  • Welcome to Travel Adventures Australia. In this video, I discover more about the ups and downs of Van Life. I leave Childers, I enjoy the beauty of Woodgate Beach, I battle the elements and the tranquillity of Kilcoy and Somerset Dam.
For a more detailed account of this part of my journey please visit my website read my blog. Thank you for watching Day 3 & 4 of the “Is Van Life for Me” series.

    Childers
Childers is a lovely Queensland town on the Bruce Highway. It is a great place to stay for a few days or just as a stopover where you can relax, shop or maybe have a beautiful meal and cool drink at the local watering hole. Childers has a star on my map as a place I will use a lot on my travels.
Located right behind the shopping area, you will find the dog friendly Free Camp Sites 1 and 2. Campsite 1 has more facilities, but it is a parking area for longer vehicles. Campsite 2 is a grassy area and has no facilities. This area is more suitable for smaller vehicles or if you would pop out the awing and chairs and relax.

    Woodgate Beach
30 min drive (39km) from Childers is the dog friendly Woodgate Beach. I first visited the hidden gem Woodgate Beach in 2017 and fell in love with the natural beauty of the beach. The Esplanade is maintained, clean and tidy and I enjoyed staying there for the morning until those storms that were offshore rolled in. Woodgate has grown, only slightly since 2017 adding another means of accommodation at the northern end of the esplanade. Woodgate Beach is a Day Area, and the closest Free Camp Area is Childers.

    Kilcoy
Kilcoy Rest Area, what a surprising, lovely dog friendly spot. Located just off the main road & close to the sports ground, I found this area to be quiet, this might change depending off the day. There is shops and other facilities close by. If you are fit, the shops, including an IGA, would be within walking distance, if you have mobility issues, maybe pop in the before you set up camp. There is also camping at the show grands for a small fee.

    Somerset Dam
The picturesque day areas of Somerset Dam are a beautiful place to stop for a quick cuppa, for the day or for water sports. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed at or in Somerset Dam, so I will be unable to visit again when I travel with my pets. Please see link below re pets at SEQ Dams
