An issue I had with my 4066r was that the exterior mirrors were difficult to see out of because the pillars for the cab kept blocking my vision. You had to constantly look around the pillar to see out of the mirror. After further investigation, I realized the brackets were installed incorrectly. I swapped the brackets from side to side and now you can see out of them perfectly. If the mirror bracket that bolts on the cab pillar is angled towards the front of the tractor, they were installed incorrectly. They need to be angled towards the back of the tractor. Even though this is just a few degrees it makes all the difference in the world. Hope this helps somebody.
Small correction... Kubota does offer a mid PTO option on all Grand L tractors. However, they do not offer a belly mower. The mid PTO is used with a Kubota proprietary front hitch that supports blades, brooms, and snow blowers (driven off the mid PTO). The front hitch can also be purchased with an "auto hitch" option that lets you attach/detach the Kubota only front implements from the operators station, including the PTO and hydraulic connections. To be clear, the front hitch and front hitch implements are very expensive options more intended for commercial operators. Or lottery winners. 😉

I've had my 4066R (w/ cab) for four years, and love its features, power, and versatility. Implements include 440R MSL, pallet forks, & box blade. I know you've called backhoes "overrated," but i have used my 485A extensively (more than the FEL), saving my back on many an occasion. I truly can get it on or off the machine in only 10-15 minutes (practice helps). Looking forward to purchase of a flail mower next spring.
Already got one at work with the factory cab.
Absolutely brilliant to use and love all the features , hitch assist , self levelling bucket , air ride seat , quick hitch for trailers.
Auto throttle is also great for driving about.
Only thing we don't like is it's very noisy both inside the cab and outside if you're running the likes of a chipper on the PTO.
The Fwd/Rev toggle on the fender is an awesome feature. Especially for those larger implements that you cannot "persuade" to line up with the hitch.
What's next, Blutooth remote control functions from your smart phone? 😉

I have an older 4 series (2004). Been a great machine but some of the newer features look very attractive like the self leveling bucket and nudge button for hooking up attachments.
I’m tractor shopping right now and priced out a new 3039r and 4044r and once I added the hydraulics for a third function/grapple the price difference was only $2800.
That is pretty compelling considering the extra load capacity, and the hitch assist.
I’ve been binge watching your videos for months researching what I wanted to buy.

I want one. I have a 4052 without the cab and i love it. I also have a 100hp JD. A 4066 is perfect for me in most of my ranch use. Ill keep the other two but I will probably use the 4066 more than the others. The hydrostatic transmission is the best thing to me.
I have a 4066R and love it, the worst thing i hate about it is the fuel tank fill location, its a pain, i finally bought a fuel pump to fill mine.
Great mentioning about trailer load capacities when stepping up to these size units. Some people just are not aware of it and overload a trailer really quick.

I've had my 4044m since 2018 new off the lot for my business. I upgraded from a 3025E. The 4 series is the perfect all purpose tractor that you can probably keep for a lifetime. It's great for anywhere from 2 acres up to 20. Best probably for that 3-7 acre property. I logged 300 hours on it my first year. No major issues other than damage caused from working the machine here in these north Florida/south Georgia swamps. A cab is a no go for me, too many limbs and trees ready to kill all my glass and wallet lol. Absolute beast of a machine. Would love to have more pto power but the 44 does fine for me. I have a video of it doing some root raking on my channel of interested.
Those who know JD, understand the "investment" and knowing they will last a lifetime if taken care of.
I know what you mean. I have a 1986 JD 2350 that I love. No leaks, doesn’t use any oil between oil changes. It’s not seen more than a handful of nights outdoors and I follow all maintenance schedules. It has a self-leveling 245 FEL that is a beast. It has more than 6000 hrs on it and still doesn’t miss a beat. Amazing power and with loaded ag tires it still amazes me with its pulling power. You are right. They can be a lifetime investment if you don’t abuse em.

