Thanks for the shout out .... oh wait...what?
No worries, man - as long as people are seeing that there are different options to setting up their filters it's all good.
Best of luck with the channel and feel free to ring me any time.
Clear as day video, well presented and simple step by step guide. Looking forward to the next one
Thanks Phil! Lots to come and the TANK room nearly ready 💪🏼
I’ve just bought the new FX2. I set it all up with the media that came with the filter, and after a few days of running, wondered why my aquarium wasn’t clearing. Having just watched your video I changed the filter media, and after a few hours oh my f#@king god, what a difference already. Cheers top man 🤙🏼
Amazing! Thank you for creating this video, it’s been really helpful! I’ve been doing my research and looking into getting myself a fluval filter 😄
Definitely worth getting and especially upgrading!
Thank you for the video really did help a lot and done the upgrade on my fx4 made a good difference
We’ve just upgraded to the fx4, really helpful video, thanks x
FX6 is definitely the best filter ever.
Amazing video. Thank you!
Agreed as far as canisters go!
You and Pond Guru have excellent tips.
Great video, like the idea of customising the media inside them.
Thank you Mark!
Great video mate! Always great advice.
Thanks Ethan!
Great video, very informative & useful.
Thanks Craig!
Loving that you’ve got the content going bud, great to see the business going from strength to strength! 👍🏻
Thanks Steve! Hope the tank and discus are still doing well!?
@@TANK-TV yes all good here mate, just a broken syphon on the fluval so thought I’d better give the comp a shot 😂
@@Steve101181 will be drawn end of this month so good luck!
Good upgrades, thanks
Superb mate, good to see Tank becoming the fish man of the people! Right in my "baaasket!" 🐠🐟😄

Great Video Thanks for sharing!
Awesome dude, learned some great stuff offyour channel
Thanks Arran and glad it’s all helping 💪🏼
Excellent Video!
Great video, thanks for the top advice
No problem Philip!
Awesome video! Setting up an FX4 for my new 75g and thought the included media was a little sparse, even as a first time canister owner. I'll be setting these upgrades up on my first filter change after the tank cycles and I choose what fish to add in, in about 3-6 months.
thanks for the filter tips
Thanks man this helped me a million
Thank you 🙏. Quality content
Thank you! 💪🏼
Great video mate! Keep them coming 😁 🐟 🐠
Thanks Sam!
Would love to add this to my tank, looks like an awesome bit of kit
They really are good filters but need the upgrades to be great!
Quality video as always and informative as always as well !!!!
I’ve just got my new tank and am currently running a small fluval 306 which defo needs upgrading , the fx6 would be a dream to have and would run perfectly with the tank …… let hope 😄👍🤜
Thanks Kern!
Another cracking video mate as always. As you know I'm on a sump but I cannot recommend the Countryside C3 resins. Done wonders for my water!!! Thanks for recommend from Tank, should of introduced this sooner!
Thanks Paul!
Amazing help thank you love it
Thanks Jay!
New sub. your tank looks amazing
Thank you! It’s just been closed down to change over to a reef! 🤗
Great Video!
Thanks REx!
Fx6 for the win - beast of a unit 💪
Great filters and even better with the upgrades 💪🏼
Well done demonstration
Thank you! 💪🏼
I have one of these on my birthday list as everyone I speak to says they are awesome
Good luck Philip!
nice to see a nice new shiny fx filter , i get mine used since they are so expensive
So much better than my current ahaha I will have to look into them even more
Definitely worth looking into but do need the upgrades really.
If you use fine mesh on outside with coarse inside you're gonna get clogged up real quick. Fine will stop everything making the coarse redundant. Should be other way round so any big particles clog first then finer particles are caught by the finer meshing.
Coarse is on outside ur arse about mate😂
@@Born2late1469 The guy said 'fine sponge on the outside' for some reason, that's why the confusion. Also you can get a lot more than 3kg of media in the FX6.
Great video as always mate👍 highly recommend Ben for any work, simple explanations and nothing is too much trouble!
Eheim pipework is a good upgrade, as I found the ribbed hose on the 407 used to get absolutely gross and catch all sorts!
Thanks Martyn. Yeah I have removed the ribbed pipe on the 240 and just used 22mm flexi pipe.
How did you bend that over onto the intake & outlet?
It’s the newer Fluval Roma 240 with plumbing from bulk heads in the base of the tank so just had to be placed over the stepped hose.
