  • A great performance by Spiritualized somewhere in the USA back in 1996 on tour as support for Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The camerawork is shaky, but inventive and shot by Caron Malcolm, our tour manager at the time (to be fair, I probably told her to shoot it that way!), but the sound quality is good, thanks to Max Bisgrove.
Line up at the time: Jason Pierce, Sean Cook, Damon Reece, Kate Radley and Mike Mooney.
    Roadie-ing by Slouch BSA.
    Set list:
    Cop Shoot Cop
    Desert
    Shine a Light
    Electric Mainline
    Come Together
    These Blues
    Enjoy!

This was Deer Creek in Indiana on August 28th, 1996!!! It was a helluva great show!!! I'm on the Lawn, just outside of the Camera's eye.

Holy fucking toast. This is a 1000% quality upgrade on anything I've heard from The 1996 Young support gigs and the few marathon length solo dates they did in the US in '96. All were - as this is - fucking flat out amazing. But you haven't heard Spiritualized live 'til you hear any of the solo 1996 gigs in full. One of my favourite Spiritualized bass player/drummer couplets (Damon Reece & Sean Cook), no flab at all in the songs and some truly spectacular moments of improvisational genius, like 'All Of My Thoughts' shifting at its usual live and studio fade-out (Sitting here, sipping wine, I'll get drunk but I'll be fine/Always good in summertime etc.) straight into a balls-to-the-wall 'Feels Like Goin' Home'. Cop Shoot Cop is always written on the setlists (which I still have) as "Cop Shoot Cop - Desert" (same song, 'twas just more a pronounced shift to the "The desert is...." section of Cop Shoot Cop.) It has killed me seeing the Spiritualized Reissue Programme without a single studio outtake, radio session or live gem, y'know, like every fucking band in history has done since ever, but stuff like this....priceless and unexpected. Thank you so much for posting, brother.

I was at this show, near the back of the shed, by the second post from the right. I don’t recall that Spiritualized was listed as an opener, just Jewel was advertised. I was grabbing a beer when they came on stage, and I rushed to my seat. I was blown away. I was not familiar with most of the songs, but was mesmerized. I remember their T-shirt for sale, but I purchased a NY& CH shirt, which I still wear. The crowd was indifferent for the most part, polite applauding for each tune. Most NY fans were not even in the venue yet. I feel fortunate to have been there. Saw them next year in Cincinnati, with Acetone opening. That show probably had about 100 people tops.

This is so exciting to see and hear.
Any footage of them from this time seems so special.
A group creating something special and lasting.
I'm a little shocked to see a fairly empty auditorium!
I like the footage of the sound/ lighting guys working away.
Gives a really good sense of the whole of the show not "just" the band!
    Thanks for upload

That looks like Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Upstate NY. I was there and had never heard of Spiritualized. My friend and I were transfixed. Amazing!

I think Spiritualized enjoyed supporting Neil Young almost as much as they enjoyed supporting Depeche Mode in '92.

Not from what I heard! Not that I was there, I must add, but they had a pretty hard time, as did Miranda Sex Garden, who replaced them when they left...