I have a 4720 with the power pac to run my broom and snowblower it works ok on the power pac is super tippy. We had a lot of problems with the front end with breaking axel hubs do to the broom and lifting these tractors are not going to stand up lifting 2000lb load
I am ok with no mid PTO. I would use a snow pusher. I would like wheel spacers! But I have heard, it seems like the 4066 is “under-powered”. What that means according to this particular tractor, I don’t know... Just hear say.
Up here in NH I would want a cab, -4 last night when I got home. Lots of things you have to consider! I would have to look at the power reverser option. Makes my head hurt thinking about all the options/prices between manufacturers...

There are options for front 3pt and PTO for the 4066r. Check out a company called Zuidberg. I thought I saw another brand also but can't remember the name.
love my 2019 4066r ,loved it so much i bought 2014 3520 cab with 72 belly mower so can mow grass with air condition ,boy was it worth 24k used when payed off ill buy 3046r next to upgrade with loader as wish 3520 had loader

Love my 4066R. Living on the west side of the Big Island of Hawaii I cut a lot of cane grass and I am never on level ground. This tractor powers through it and gives me confidence to travel on at least a 25* slope sideways. Aloha.
We are in the same situation with regard to slope, with our farm being in the Green Mountains in Vermont. We liquid ballasted both our front and rear tires and added 220 lbs to each rear wheel. I am curious if you have done anything similar.
@@PeterHonig. I also have 200lbs per each wheel. I also added wheel spacers. I did not however ballast the tires. I prefer static weight on the wheels rather than dynamic. There are a lot of rocks around and I bounce all over. The tractor gets a work out but it takes it like a champ.
@@gillpecceuservices You are a braver man than I am, taking the slopes sideways. My fear is dropping my downhill wheel into a fox/groundhog/rabbit hole and rolling all the way down the slope (we have at least 50% grade which equates to about 27 degrees like your situation). As such, I traverse my pastures either directly up and down or at an oblique angle.
@@PeterHonig. there have been moment of sideways major pucker. I wheelie the tractor a lot going up hills using my brush hog. I do have 1000lbs of counterweight in the front since I dont have a loader. I mow between coffee tree rows and they are unfortunately not up and down hill. I used to do the same with a JD 2032R and this machine gives me way more confidence. Aloha.
When shopping for one of these in the spring, my dealer steered me away from the 4044R to the 4052R by pointing out the additional horsepower draw that the air conditioner takes up! Non cab tractors need not worry about this.
Every time I hear that statement, my follow up is did you ask the dealer why John Deere would design a tractor that wouldn't perform with its standard features. And, if it was a design flaw, then why would they continue to build it 6 years after releasing the model? I don't get it. Either there's a problem that should be fixed, there isn't a problem, or John Deere is a subpar company for selling equipment that won't properly function.
I almost bought a 4066R from you but ended up going for a new one. I can't say enough good things about it! The only major flaw is the windshield wipers. No delay wiper on the front and the back one just plain sucks... I would 100% recommend one and already talked a buddy into buying one!

@@simrandhaliwal8195 Back in 2020 I paid this $ 51,495.00 for the tractor with cab and a ton of options (This is not your average 4066R it has way more goodies than most, around 8600 in addons.), $ 7,620.00 for 440R Loader (MSL) with 72" Skid Steer Bucket, 9,986.00 for the 485A Backhoe, 899.00 for the Heavy Duty Pallet Forks (48"). Total of 70K with zero percent financing!

Was really looking hard at your previous 4066 it was loaded with features, which is what I want, just wasn't ready to pull the trigger. Still looking to either buy new if I don't find another with all the options or used next spring.

No I do not own a 4 series tractor I just bought a 6140M John Deer the back tires are over 6 foot tall and I love it. 24 gears forward 24 gears reverse and top speed 24 mph so select the best gear for the job. I just ordered 8 foot wide rock grapple global 1. I can change from my 8 foot bucket to the 8 foot grapple quick attach and sift out the rocks. I have a lot of rock about 1000 yards or more. Love my tractor. I may drive it to Church Easter Sunday lol. ( Hunt Easter eggs ) 👍 💕 😎

Small correction... Deere does offer an MSL option on the 300E FEL. However, and this makes no sense to me, they do not (yet?) offer the MSL option on the higher spec 300R or 320R FELs. 🤷♂️