@@chrisdowzall8023 on the 407 I used the Eheim shepherd crook style fittings. 👍 that was on a Roma 200 which doesn’t have bulkheads.
Liked, subscribed.... And you have come a long way from your video for the Stendker competition a few years back.... 🤣
😂😂 thank you!
Great video
Thanks Steve!
Thanks for help on setup mate! , liked subscribed and commented!
Thank you Shaun and no problem!

@@TANK-TV cheers mate
Thanks very much. Great informative video. Would love to see a total setup video incorporating the use of canister filter in a planted aquarium similar to your sump tank explanation set up video if possible too?
One for the future definitely!
(my other channel) Well done for giving the filter away - that is highly commendable since 99% of channels take everything and give nothing back.
You're obviously a decent guy.
Sound advice mate! Only had Eheim external filters in the past, seeing everyone using the FX6’s for their bigger tanks though, upgrading to a 5ft tank in the coming months - the FX6 could be the filter for the job 👀😅
Would defo do it for you 😂
My top filter tip is to put a layer of stiff foam underneath them. Really good for reducing noise.
Nice vid!
Yeah great tip to lower the vibration noise 💪🏼
FX6 Easily the best canisters out there!
Great video! Cheers
Thanks Marc!
With my current canister filter I put a pre filter on the input which helps catch the big piece of debris first.
Good luck. 👍
Great tip! 💪🏼
I don’t have an Fx filter yet but will def think of adding maybe alfagrog in the media baskets as opposed to the bio max that comes with it. Great video well informative too 👍👍
Yeah it’s a shame and they should know that the media they supply is not enough biological filtration for the water volume they claim the filters can do. Yes if you had only a handful of fish but not if fully stocked 🤦🏻♂️
@@TANK-TV I block the name but i hhave a lot of what is called k-ness filter wheels.. they sort of resemble ships steering wheels .. but are broad .. would these work?
Loving the pink scissors to cut the foam 👌🤣
Coral 😆
Best Canister filter on the market before a sump 👌🏻
Agreed!
Great video, I've just gotten into the hobby and bought a new fx 2 for my 300 litre tank, is the upgrade the same as I have a ton of white foam bubbles on top of tje surface when my 2 air stones are on, thanks
Great filter, would love to win this filter as I’ve already got a tank waiting.
Good luck everyone👍
Good luck Ramita!
Gotta be In it to win it, shout out from littlehampton 🙌
Waaaaay just down the road 💪🏼
Great mods
Thanks Darren! Anyone would find these very effective!
Hi m8 I'm thinking of this set up for my 350 liter fancy goldfish tank as there very messy and I like the water change bit of filler wood u recommend how often do u change the hole filter cracking video thanks
Thanks for the vid will be doing this tomorrow. What light do you use in your discus tank please?
Hay, Kessil A360X Tune Blues with the wifi dongle.
My Fluval 307, which I've had since 2011, died after a power outage today. I've ordered an FX4, which will arrive tomorrow. This video is tremendously useful! I've ordered the media for upgrading the filter, though I'll transfer the ceramic bio media from my old filter to the new one. If I were in the UK, I would have used your links, but I'm in the US and anyway, some links are no longer valid. Again, thank you for this video.
Question my buddy told me this awhile back and it really never stood out til now but on the bottom of the canister FX4-6 there’s a lot of open space where the baskets set it would be under those but not touching them he put in ceramic O’ rings for grabbing more of the bad stuff then it cycles as normal . Just curious if anyone else has done this . Great video man
Nice clear instructions. I’ve recently set up 2 of these on my tank and they’re great once upgraded. Why do you put filter floss on top of both trays though? Hasn’t it done it’s job after tray one and taking up more bio media space in the bottom trays?
I would always place it on every tray as the 10/15mm floss isn’t going to take up much room anyway but then gives an extra fine tune. I know water travels down from the top so the top basket floss should deal with it but the baskets are not water tight so water will manage to skip the first basket maybe even the 2nd so means every tray is fine tuning the water. You will usually find the middle and bottom tray floss has picked up a lot more waste etc then the top tray floss.
