What a huge musician he is. I've never been disappointed by his playing so far. Mr. Pletnev is one of the most re-composing performers of our days. I admire him very much.
Love him or hate him, Pletnev is a true original, and I applaud his individualistic choices and approaches to classical standards.
Oh, i remember this concert so well. It was late autumn in Moscow, rather cold one. And this music matched it so well (He also played f minor concerto this evening). It was fantastic, i consider it as one of my most treasure memories.
This is exactly what great concert pianists should be: no emotion on the face, yet rich emotions in the music.

Тогда еще и интернета не было. Не помню уже, когда первый раз услышала его игру. Жаль, что я не была ни на одном его концерте. Приедет ли он к нам снова? Сейчас, в нынешней ситуации. Да, как дирижер. Он и прекрасный дирижер.
Жизнь поляков вообще довольно трагична. Они в музыке Шопена нашли и лелеют для себя какую-то светлую надежду и твёрдую опору. Но вот такое исполнение не может содержать в себе никакой опоры. Может, он назло полякам так играет?
А вообще лучший Плетнёв - это именно 70-80-е годы. Дальше у него начинается алхимия.

Wow! Simply wow! Rarely do I find so much new sounds from renditions of these preludes. Pletnev really sheds brand new lights to these work!
I’ve just discovered this wonderful artist. His approach to Chopin is unusual. He uses more ritard, rubato and tempo fluctuations than most any other great pianist I’ve ever heard. It’s wonderful. It works beautifully. He really has the romantic feel for these little gems. I think he’s a very great pianist.

Pletnev held several tours in Asia with the same repertoire in 2004 and I was lucky to attend the concert in Seoul. As you all can see on this video, it was the most unique and brilliant interpretation of Chopin Prelude. Pletnev is a true genius and I hope to see him more often playing the piano.

Pletnev is surely the most phlegmatic of pianists; his body barely seems to move more than the absolute minimum required and his face rarely changes expression. Such concentration!

Stunning! Original. Top 3 for me. From the first note I was taken with Pletnev's phrasing. His judicious use of the pedal and his perfect legato. I've always been a big fan of his infallible fingers but I had no idea he could play these so beautifully.
For me my favorites are Sokolov, Bolet, Ashkenazy, Cortot and now Pletnev.

@@proteus6366 я же не рекламное агентство для выявления музыкантов. Для этого раньше были конкурсы. Сейчас эти конкурсы за бабки. Ну я же тоже с вами вместе живу в мире где бабки рулят.
Самые хорошие музыканты не лезут в эту грязь. Поэтому сложно в грязи увидеть бриллианты.
Хороших музыкантов много сейчас. Очень много.

Раньше были Нейгауз, Микелянжели,Липатти, Софроницкий и много других больших людей.
Но, может быть, должно пройти какое то время, -кото го отсеять из сегодняшних, а кого то завпечатлеть в истории музыки.
@@proteus6366 я согласен-конкурс это не для музыки. Но в ссср конурсы были более-менее справедливыми. Вот если бы не конкурс наш им.Чайковского Плетнева бы тоже не знали. Он бы сейчас где нибудь в церкви детскому хору аккомпанировал и аллахам бы там молился. Благодаря системе ссср его знают многие.
Сейчас таких как Плетнев сотни, но они работают в других местах: кто тракторист, кто муз-училище, кто в музыкальной псих-больнице. Понятно, что они более пыльно выглядят внешне, меньше времени чтобы бриллиант шлифовать.

Pletnev é Interprete Sublime. Non suona Lui, suona Chopin. Se il Polacco lo avesse conosciuto, questi capolavori a Lui li avrebbe dedicati! Sicuramente!
Excellent, very personal and of course technically great by Pletnev. I love his and Cortot's the best.
Cortot's preludes are from another world. Gulda and Brendel were crazy about them.
Cortot's 1933-34 recordings are beyond belief, no comparison possible.

Когда я слушаю М.Плетнева,я целиком погружаюсь в его музыку и ни о чём больше не могу думать, наверное потому,что он сам полностью в музыке и ничего внешнего для него существует.Он очень большой музыкант( не хочу употреблять заезженное сейчас слово"великий").

Но он настолько глубоко чувствует музыку,что его игра не оставляет равнодушно слушателей.Плетнёв обладает блестящей техникой и хорошо владеет кантиленой.У него гибкая фразировка. На сегодня я считаю его музыкантом номер один.
Как-то была на концерте русской пианистки, не помню, к сожалению, как зовут, у неё катились слезы в конце второй части 7 сонаты Бетховена. Было явно видно что внутри неё очень яркий внутренний монолог, который отразился и на лице и в музыке. Исполнение было потрясающим.
Здорово, когда на сцене яркая индивидуальность, когда музыканты настолько по-разному и глубоко чувствуют музыку. Нашим на мой взгляд часто не хватает артистичности в исполнении. Пианистов не учат быть артистами.
Давайте не обобщать насчет японских и корейских. Есть как серьезные музыканты, так и клоуны и там, и там.
Я бы осмелился сказать, что Плетнев - гений. Его запись Карла Филиппа Эмануэля Баха - абсолютное чудо.