There are times when I do wish I had an enclosed cab; not so much in the winter (just gotta dress for it) as in the summer, mainly for protection from bees and skeeters. But when I see my buddy already replaced three glass doors on his cab it makes me wonder given how much work I do in brushy areas. They all have their pros and cons.
I have a 2020 4066R with the hydraulic power pack. Wasn't cheap, but useful so I can run my bobcat attachments on the tractor (i.e. snowblower, brush cutter, etc).
I'm in Australia. We don't have the 44 or the 52. Instead we have a 49 and then we have the 66. I couldn't stretch the sign off from the financial controller to a cab or to the 4066. So went with a 4049M. Got mine delivered a few weeks ago now. We've got 21 acres. So far I am blown away by what it can do and don't foresee any issues with amount of power or it being too big or too small for our property. The three series felt a bit small and a bit unstable for what I wanted to tackle and a five series was just too big. Plus the wife loves the hydro transmission. She's already driven it a few times. As other comments say. There's the perfect tractor for every property and application. Thanks for a great video Courtney 🙂
1025R and 2025R are available with factory cab, but it’s heat only, no AC
Waiting for your review of those R14 tires. 'Course, you probably haven't had time to try them in multiple situations and conditions yet, especially in deep snow.

Also 4 series is the only & smallest tractor in this class that has a planetary final drive. The other brands use spur gear. This is a hidden value most don’t realize exists with the current 4 series.

I have owned a 4710 and now a 4720, the 4710 loader was not self leveling, the 4720 is, if I would do it over I would have got the 4720 without the self leveling loader, there are certain situations where you need to roll the bucket back raised up in the air which you cannot do with the loader I have, it’s a give and take, also I thought about adding a mid pto on my 4720 when it was ordered, but kinda pointless since the belly mower is only 72” and with my wheel spacing I use I pull a 84” finish mower and it just covers the rear tire width, I have R4 tires which are okay but slide a lot mower on hillsides in western PA, those new tires look pretty good compromise but not available with my rim size yet I don’t think? 17.5/24

I believe when you are getting away from a mid-mount mower, you are now getting into a real tractor and not a lawn tractor. The creep feature on the back of the tractor is something else for helping hook up implements. My wife made a comment of saying someone could steal the tractor with that but I said It would take them a couple of days. lol.
Interesting choice, here am looking at the 4052M "heavy duty" or the 5055E with cab, I am surprised you don't go with "Heavy Duty" this time.

Does anyone here have any experience with the horsepower boosting firmware offered by Ekotuning and Allcar Tuning for the 4066R? They have two versions that can supposedly increase your horsepower from 66 to 86 or from 66 to 95 for which they are charging a whopping $1500 each! I am toying with the idea because some of our pastures are a 50% grade, but I don't want to do anything that is detrimental to my machine. It is also pretty darn expensive and I'm not sure if it is worth it. Any thoughts?
Modifying your horsepower from what the John Deere engineers had in mind is a bad idea. If your looking for long term reliability and plan on keeping it I wouldn't touch a thing. My two cents...

had the self leveling bucket function on my JD110 TLB, absolutely hated it. Removed the linkage bar.
I'm just curious what you didn't like about it. I can see how it would get in the way if you use your machine for construction type work. We have it on our 4066R and it makes a huge difference when using pallet forks for loading and unloading shipping freight.
@@PeterHonig. might be a little hard to explain but while moving long brush/ tree branches with the grapple i can curl back the load which tends to raise up the sagging ends which makes it easier to get thru gates. With the bucket leveling still functioning the sagging ends would drag across the gates and fencing. Also when using the bucket and forks sometimes you just need to be able to curl it back while it's raised up, auto leveling won't let you do that.

The main thing you pay for is the weight/size. The other benefits are not much of an increase from even a larger 25hp tractor.

I realize the JD Four Series 4052 and 4066M Heavy Duties were released in 2020. Due to the implications of Covid on JD Supply Chain they were difficult to find last year. When you look at how they are equipped, they seemingly are a hybrid between M and R Options that are included.
Could you do a review on an HD when you get one. Thanks much!
I have a 4052M HD on order. It has many fine features that are found on the R tractors, including some that are not EVEN found on the R series. I wish I had more YT content to watch on the 4M HD series while I wait for mine to arrive.

