank of capacitors vs one or two large caps for the entire unit.

I have last model year’s seven channel version, the Nero XA7180, and it’s absolutely wonderful. People are sleeping on OSD for sure, I honestly don’t know why more people aren’t talking about how great these amps are.
Hopefully they continue to sleep, because popularity drives prices up lol
OSD has always been about providing value. I do not see them changing that.
I have the older Nero amps, the 5 and 7 channel. Both tanks, and power for days.
Just received my HTA 7200 today and hooked it up to my RZ50 with some old school ADS 1590 speakers. Sounds insanely good and super heavy. Excellent value at $799 and was able to use some amazon reward points from my credit card to make it even cheaper. Was looking at getting the monolith 7x200 channel amp, but at more than half the price couldn't resist.
Been eyeing down a "budget" 7 channel for my 6 Atmos. Was saving for buckeye or outlaw but at 800 I pounched. Thanks for that youthman deal!

I just removed the LFE cable from my OSD Trevoce 12's. Onkyo receiver crossover now at 50 HZ and Subwoofer crossover knob all the way Up to bypass it. Movies sound Awesome. LFE was okay with Onkyo at 80 HZ or still good quality bass, but using the Dual Left & Right (Red and White cable Y shaped) with single out from the Onkyo & crossover at 40 to 50 HZ (Depending on the movie) the Subwoofer hits way better. This is because I have never used any DSP adjustment like iWoofer app. OSD subs need Low Crossover or DSP to hit 10-30 HZ. Some movies I will put Onkyo crossover up to 60HZ if it's not a bass movie. Edge of Tomorrow- Live Die Repeat, I had the Onkyo sub crossover at 40 HZ it was Awesome. Godzilla 2014 too.
I have the x3200 and I have been really happy with it. I bought it without a lot of info or review its really good imo...glad to see these new models.
I recently got the Emotiva BasX-3 for my fronts and really like it. I can see the OSD 5 channel (or 4 channel if they have one) for the rest of my base layer in my near future.

Unfortunately about a week late on the deal.
I have 3 of the OSD 5 channel amps. 2 of the Black A5500 and just recently picked up a Nero XA5180 which really is just a Black with a different name. I have 1200 invested in all 3. Glad I was able to get the Nero before they were all gone. The newer Nero design you show here would not have matched my setup.
Im at $86,000 in the bank.. no debt and im loving it.. living on less than you make and believing that you can is one heck of a step in achieving it

I am so happy I came across those amps. I do not want planning on spending my money as I could have stayed with my Polk T50 floorstanding speakers, but I went with the JBL Stage A180 floorstanding speakers because I wanted something that's neutral and unforgiving. Oh, well. I don't mind not missing the $200 off before it expires May 1st.
Wish I knew these were coming out. Just purchased the XA5180 a year ago. Looking to upgrade to a 7 channel soon. Still like the specs on the Outlaw. It will be between one of these two models.
Hey would you know the difference between the Nero and the black addition?
Would enjoy seeing a video on the differences between SLR outputs and RCA outputs (balanced and unbalanced) on amplifiers.
I do not have the means to measure that.
@@Youthman Totally get it. Do you prefer to connect your preamplifier with the SLR or RCA connections, and does it make a difference in your room with your set up?
XLR is good for long runs. If they are short, RCA works just fine unless you get a hum. Sometimes XLR can remove that. XLR does have a higher gain so that’s the only real benefit on shorter runs.

@@tabularasa820the thing to watch out for is if the AVR/Amps have actual balanced XLR circuitry and it just Unbalanced XLR circuitry without the noise cancelling.

Noticed these are class AB while the outgoing model it replaced was class H. I’m assuming this was a way to make them cheaper? They do make a little bit more power than the outgoing XA series.

Ok got my unit the OSD HTA5200
First impressions compared to my Yamaha RX-V1700: Both hooked to a 12" powered sub ported in the front, speakers are Focal Aria 926 in 2 channel mode. The Yamaha is every bit as punchy and actually has better clarity using all the same settings. It has 130 watts per channel RMS at .04% thd 8ohms. Also compared to my Sansui AU-717 advertised at 85 watts at .025% thd 8 ohms (has been fully restored), the Sansui in my opinion sounded better than both the OSD Amp and the Yamaha receiver. It had cleaner fuller sound with more detailed and controlled mids and highs and also deeper bass. Even though I had the sub hooked to it on channel "B" for music, I thought I could go without the sub on the Sansui. I will give it a few days. With OSD it was definitely on the warmer side, but I felt I lost detail over the Sansui. These late 70's amps were rated very conservatively from many manufacturers including this one with the new Nichicon caps it's hard to beat for the price.
Wow These are Beautiful Looking Amps and it being nice and heavy is always a good sign. I may have to order one for my Home theater. Hopefully these OSD's are are available in Canada.
What about Monolith? Why not include that brand as well. Aren’t you using a Monolith amp in your theater setup? Great video can’t wait to see the shootout!

