Do I need WiFi to use this device?

Hi, Sack! Thanks for your question! The Tap and Chip Card Reader will connect to your Shopify POS App hosting device via bluetooth, so you don't need WiFi to connect the reader to your POS App running device! However, the device hosting the Shopify POS App should be connected to the internet so you can sync your POS App with your Shopify Store, as well as use all of Shopify POS' feature suite. We have a help document here, shopify.link/7qLb, that outlines why having an internet connection for your POS setup is important, and what sort of functionality isn't possible without an internet connection.

Yes that's correct! You can sync your POS Tap & Chip Card Reader with your store using cellular data for internet. The Shopify POS system requires an internet connection to process transactions and sync data with your Shopify store. While a Wi-Fi connection is commonly used, cellular data can also be used as long as you have a stable and reliable connection.