@@eddevarona8448 I'm not sure that applies in every case when it comes to compact tractors. In most cases, the name on the hood is not the manufacturer of the components and seldom even the assembler of the tractor.

Before we bought our 4066R, we had a 3033R with mid PTO and mid-mount mower deck. It was one of the biggest mistakes I had made. A mid mower deck is great if you have a golf course or large lawn, but we are a dairy farm with steep uneven pastures where the mid-mount mower would bottom out when it hit a rabbit or fox hole and would grind over boulders that protruded even slightly. Also the side discharge created rows of rotting grass. We quickly replaced the deck with a hydraulic side-shift flail mower that is much more appropriate for our commercial farm. We sold off the 3033R at a great price and got the 4066R which is far more stable on our steep slopes and packs a lot more horsepower for tillage and hay baling. The loader bucket is also much larger so we can muck out our livestock stalls with fewer rides to the muck pile.

Great video. I have a 4052R. I've always wanted wider front R4's. The 4M HD series offer those standard. My question is since they're a bit taller, will they work as far gear ratios with the 4 wheel drive engaged? I don't want to change my 16.9 rears to the 19.5L's. I like what I have and they're tall enough
You need to keep the ratio very close to what it is now. 1-2% over run for the front (front tires turn faster than the rear), and probably no more than 5% otherwise you risk damaging the driveline somewhere as the axles will be constantly fighting each other.

@@blyz_69 There is only two possible ways. If we assume the tractor physically didn't change then the only thing they can change is the rear tire size to coincide with the front. The only other option would be a gearing change within the axles. I'm not up to speed on the option but the way it sounds from your first post is they changed the rear tire size as well?

I am a new subscriber. Question. When you did a comparison of the smaller versions of kabota vs JD , it seemed that you preferred the kabota better. But at this larger version you like the JD?
It's a toss up for me on which I like better in this comparison. I found a 4066r setup the right way, so went that route.

I just got a 4066r with cab and can't stand how loud it is! We have had Kubota in the past and tried something new, I wish we had gone with Kubota again. 4066r is just way to loud in the cab and feels very cheaply built.

@@johnkovac4436 Compared to our Kubota it sounds like I'm sitting next to a jet engine... I'm curious if maybe it isn't a defect in the tractor or what it is. But every last bit of the engine noise comes straight up the center console and into the cab... I've also found the plastic in the cab to be very brittle and cheap compared to Kubota... We bought the machine because we got such an amazing deal on it, but we will more then likely trade it in for a Kubota soon...
i can tell you they been making that motor in compact for over 20yrs so very bullit proof and very powerful at 66hp and has helped transform my farm as always push my tractor beyond its limits and very reliable only thing wore out was tie rods and tie rod bar but covered under warrenty so very happy
only loud untill motor warms up but still quiet in my cab so i enjoy cell conversation and radio playing

Hi Eric, we went through the same decision process about a year and a half ago and chose the 4066R. First of all, a friend of mine who is a JD salesman, told me that the "E" tractors have a bolted frame instead of a stronger single solid frame. He told me that if I was considering a 5 series to look at the "M" models. The only two advantages that I see in the 5 series over the 4 is that it is a larger tractor with larger diameter wheels and has the option for a passenger seat in the cab (which I would only use on rare occasions). Remember that the extra weight in the 5 will rob you of horsepower that you would otherwise have in the 4. The 4066R comes standard with hydrostatic transmission (not available on the 5) that makes it convenient for my daughter and grandson to operate. The hydrostatic transmission lets you creep along for long periods of time at a snail's pace without burning out the clutch as you would with a power reverser. The 4066R has all the bells and whistles for comfort that you would not get on the 5065E.
Our dairy farm has some pretty steep sloping pastures where stability is key, so we wound up getting a 4066R with cab, mechanical self-leveling loader, heavy duty bucket, 3rd function SCV joystick controlled with both front and rear couplers, front and rear ballasted R4 tires, and extra rear wheel weights (220 lbs each side). This tractor meets all our needs and if we would ever need to get an additional tractor, it would surely be another one of the same.

