  • In today's episode, we're headed to the Govan ghost town.
Sitting in a desolate part of Washington, neighboring towns were few and far between. This made it a haven for crime.
The small town consisted of a post office, a schoolhouse, two saloons, and two general shops.
It was an agriculture-oriented community boasting a population of 80 at its peak.
Murders, crime, and tragedy swept the small town.
In 1902, J. A Lewis, a retired judge, and his wife were found dead. It was deemed as a robbery gone wrong. The robber entered the house with an axe, striking Lewis repeatedly on the head. He bled out on his kitchen floor. His wife, witnessing the crime tried to flee but didn't make it. She was dragged to a nearby shed, where she was beaten to death. Both being retired and of old age, received sparse visitors. The bodies were discovered months afterward.
In 1903, a gunman ran into one of the local saloons and shot and killed C.J., a community local. Soon after, the gunman was caught but was not convicted.
In 1941, a mother and her son were murdered at their house. The son's body wasn't discovered until 1949. His remains were found in a nearby field. Suspects were found, but no one was convicted.
The small community gained an onous reputation. Crimes continued to flow until 1971, when a blaze broke out and, put most of the town to ashes. Minimal effort was initiated to rebuild.
    Today, three residents remain.

Taggers have to ruin everything. Too bad the roof is gone. The open exposure will hasten the demise of the building. And that's a shame because it's a cool building.

The old schoolhouse has great architecture, but it would take a LOT of work to restore it (The advantage is that the prices for land there are probably extremely low) 👍

The only thing keeping the land value up is the agriculture. If it wasn't for that, I can't imagine it being worth much.

It'd be a great place for a metal detector.

Interesting video. The two small rooms in the schoolhouse are probably 1 side for boys the other for girls for their belongings. Beautiful structure at one time.

I just moved from Eastern Washington, There are a lot of weirdos there. Most of the weirdos I met were from Western Washington.

Haha, I noticed that about Washington. the Western side was full of hipsters, rude, and depressed people and the eastern side was full of weird and standoffish people. When it comes to states I've visited, Washington definitely takes the cake for the most unusual people!

Govan! 5 miles from where I grew up. It was the only local town that never got built back after it burned down. Have searched many times around the Lewis residence spot looking for silver, never found anything......