А мне как раз это не очень нравится )) Но то что он гений или почти гений - это точно. Он занят тем, чем занимались Гилельс, Рихтер, Микеланджели и т.д., и о чем эта современная китайско-корейская шелупонь понятия не имеет.

One of the most dark stoic interpretations that I have ever heard.
I've been searching for days now for a performance of the Prelude #17 where I remember that left-hand bass note being properly and spectacularly EMPHASIZED. Just finally found it: Of COURSE, it HAD to be Pletnev.....at 28:20.....Simply Magnificent, BRAVO!
It is indeed quite effective. I do think however, that it overbares the half step descending chord at 28:39. I mean that this little harmonic phrase can't be heard for all it's worth. I think you would be very touched by this very phrase played by Ivo Pogolerich who brings out this soft voice.
Pletnev's performance is stupendous.

Yes, they have to sound like the Notre Dame' Bells... Some would say Cartucha Monastary but this prelude was composed before Maiorca... Interestingly he uses the tonal middle pedal in it in order to do the theme non legato, just like he does in the beggining of the prelude.

He’s trying to fit all the crazy scales and arpeggios in a constant tempo, I prefer going fast and stopping/slowing left hand till right hand finishes though (Kissin, Argerich)

one of the last authentic musicians of "old" music. he is intelligent enough to understand that romantic music is supposed to be played with imagination, poetry and individuality, looking beyond the score. for him, the score is a starting point, and in this respect he is more modern than the dead museums of Pollini, Schiff and Perahia.

304712 L oh rubbish all those musicians are fantastic there's plenty of poetry in chopin regardless of who's playing all pletnev does with these is distort the music with abrupt ritardandos and plenty of rubato . He's an excellent pianist but does over egg the music at times thinking he's better than the composer which is obviously nonsense
I think he has right approach to this music. I greatly admire the three pianists you dismiss but I do think that Pletnev comes closer to the authentic Chopin than they do. Chopin wrote the score but you can’t expect him to indicate every single little nuance in the score. A pianist should be faithful to the written score but he mustn’t be limited to it.
I agree. I thought years ago Pltenev was mostly technique. Sometimes he is a bit slow to get things moving but it all works in the end. Anybody know why he's playing a Kawai???? They are not comparable to Steinways or even Yamahas. I did not find No. 16 especially dynamic and dramatic plus he muffed the top of the last run. Lol. No. 24 was a bit odd-spots were powerful while other had less focus. The LH just sort of rumbled around with no real clarity. I wasn't totally convinced by the ending. The final low D's just seemed like separate notes rather than having an inherent phrase driving to the end of the Prelude. When I saw Pogorelich play these live years ago, when he got to the final D's, he placed his RH on the top of the piano(above the keys) and leaned right into the keyboard(almost OVER it!) and banged the shit out of those last three notes and was practically standing while playing them! It was an awesome spectacle.

An appollonian rendition of a dionysian masterpiece. Splendid.
To tell the truth, I hear nothing appollonian in his playing . Most of time his sound is full of sombreness and even hopelessness. Listen to the D minor carefully.

@@Relatively_Irrelevant mate, Try Harder is referring to the fact that in Pletnev's rendition, he made the melody STAND OUT; super clear and not jumbled in the accompaniment. I don't know about you but for me, Pletnev's melody in the 1st prelude is the clearest I've ever heard out of all prelude renditions I've heard so far.
I can't understand why the more beautiful a concert is, the more people with severe tubercolosis you can find in the audience... :| please don't go to concerts if you are sick!

Few things about what you said:
a. Chopin couldn't go to a concert, since he was affected by tubercolosis
b. It's part of life; it was called "tosse" in an ancient language
c. People don't know about sickness when they buy the ticket weeks or months before a concert of Pletnev, who finally came to play in their town and won't come again
d. I heard that ABM interrupted a concert because of a cricket hidden in flowers (they had to remove all the flowers), but I never heard he did that because of caugths; so if He didn't do that, we can ignore that too ;)

Coughing and coffin are close together:) I find it also very disturbing, worst is that coughing is like a percussion instrument but it's always delivered from public at the worst possible moment

The Preludes pose a unique performance challenge beyond just the technical. How do you express this opus as one integral whole? Pletnev, Argerich and Fiorentino all have uniquely interpreted the Preludes as an opus as opposed to 24 discrete pieces.

The way he plays 24 with the left hand is so interesting. Most pianists use their 2nd or 3rd fingers as a pivot for that jump with their thumb and to return back again, but looks like he's just touching each of those 5 keys distinctly without pivoting and then moving back into position. Which is still really difficult if you've tried the left hand of prelude 24.
I think you’re right. He isn’t holding the pivot key for the whole quarter note duration as written, that’s for sure. His hands are big enough to skip all that, I guess. Easier on the wrist. But you need to pivot to get the “con slancio” feeling.