I would love to have an electronic joystick on the armrest of my 4066R, but I strongly suspect that JD won't ever offer it because they rather have you buy a bigger more expensive machine. As for the bucket disconnect, you could get a Skid-steer interface and control that hydraulically and perhaps even electrically via a third-party offering (though I am not 100% sure).
My problem with JD is that I can’t figure out where they’re made. I know the 5 series is made in India. The 1-4 series have Japanese Yanmar engines. I believe the loaders are built in Mexico. And I assume some of the chassis and higher end Ag tractors are built in the USA. Best I can tell, JD compact tractors are global amalgamations with parts sourced all over the globe. Some MF’s are rebranded Japanese Iseki’s. At least with Kubota and Yanmar I know that one Japanese company builds the entire machine including the engine. Same with Kioti which is a rebranded Daedong from Korea. I like knowing where my stuff comes from and it’s tough to know with JD.

yes; Heavy Duty (HD); offers a 4052M and 4066M.
For me the Kubota L6060 is better. Throttle, lever up and and down/pto is all on the right side. John Deere needs to change throttle by steering wheel

You are right, these are great tractors but they cost the same as a 5 series. Considering this, does it make sense to buy the 4 series? Just asking.
yep as long as you get 4066r as with more hp is way to go and lighter weight then 5r

Yes, I explain the old series, the 4x20 Series was available with mid PTO. It is no longer available. I even made a video specifically about a cab 4720 with loader and mower that I had a few months ago.
@@GoodWorksTractors yes my Model has a mid pto and an extra front pto so I have 1000 rpm in front 2000 rpm middle and 540/750 rpm rear pto. So I can al three attachments run at the same time and shut them off or on separately. It’s a great tractor only the speed from just 16 miles is way to slow! Greetings from Germany , Paul

$35,000 and up for a toy tractor with no mid pto or mower or front snowblower and used or 100 horse and up tractor used for a quarter or half the cost of the cost hmm I'll go with a real tractor. You can buy used older Steiger cougers and panthers with silage bledes for half the cost and move mountains and more snow and dirt in a foot than these toys can move in an hour grant it the toys have there place with home owners but also does an old ferguson or small old farm tractors but as an actual farmer price isn't justifiable for the small tractors when you can buy a hundred or more horse tractor and put a 5 or 6 bottom plow behind it and go turn 1000 or more acres.
There is a correct size tractor for every application. Sure if you have a 1000 acre agricultural farm where multi-row tillage is your primary concern, you would definitely want a significantly larger tractor. We are a 25 acre Vermont licensed commercial dairy goat farm and creamery in the Green Mountains. Our 4066R is the perfect sized tractor for driving into our barn and mucking out our stalls. It also has a short enough wheelbase to make small radius turns at the top and bottom of our steep pastures (some 50% grade) where there is a narrow flat roll-out and the extra weights along with ballasted tires makes this a great "hill hugger". This tractor is NOT A TOY! The tractors that you propose would roll over and tumble their way down our pastures at the first turn they would attempt if they were on our land. Like I said, there is a correct size tractor for every application.

