That almost made up for him putting Reign of Cthulhu over Iberia! Great pick of Commissioned, too! We hunted that one down a few years ago after Sam's original review on The Dice Tower.

JT you're going to love Rise of Fenris. Takes Scythe and adds a cool story and new modes that mix it up. And when you're done you have some really interesting modules to play with.
2016 was another great years for games! My top four games for 2016 are all very close and likely swap places depending on my mood. Currently, they are: 1. Vinhos (Deluxe 2016 vintage) 2. Troyes 3. Scythe (only dropped to 3rd place because I've played it to death) 4. Inis After that, I like: 5. Cottage Garden (Indian Summer also came out in 2016 but I like the theme of Cottage Garden better. And it has cats.) 6. Flamme Rouge (As of 2024, I like Heat better, but this one is also good despite feeling slower and more like a bicycle workout than Heat) 7. Iberia (Reign of Cthulhu is also good, but I prefer Iberia) 8. Feast for Odin 9. Santorini (looking forward to the kickstarter edition and Riddle of the Sphinx expansion coming out in November-ish of this year) 10. Archer: Once You Go Blackmail... (this is Love Letter with the "Archer" animated series as the theme and I'm a fan of both - Sam is wrong about "Love Letter", it's a great filler game 😉) 2016 is also the year "Tanto Cuore: Oktoberfest" came out (which I happened to find at Krampus Kave in Leavenworth during Oktoberfest, so highly appropriate). It's a standalone "expansion" to the Tanto Cuore game which is an excellent deck builder provided you don't have a problem with the anime maids theme/artwork. Also, a little further off the beaten path, is 2016's "Unicornous Knights", which gets my vote for 2016's most humorous board game theme. Evil forces have overthrown the fantasy kingdom and the naive-but-headstrong princess is charging straight at the evil overlord to avenge her father and king. As royal advisors in charge of the princess's safety, players work together to clear the path to the palace of enemies so the princess can succeed. The anime art in this one is all ages.

I bought V-Commandos specifically because you always raved about it, Sam. :-) I was not disappointed. I went in on the latest Kickstarter for all of the other expansions, so it was annoying when it changed name. Now I need sleeves to make the two work together! lol