I just added mine to a roma with biohome media lets see i may even add the spray bar also
I have a 250 g freshwater with 4 koi fish. I have a 36 gallon sump with a powerful pump but I have an fx4 running also bc the sump socks get dirty too quick and have to clean them every day.any tips, tricks? I was considering upgrading to an fx6
Do you know the PPI of the course, fine, and medium filter foams you recommend? Good video. I keep looking for someone who will show how the hose guides connect to the tank. In theory, they seem great. However, the plastic does not seem flexible enough to go over my rimmed tank. I'm scared the tank will break with the amount of force I am going to have to exert, and it is only an Aqueon 65 gallon.
You will usually be looking between 5 to 10. In my sumps as an example that can deal with even a finer foam I will use 35 and 45 PPI but that’s because I know my return pump can deal with the PPI restriction. I wouldn’t go that fine in a canister filter though.
No the hose brackets wouldn’t go over a brace of a tank as are design to hang on a pain of glass so usually the tanks are made with gaps in the corner to get the pipework through. You may need to look at some U shaped hose clips big enough to mount both the tank glass and bracing.
I run an FX6 already but I got it second hand and would love to run one that I can actually trust :-)
Got to be in it to win it 💪🏼
I have the FX4 on a 125 Gallon that has been setup for about three weeks so far. I really like your suggestions on the upgrades and I have ordered the stuff I need! One question I have is about the media. Should I change from what it came with? I was looking at the Fluval Bio-FX to replace the existing but unsure if that’s the way to go.
I can't find the c3 resin I believe they stopped making it what others would you recommend please
It would be interesting to find out the output flow of this filter with all the new and extra foam added.
You can see the loss of flow in the manual based on outlet hight but also those figures are with no media 🙄. Definitely would be interesting to find out though with the upgrades in.
Do you put the intake and out on the same side as each other? I’ve got a 75 gallon tank and not sure where to place them and my wave maker for African cichlids
I picked up some media for my fx 4 its a little smaller diameter media than what came with it would it be ok to mix thise and use it?
Hello from Canada. Great info. Is this filter good for a 75 to a 120 gallon or is it a little large for them. I will have Discus and tetras. And what is the product for mutates removal. Last tank I had was back in 1984 to ‘90. Things have changed. Thanks JACK
I think it might be overkill for a 75, but if you got the money. I think it would be awesome on a 120. I run a 200 gallon with a sunsun and a FX6 works flawlessly. Do you mean nitrates removal? If so, canisters will not remove nitrates. Water changes are the best , most economical method.
Great! I hope I win one of these!
Good luck Danny!
What setting on the dial on top of lid do you use ?
14:33 does the hosing need to be cut exactly to fit? Does hosing length affect water flow?
Tks bud
I'm just getting over surgery, I'm finding it a struggle working with cannister filters.i have been interested in the FX 4 or 6 for a while just because of the drainage valve , don't want to quit the hobby.can you or anyone reading advice which is the quieter 4 or the 6 , would much appreciate any feedback cheers GR8 video
I remember my first canister filter setup was the fx6 I made the mistake of not putting the white rubber over the nozzle and I turned it on and water started coming out. Don't think I could moved that fast shutting off the power
Is the Fluval fx4 a good filter for a 75 gallon bow front saltwater tank?
Not enough for a 75G. Minimum 1 FX6
Which one would be great for a turtle? I have a 75 gallon tank.
So far I have the fluval 407 canister. I don't think it's big enough.
Hello.
500 liter aquarium, would you choose 407 or fx4?
(my other channel) Just to confirm, the FX4 will easily hold 3kg of media and the FX6 will easily hold 5kg of media. Assuming that you're using proper media (e.g. Biohome Ultimate) that makes the FX4 suitable for a normally stocked tank of up to 300 litres and the FX6 suitable for a normally stocked tank of up to 500 litres (if you expect to achieve a full cycle 0,0,0 in a natural set up with no expensive chemical media.
Great video and your video explaining how you setup sumps is spotless , everyone who sees it ( most everyone ) has to feel like they won something!!!! L🌚L
I am just wondering if you have any thoughts on EHEIM'S pre filter ? I have enough plants to make it past the judges in the IAPLC 🤔 Using a fairly course foam on all intakes for years but curious if you think it would be worth a go . Looking forward see your new fishroom and best of luck w/ growing your business ! I used to be a house painter for my Father who ran his business and loved it & the old Norwegian knew people skills to pay the bills🇧🇻 taught me everything I now use in my job as a golf caddy he was right when he taught me this " when Mom's are happy , everyone is happy " so make them all happy 💚💙
I’m a big fan of pre filters, run them with floss or 35ppi sponge and your water would be crystal 😍
I know you made this video a couple years back. The Countryside C3 resin and nitrate removers are no longer available. What would your comparable upgrade recommendation be for the FX4? Thank you in advance.
