I don't think even my mother looks at me like the conductor to Pletnev during this encore... Jokes apart, this is other level of piano playing. Great master.
Such economy of motion yet with such remarkable contrasts in moods- from child-like, carefree innocence to dark, unsettled conflicts of the soul. Mikhail Pletnev inhabits Schumann's world with conviction and certitude. This is playing that lays bare the music, free of affectation, exaggeration, and contortion. One can see how rapt up in the performance the conductor is, gladly being carried on the journey as are we- compelled to listen as Schumann's personal truth is brought to life by this wonderful pianist.
It doesn't get any better. Pletnev always had infallible fingers and as he's gotten older he's matured into a sublime artist. Gilels, Pletnev and Sokolov can't be beat.
What a musical beauty, midden in the heart. The world stands still and Pletnev allows us to hear his improvisation (i guess he played the Arabeske many times in his life, but here he sit down and says, whats new about this piece and whats new in this moment) of this wonderful piece (or better peace). Thank you!
Infinitely more beautiful than his studio recording of this piece. His studio recordings rarely interest me but all of the live recordings have something special
So true! I keep coming back to his famous carnegie hall and Moscow conservatory recitals. The only important exception is his monumental Scarlatti record
The conductor besides Pletnev is very moved and is shedding tears because of its depth of expression. It truly IS a deeply moving piece of music. Thank you, Robert Schumann. What is the name of this conductor?
Maurizio Pollini, my hero/favorite pianist of the past 45 years-whose concerts and recordings I have listened to so many times-died two weeks ago, devastating my heart & soul. A week later, I attended Daniil Trifanov’s concert in Dallas-my grief has been softened…his unique technique and beautiful/stunning interpretations are mesmerizing; I was so enchanted, I could not move. Nor did the rest of the audience. Brilliant! His heart seemed to sing through each note, his touch floating/digging into each key! Thank you Mr. Trifonov!!
Thank you so much ADGO. The BEST pianist in the world and a GENIUS! The conductor is the favoured one in this concert by far to be so close to watch.Where is Maestro Pletnev playing.? May this great pianist be well and safe considering the virus take-over in Russia.
It's a shame, as always happens on ADGO - they will delete it, and very quickly ... It's a shame...

That's because Noseda knows something about Music. :)

Beautifully said.
Lang Lang beware - great masters of the piano need not gesticulate all over the place!
Gigantic pianist! And to think that I only began appreciating him recently.
Likewise, how lucky we are...

I never realized how magisterial this miniature piece could sound.
Hypnotic musicality.
Hypnotic fingers and body language.
Wish I could take conductor's place and close listen with my heart to Pletnëv's heart.
@Micaela Bonetti
You are right... Mikhail and me feel and think alike. For my next concert I play this as first and then Kinderszenen. Baci baci

absolutely astounding Maestro Mikhail Pletnev!
Listening to good music for half a century, this is truely one of the richest and most enjoyable performances that I can think of.
This is too beautiful, not from this world! Moments full of magic.