@@Shredxcam22 I just got a 1466 with around 4000 original hours and a New Holland 316 discbine for $10,000 off my neighbor who just sold his cows and retiring after 64 years. And you can say the price on sub compact and compact tractors are inflated way over inflated. You can litterally buy a good decent John deere 7400, 8400 or 4850 or even a 4955 or 2 older steiger cougars or panthers for the price of one of these no frills toy tractors. It make no sense. I'm in upstate NY in the hills we have been in the dairy farm for generations and our smallest tractor is a farmall H still working and running ever day and our largest tractor is a 450hp John 9520 that only gets used 4 weeks a year during planting to pull a set of 24ft discs and a DMI and a 12 row zone builder and 12 row planter and our 450hp tractor cost us less than most of these toys costs we bought the 9520 for $34,900 2 years ago the tractor was cheap but the implements were very expensive but you can buy horsepower cheaper than most of these toys. We stay right away from them only toy we have around our farm is a kubota bx25 and the only reason we have that is because I bought it dirt cheap with a bucket,backhoe, mower,and snowblower it had a blown motor and I gave $1500 for it spent $800 on a used motor and my kids and wife play with it in the yard.
@@Shredxcam22 You have to have the equipment to do the job and today in farming there is no money with milk prices that we had back in the 80s and the cost of everything else going up 100% either you learn how to make do with what you have or you do some wheeling and dealing with the old stuff on the farm you don't use that is what we been doing to get what we need to stay in operation or you are owned by banks and government. We have no payments on any of our equipment or tractors it is hard to jusify $30,000 to $60,000 on a tractor that isn't trully useful or that we can do the same work and job with a tractor that's a quarter to half the cost. And another thing these new toy tractors and even the large farm tractors today are throw aways you can't work on them and the parts and crap for them are expensive our neighbors got a brand new John deere combine this year almost a million dollars with the heads and all the electronics they had nothing but issues with John Deere guy was there just about every day with the thing tore apart as we picked our 1500 acres with 2 old Massey ferguson combines from the 80s and we were done before them by almost 2 weeks and they are only doing like 800 acres of corn and they bought this big shiny new 8r series John Deere tractor they have had nothing but turbo problems and EGR problems and costed them almost 10 grand for some exhaust filter on it. Our most expensive filter on the whole farm is 100 bucks and that is on our vacuum pump for milking. They are dealing with def fluid and everything else over on the neighbors farm in their tractors we have 3 tanks on our farm a diesel tank, a tank of 15/40 engine oil and a tank of hydraulic oil and a few pails of gear oils while their shop looks like some mad scientist's lab with all the stuff they need for their shiny new million dollar toys but they have everything on credit and loans and we wonder everyday how they do it they have no cows they grow 800 acres of corn burn this huge grain drier and sell to the same places we do not many options in our neck of the woods to sell to so they have to just be floating because with our milk and grain sales we just break even if no major repairs or expenses we make a little extra to put back into our farm but if we were paying what they want for all this new equipment and tractors we'd be closed and some housing development would be going in on our farm.
@@Shredxcam22 All us marketed tractors today can no longer be repaired by owner or farmer even some lawn tractors the electric on a lot of new stuff and sensors are just ridiculous they have you trapped with overpricing the machines to begin with then they hammer you on the cost of parts and the hammer you again with the cost of service to install the parts all ag equipment is like that with all the crap today not just john deere our 12 row planter had all kinds of precision planting electronic crap on it when we got it, it all ended up in boxes packed away on shelves in the shop we took a $60,000 2017 12 row john deere planter and turn it back to 80s-90s technology with nothing but seed monitors and flow meters for the liquid fertilizer we planted with 2 double row 4 row john deere planters for years and wanted to update and get away from the double row corn because starting next year we are gonna be planting 3100 acres but we could not find a single newer 12 row planter that was just simple good reliable technology they were all loaded with stuff not needed to put a seed in the ground at a set depth and being vacuum seed singlation is much better than finger or plate planters so all you need is a monitor to tell you that you are dropping seed you dont need 15 tv screens in a tractor to tell you that you are putting seed in ground. We stick with the older tractors because they are simple easy to fix and parts are relatively cheap, our favorite tractors are the older Steigers we have they have an 855 Cummins 8LL trans and Rockwell drop boxes and front and rear diffs all parts easily sourced from truck yards and they are pretty much bullet proof in design our oldest one is pushing 19,000 hours and never been apart or not worked a day in it's life it started out as a snowplow tractor in Quebec Canada had a big vplow and 2 wings on it when we got it. After leaving canada it ended up at Newburgh airport plowing runways then it ended up at a private airport in Hunter NY and then we ended up with and took the wings off and put a straight plow on the front and use it to push and pack silage bunks and push dirt and shale and plow snow it is almost 50 yrs old and still runs like a fine swiss watch, I want to see where all this new junk will be in 50 years.