The nitrate and ammonia 'pods' from Resin Products would be a good substitute.
As far as I've heard the C3 breached some sort of patent but the RP resins work very well.
So if I did these upgrade to a existing tank, how would I put the upgrades in without harming the fish?
Ciao! I write from Italy. Congratulations on your video! I have a question: is it enough to buy a single pack (1 set) of fine and coarse sponge to replace the stock ones?
Hi Mirko,
Thank you!
Depends on the size you are buying as the packs of 3 sponges come in 3 different sizes.
@@TANK-TV Set 25-Inch X 18-Inch
Sorry Mirko the late response. For both the fx4 and 6 you will need 2 packs.
There's enough room at the bottom of the cannister that you can add a course bio medium that way the water gets filtered before it even travels up the putter rings
Hi mate how can I fit the fx4 on to my fluval Roma 240 with it having different pipe size thanks
Hay Lee,
Get yourself some 25mm flexi hose and 4 jubilee clips.
Soak the end of the hose in kettle boiled water as will soften it up to stretch over the fx connectors and the Roma bulk heads.
Don’t forget to put jubilee clips on the hose first ;)
@@TANK-TV that's brilliant cheers keep up the u tube videos there fantastic
@@leetatters578 thanks Lee! Feedback like that means a lot!
How much in inches do you need for the fine sponge for the out side of filler iv just brought 11 inch by 16 inch will that me enough?
For 2 baskets or 3?
@@TANK-TV thank buddy i got my delivery fx4 today but guess what first try was missing the bio foam
@@TANK-TV
I orded the blue and green foam today so should be arrive my Friday hopefully and il follow your steps
Could you send link for c3 resin
Hello, do you do the bottom tray the same as the top tray?
If and it’s a big IF, you keep the motivation to get into all baskets just to change the floss etc yeah run all baskets the same.
And yes the upgraded sponges being used are the same in both the 4 and 6 all baskets.
Thanks
How do I know where I need to cut the pipe?
What size tank you have?
Why would you put the fine sponge before the coarse sponge? It seems backwards
Yeah
I may be wrong, but i think he correctly put them but was confused trying to explain it. I think the blue is coarser than the green one.
I may be wrong and no hate to the content creator
You are right they are the right way and just explained backwards 🤦🏻♂️
Would you put the coarse on the outside and the fine on the inside. You want the coarse to get the larger items and the fine of course for the smaller. Putting fine on the outside would just clog up with both large and small particles and the coarse will be useless.
The only thing I disliked about this filter is the ribbed tubing
You forgot to tell them about the ring seal that goes around the top to prevent leaks
It’s already installed on the lid out the box 🤷🏻♂️
Mentioned it at about 8:18
Fine is smaller ppi. Coarse is larger. Doh. I put a kilo of matrix in top cage.
I understand why you substitute course sponges on sides, but I do not understand why you use 2 different kinds in one basket. Water will hit either one or another (most likely more course due to less resistance). What’s the purpose of putting more course sponge closer to the center (there is no centrifuge effect created)?
Why don’t you put in each of side baskets just one kind of sponge?
Water will still travel from outside to in so this just reduces blockage time frame as the larger bits are caught in the smaller ppi sponge not blocking it as much then then the higher ppi sponge catches the smaller bits.
Agreed one sponge would be just as useful but after I went over to just a thicker 35ppi sponge in a discus tank it was blocking so often and effecting flow 🤦🏻♂️
Jubilee Clips? In America we just call those "Hose Clamps"
We do to mate
have u been watching the pond guru 🤔
Have seen the videos yes…. I don’t think no one hasn’t 😂
But this is nothing new and sumps and ponds have been filtered this way for years prior to canister filters coming out hents the sponges needed have always been available in the pond section in fish stores.
As it’s always been done find the flow of the water and tune it at each stage with a higher ppi
@@TANK-TV
yes.. ive done it myself great idea whoever thought of it though 👍
I clean my canister filter every 3 weeks
Is your tank heavily stocked?
@@TANK-TV Yes
@@gureenamatharooor heavily stocked, it’s best to clean your canister every week minimum
Instead of k1 media, would bio balls be as good