Jason, I didn’t include Monoprice as their 200x7 is $1,800. I forgot they did come out with a budget series so that could be comparable as well. Looks like they have a M7100X (90x5) for $650 and a M5100X (90x5) for $550.
And yes, I’m still rocking my Monolith 11X but it’s $2,500.
@@YouthmanAudioholics reviewed the new cheaper Monoliths and they appear to be the same exact amps as the Emotivas, both circuit board and performance wise.
Monolith are a big step up in quality. These are good deals for budget amps but the distortion and signal to noise ratio is entry level.
Really wish I knew these were coming out. Came out right after I purchased the Aperion Energy E7. I could have gotten two OSD HTA7200 for what I paid for the one Aperion Energy E7 😢

Does the power scale up with channel usage like the old XAs (as channels used decreases, output ramps up per channel)?
Just a note I am in Australia and find it frustrating that all the decent amp suppliers don't ship to Australia , Love your channel by the way we are limited to what we can get. After watching this video was ready to buy two 7 channel versions but can't get them .
Looked at emotiva before this then read a review that they are having trouble supplying customers and had to do a heap of refunds even looked at outlaw amps and the same problem will not ship to Australia is there a third party I could purchase through to get osd amps in Australia happy to pay for shipping just trying to get my hands on them.
Yeah, that is unfortunate Dennis. I’m not familiar with the hoops that manufactures have to jump through to be able to offer international shipping. But I’m sure it’s a huge endeavor.

Hi youth man, been here for a while. I always wondered, when should I obtain an amplifier over a AV receiver?.
I have height channels and setup as a 7.1.2 setup. None of which. Require over 200w of power.
Great price, for my case no good though since I really want class D so I’m eyeing buckeye. But I still have time before I upgrade so let’s see what happens

Considering their 2 channel 350x2 to power my heco700's. Hecos rated 30-300watts. I want to give them close to 300w rms but cant find rms rating anywhere on that amp. Any input appreciated. Trying to wake up the midbass without having to turn them up so much
I have two OSD 5-channel amps. They are really heavy amps. I love them. I was going to also buy. The 3-channel amp. But I just realized. For some reason. OSD stopped making the 3-channel. Don't see it on they website.
The HTA4200 is coming, you can bridge the two channel for three channel.

Youthman could you please answer a question about the OSD HTA 5200? I am using the emotiva xda 3 as my preamp/dac.that runs into the 5200 using balanced outputs,the rca outputs are being run into my monolith m10 v2 sub using subs rca inputs.m10 v2 also has a balanced sub input and balanced sub output to daisey chain to a second M10 v2 sub. is there a balanced output y splitter to feed the balanced input on M10 v2 sub from emotiva dac/pre ?can you correctly split a balanced differential reference signal from a so equipped pre amp?THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME,ANSWER FROM EMOTIVA WAS POOR AND NOT HELPFUL.

I believe Buckeye has these beat on specs. Much higher power and small form factor. You should add them to your reviews (especially since Ryan reps for them).
Buckeye makes fantastic amps, but at $1,600, they are not comparable.
I am looking at upgrading home theatre with full Arendal 1723 set up, would the OSD amps get the best out of them? Do you think another amp would be better?

Will this power a passive OUTDOOR sub, Forza 10", I also need to power to other 200 W speakers. (2.1?) outdoor system in zone 2
Should be able to. I have an Atlantic technology SA-180 amp, which is rated 180 watts @ 4 ohm, 0.03% THD. It can drive my PSB 6i 12" subwoofer louder and sound better than the original 225 watts internal internal rated amp. The reason I use SA-180 is that the internal class H amp (class D) died and I am running external SA-180 amp. This OSD is also rated at 180 watts @ 4ohm. So 180 watts clean power can drive any 10 subwoofer.

@@Youthman Yeah it’s a huge project I’ve been working on for a couple of years now and I’ve just recently expanded my own home theater media server to go along with it and I’m trying to make it more accessibly free where you can just click a button, press play, and it works!!! No more dealing with applications and third party sites where you have to pay for everything and not have money left over to do other projects. So it’s been the best decision I’ve ever made in the hobby.

If you click on specifications, you will see two sets of measurements for both 4ohm and for 8ohm depending on the amount of distortion.
All Channel Output:
4 Ohms @1% THD - 210W
8 Ohms @1% THD - 145W
4 Ohms @0.1% THD - 180W
8 Ohms @0.1% THD - 125W
You can get more power from the amp but at higher Total Harmonic Distortion levels.
OSD punches way above the belt. Would love to see Gene put these on his bench…

I saw different specs for the OSD amps. I saw 145 watts in 8 ohms and 210 in 4 ohms. Maybe what I saw is wrong. With that discount I think I will get one.
There are two sets of measurements because there’s different ways that manufactures measure them.
Back to car audio days when some brands would post RMS (continuous) power while another brand would post PEAK power. OSD is posting both so you can more easily compare against other brands.
They did the same with S/N. You will notice two measurements there as well. When you look at other brands like Emotiva’s website, they use the inflated A-weighted S/N as that number looks better. It’s all marketing games that brands play. OSD is just doing their best to be transparent.
@@Youthman got it. That makes sense. I really used to be into car audio. It was always important to find a receiver with the highest volt preamp output. That is why I always went with Clarion. I was also a big fan of Phoenix Gold, Soundstream, Orion, and PP Sound. You brought back a lot of memories mentioning car audio🤣🤣🤣. One more thing how long will the Youthman sale last? If you purchase on Amazon, you won’t need to use it. There’s a little checkbox that says apply $200 coupon.
If you’re purchasing directly from their website, on the final checkout page, there’s a link that says add a coupon code. That’s where you would put in Youthman.
