Welcome to the first part of what is going to be another EPIC journey!
There is quite a bit of background to this one.
I put a notice out on a local community page on Facebook offering my services free of charge. As you can imagine this received a lot of attention, so I spent quite a bit of time visiting people's yards and learning about their stories. In an ideal world, I would have loved to help them all but unfortunately that's not something I can do...yet.
The neighbour of this property reached out to me and told me that the lady living here had just moved in a matter of a week or two ago and was in desperate need of help. The landlord was living in this place originally but had just received some very bad news about a family member being unwell so he moved in with this family member to be with them. The landlord of this property is a friend of the tenant and offered her cheap rent if she was able to get the house in order.
When I made my way through the yard, I could tell the owner was a massive hoarder, as you will see, and the inside of the house is apparently as bad as the outside!
So this is where I come in. This will be a TOTAL garden makeover. Not just lawns, not just path reveals, but getting the entire garden back to a beautiful and manageable state for the new tenant. The only part I won't be able to do is removal of the hard rubbish as it belongs to the owner and I don't know what he wants to keep/sell/get rid of.
I hope you enjoy this one, I have had a great time cleaning this up so far and I look forward to visiting this property each week moving forward, I hope you can come along with me on this journey!!!

Oooooooooooh ... I am salivating at the thought of another mega-multi-part series, Ryan! The three you did last year were outstanding ... and I still pine for a continuation of the "Decades of Growth" series!! Speaking of George at Quick Cuts, don't miss his latest episode (3-9-24). I think he qualifies for sainthood for tackling what had to have been a horrid, foul smelling disaster where the garbage had to be removed by the shovelful. Hopefully you won't have that problem on this property. Am especially looking forward to all the pruning and tree-work that needs doing. Thanks for yet another delightful video!
Unfortunately the Decades of Growth series won't be continuing due to travel issues and a disagreement with the owner.
Much appreciated the way you stay in one place and film one section at a time. Makes it more enjoyable to see the progress along the way. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing how you transform this lawn, back into something that gives the neighourhood pride of community.

Because hoarding is an illness, they don’t see it that way. Regardless if they need it’s an attachment, even garbage thats literally garbage.

It is now known that hoarding is a mental condition and not the “fault” of the person.
I love watching these makeovers because I'm at an age where I can do minimal outside work any more but love watching other people's work.

Quite a big task ahead of you, good to hear you’re gonna do it a few hours a day, cause this is a lot of dragging and pulling and shoveling for one man. I can imagine the lady must be so relieved she’s got help with the eyesore of a garden/ dumpster.
Great job! You did your best on that big gnarly shrub in the front yard, but really its only saving grace is that it helps hide the junk on the patio. I hope the tenant clears off that patio first thing, because it's blocking the front door, which is a fire hazard (and one of the indicators of Stage 5 hoarding). I'm surprised this house hasn't been given a citation yet. Once the junk is cleared, the hideous shrub can come down. The tenant's gonna need a lot of skips/dumpsters.

Happy to see you partnering with the renter. She can concentrate on the inside with minimal worry about the yard. Hopefully at some point the landlord will give her the go ahead to get rid of the stuff that’s outside. Looking forward to the cleanup and creating livable space for her and the dog. 🫶

We never know what is going with people so it's best not to judge them.
It's hard to understand why/how a landlord would allow this place to get to the situation either from his issues or a tenant it's mind blowing to me.
I really believe it's a mental health issue or maybe just lazy but I hope these people get the help they need to stop doing this 😢. So many people need help it seems like.

I really enjoy watching the yard transformations. I watch several CZcams channels from Australia on yardwork as well as the USA.
I help people with what I can in their yards and do my own yardwork as well. The equipment for me as a female can be heavy and the work in general is back breaking but I really enjoy it and I feel good helping people.
Yardwork is not fun for everyone lol, and alot of people can't do it physically or not being able to pay someone to do it for various reasons that happen in life to people in my experience. Sometimes people just don't care about things as well and mentally have issues I have found in some people with the hoarding stuff that we see like this yard and the one in Quick Cuts as well.
I can only hope someone will help me in my time of need as well. I love Australia and alot of good people there!

As with George from ‘Quick Cuts’ I love the work you do. I am at a loss to understand how the local council permits anyone in suburbia to accumulate this amount of ‘junk’. If we were to curt down a tree or plant shrubs on the footpath all hell would break free. Secondly one would think the tenants would move cars and bikes to give you a free rein. At least the back yard is not full of the junk as in the carport. I take my hat off to you and love your work. ❤

Frankston has their fair share of slum lords. Cheap rent but no investment to repair or maintain the property for the resident. I hope this ladies rental experience goes better than I am expecting it to become

Wow 😯 what a series this will be.
Wow, that's some job, Ryan! I do so love your work ethic and how hard you try to make people's properties look even halfway decent. Sometimes, you've just got to accept that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, though it's not from lack of trying with you! You must bring such relief and pleasure to those poor people who've become overwhelmed and/or can no longer physically manage their gardens. I also love how you do so much more than a quick mow and basic tidy up, such as clearing the weeds and grass from around the bases of plants, and often even taking their rubbish to the tip. I have to admit that I really don't like the (often American, unfortunately, though I've got nothing against their ways of doing things) services that 'just' mow, do a quick edging and leave all the detritus where it is. There's probably a reason why they don't pick up the clippings, etc, but it's so much nicer seeing the end result of your efforts. Wish I could afford to support you with cash too, but i hope this comment makes you (and the YT algorithm!) happy!
I appreciate you commenting, it all helps. As far as helping this lady, the fact that she is really making an effort with the inside of the house shows me she has pride and gives me more motivation than ever!
Love, love, love George of Quick Cuts!!! He is phenomenal!! On this one, the only way to clean up this property is to haul away all the crap and garbage that is on the property. I wonder how this arrangement will work out for the renter and I don't think very highly of the landlord. I think he offered the lower rent as a bait and switch. He gets the property somewhat cleaned up without him taking any responsibility for the horrible mess HE created. And at the end of it, will he evict the tenant when it is cleaned up so he can take the property back?? Also, will he cause problems for the tenant if she gets rid of or cleaned up something he did not want removed. Tricky situation and one where the renter does not appear to have a very strong hand.
It could be a challenging situation but my understanding is that the tenant and the landlord are friends so he will look out for her.

Unlike George, and luckily for the wildlife and insects and the home owner, you leave things standing in the garden. Its good to see you take the time to tidy things up and not simply remove bushes.
Sometimes removing all together is beneficial for a garden but not in this case. Definitely looks better with a trim.

Storage units are expensive; however, perhaps the tenant can save enough to buy a shed to put all the 'hard' stuff in and at least clear it out of the house & yard. I'm so happy that you're helping this woman. Trying to straighten out the house must be daunting enough. Dealing with the yards, without the tools & expertise, would be unimaginably hard.

That's one of the worst yards I've ever seen. The front yard looks great. I'm sure when your finished with the back the place will look like a different piece of property.

A quick fix to improve the look in the front would be for her to install some lattice to hide the patio where the old car is. Maybe suggest this to her. I don't think it would be too costly for her to implement.

Great work, as always. But what is it about people's inability to dispose of old tires? It's a head-scratcher for sure.
Unfortunately it costs anywhere from $20 - $40 per tyre depending on where you go.

Please wear a mask when mowing in the dusty areas. This job will be satisfying to see each part cleared. Everyone will have a place to enjoy in the secluded back yard eventually.
