  • This is an excerpt of our Conversations with Modern Stoicism event. What are the Good Emotions and how do we cultivate them as Stoics? This is the question presented by Brittany Polat.
Conversations is a new style of event. We bring the Modern Stoicism community together to talk to each other. There is a short presentation, group Q&A, and then we split into small groups to discuss questions and personal practice.

    Book List
These books were recommended as potential pre-reading for the event:
    1. "Stoicism and the Art of Happiness" by Donald Robertson, specifically Chapter 5. This book offers a fantastic overview of Stoicism, with Chapter 5 dedicated to exploring happiness and the concept of positive emotions. It's an excellent primer for the ideas we'll be exploring in our conversation.
    2. "Stoicism and Emotion" by Margaret Graver. This is a scholarly work, better suited for individuals well-versed in Stoic philosophy. If you fall into that category, I highly recommend this book. It's essential reading for dedicated Stoics and provides in-depth insights into the realm of positive emotions.
