- New Jersey’s high school boys basketball playoffs appeared to have a stunning upset with a game-winning buzzer-beater.
Until it didn’t.
Down by one to Camden High School with a shade under six seconds left in the state semifinals, Manasquan High School seemingly hit what appeared to be a game-winning shot with a put-back off the glass, setting off a wild celebration in Bayville on Tuesday night.
But not long after, the referees reversed the call and said the bucket actually came after the final buzzer, and instead, Camden, the state’s No. 2-ranked team on Max Preps, had held on for the 46-45 win in the Group 2 semis.

Where is our Governor? Telling the NJSIAA to make this change or your fired!!! Where is the superintendent of Camden High not stepping forward and showing his student athletes to do the right thing and decline to participate further when you clearly lost? Should be fired!!! As you see, the referees had no clue what to do!!! They should be fired and banned for life!

A travesty. The NJSIAA should step up and do something about the terrible officiating affecting outcomes of games.
So they should also go back in history and change every bad call that determined outcome of the games. It's sports and it has happened on the biggest stages. Remember in the Olympics when the US basketball team lost to Russia on a tip in after the buzzer?

Why have instant replay if you’re going to lie and cheat.
Now that I’m rewatching I see the black ref make the correct call, and he was the ref that was supposed to make the call, he was the trail ref on the right side of the court. Then another ref which was clearly the head ref comes in and changes his call. It wasn’t a huddle up to discuss anything. It was a huddle up for the head ref to tell the other two refs he’s changing it. The trail ref should have argued it and told him there would be repercussions to changing the call. That head ref will not be calling another playoff game as a head ref again most likely. Especially not this year.

I wonder if the referees were the same ones that totally blew the Red Bank Regional Championship game last Saturday! The incompetence and favoritism towards Freehold Boro was very evident. We even saw one of the referees actually hugging the Freehold players. The NJIAA has a credibility problem that they better fix! It’s so sad for the players

This is my first season reffing high school basketball in Ca. And even my first year rookie ass wouldn’t have missed that call unless I wanted the other team to win. And the fact they huddled up is ridiculous, that’s the trail guys call on the right and his only. No one else can see both the release and the clock. The fact they huddled up to change it is mind boggling. This is why high school refs get a bad reputation. I guarantee those guys will be ragged on by their peers for a long time. They’re experienced refs if they’re doing a semi-final game.

Manasquan = Class act, Camden= Not so much, feel bad for those Camden kids that won’t learn from their ignorant coach and go thru life thinking they actually won by coaxing on the refs at the end, poor sportsmanship. Manasquan is the true champion of that semifinal game.

Ref under basket has no “last shot” responsibilities. The ref counting the basket has primary “last shot” responsibilities. He can only be reversed if the designated “in- charge” ref corrects an obvious error. Unfortunately it looks like the other outside ref was the “in-charge” ref and “corrected” an obviously correct call. He should never see a playoff game again unless he is buying a ticket.
I’m a white guy and at first glance thought this was some racist bull, but after watching couple times. #2 traveled like a mf before the long 3 pt shot. So if that was the call I get it. 💯
But if they called the 2nd shot after the buzzer, then that my friend is affirmative action basketball 😂💯

The fact that the right call was made first, then overturned (obviously wrongly) shows someone ‘decided’ this without having a better view than the ref who correctly made the call. Never underestimate ego deciding this….seen it too many times in bad referees.
