Most helpful teaching advice about migrating online that I've seen all month.
Thanks! Let me know if there are any other topics you want me to cover.
Michael Wesch is it possible for you to cover how to make things interesting when you HAVE synchronous classes? The videos are great, but how do I keep my students paying attention when I’m lecturing in one spot?
I started balling at the Gloria Gaynor instrumental to the playing with the application transition. What a powerful story about learning about learning. I will share this video far and wide. And, yes, I've fed the Robot Overlord. Thank you for the inspiration!
You deserve SO much more recognition! Thank you for simply being inspiring!
You are great!! Thank you for sharing all this!!!
Well done Michael Wesch! Never stop learning!
Awesome! Keep going!
The morph transition was awesome! I'm going to practice this. Thanks! 😄
You are amazing man. Such a well put together video. I'm glad I get to have you as a professor through CZcams!
Thanks!
Michael, your channel should have a million subs. Fantastic! A remarkable contribution. And yes, ppt or Keynote are a simple, easy, familiar way for most educators to design graphics for their videos. Thanks so much for your wonderful channel. Awesome!
Loved it! Thank you so much!
Fabulous, Mike! 🙌 Thanks!
Thanks for being here. Always great to see you in the comment stream.
Thank you, your video just gave me the extra push I needed to explore making videos for my students. I will be watching all your tutorials!
Admirable! kudos to you sr.
Amazing amazing amazing!!! You’re helping me so much!!!
Love it, Mike!!!! Thank you for doing this. Videos are soooooo much better than lectures.
Thanks! Great to see you here. My university might have a soft opening soon so I can go get a copy of my book for you.
@@mwesch That would be great!
Thank you, we've just been discussing this, that our students are ahead of us and possibly a lot smarter. :) You've pulled the strings together really well and showed us how to do it.
Glad it was helpful! The pace of innovation on CZcams is astounding.
Thanks so much for this, your videos are really inspiring. There’s so much to learn
Super helpful. Thank you!
Thank you, Michael, for your generosity! for your inspiring and enlightening video-series on preparing for teaching in the fall! I have learned so much and tried some of your ideas out. My college had a Zoom PD session the other day about Hy-Flex teaching and I was promoting your video-series where ever I could! Some of my colleagues have already watched the videos and thanked me for the shared links! By the way, we met at the edMedia conference in Colorado! You planned to write a book "The End of Wonder in the Age of Whatever" I guess you wrote, "The Art of Being Human" instead.
I just completed a course in teaching using technology where I was introduced to your methodologies. I have been a follower every since.
I was just about to ask my professor how to find new applications for presentations and videos when you popped into my view. I am so excited!
Thanks for posting this awesome lecture. I learned a lot from your video on how to make a better online lecture! If you can post some more videos on how to engage students and the techniques you used, that would be great!
Great piece! KEEP IT UP!
Thanks! I'll do my best. It's super fun to create.
My jaw literally dropped when you got to Garage Band. It was so cool unto itself, but it served the point you were making so seamlessly & made the whole video
I love this comment. Is there a chef's kiss emoji? If not we should design one.
Dr. Mike, great video. It's the bonus track to the awesome talk you shared with us last week at Miami Dade College. Thanks
Thanks! That was super fun. You have some great faculty!
I just wanted to say that your videos are incredible. I was so lost as to how to begin but you videos have gotten me excited and inspired all praise to God. Thank you God and may God bless your family
this is good stuff man
That ending comment "Please feed the robot" - seriously, genius. I had just clicked the like button right before that. Wish they offered us a +1 for "extra like".
Thanks for this great video, amongst so many wonderful videos on your channel. I've experimented with making videos for my students for a while, but have just gone public on CZcams. I'm enjoying learning more about creating engaging educational content on CZcams, and I know I will return to this video as I continue along my journey.
Thank you so much! I believe that we are drawn to purposeful perspectives and meaningful connections. And that is exactly what I sense from your videos. I will like to learn more about the process of how to create significant proposals for the students to put what they have experienced from the video into a project or challenge.
Great idea! I will plan on doing a video on authentic challenges/assignments sometime in June.
@@mwesch Life is a miracle! Grateful 💖
Amazing video!
Thanks!
I'm not even teaching this semester and I still find these videos inspiring me to make some content. Keep it coming Prof.
Awesome. Good luck! Creating is so much fun, even if it doesn't turn out as planned.
Very nice and helpful....
Seriously great video Professor Mike. 100% retention from me. Really well put together and I genuinely had no idea you could do nice animations in PowerPoint! 🙂
Thanks! You are an inspiration. I watch everything you do.
This is great! Loved the XY breakdown.
Thanks! Did you see the previous one? There was a special guest star in it. :-)
@@mwesch yes I did! 🙂 This such a cool series!
How in hell this video has only 8k views? I mean, really. I just saved this video in so many different places so I don’t ever forget to come back here for reference. Clear, objective and insightful. Thanks for putting this together! Thank to the AlGODrithm for showing me this.
I've just discovered your terrific videos -- well done! I'm curious about how you edited the clips from CZcams and other sources into your class videos . . . I thought if you didn't own the CZcams video you couldn't use it in another video or download it. Any tips?
Such great tips. Thank you! Do you have a screen recorder you prefer?
I use screencast-o-matic. It works perfectly fine, but I am sure there are others that can do the job just as well. Bandicam is getting popular.
Mike, back to the ebuytoy tribe!! This time for distance education.
Haha! Great to hear from you.
Thank you for these amazing videos. I'm a classroom teacher being forced by the pandemic to learn online teaching tools on the fly, but watching your videos make me excited and inspired about the potentials of online teaching. Two questions:
1. What, exactly, does the initial graph represent? (How are the figures measured?)
2. How did the graph change after you implemented the various changes?
The opening graph shows what percentage of viewers keep viewing the video over time. So while almost 90% were watching the first 2 minutes, onloy 50% watched the rest. But since many students watched the video twice, it was actually the case that most students watched the full video and some went back and watched the Intro again. My realization was that the Intro was especially engaging, so I started making all of my videos more like the Intro and less like the rest.
@@mwesch Thanks, appreciate the explanation. I've been recommending your video to so many people in the past few weeks!
At the end of the video, where ads join, the volume of the music sounded a little bit high to me. Just to note that...
Michael Wesch! Thank you! I watched this video earlier today as a part of the ACUE lesson Making Engaging Course Videos Without Being on Camera -- and am making my husband watch it with me at home. Now, can you add a couple of hours to each day so I have time to experiment with making some great videos?
but what if they watch the video more than once? sometimes i watch the first minute to get an idea then go back later and finish it..... my two attempts will still show up in your chart. that drop could just be first week first time curiosity? and later everyone finished the video.
As a linguistic anthropologist--cum-CZcamsr, I'm really glad to have found your channel and these videos! A lot of your points on this video and the super simple episode are really helpful. Excited to follow along and see how your tips can apply to language teaching. Do you follow any specific eduTubers that you really like for language learning?
I am actually planning on doing a video on how to learn languages - more from a learner side rather than a teacher side. Some of my favorite language teachers (I have been learning Thai and Vietnamese) include Vietglish Fun, Learn Vietnamese with SVFF, and ThaiwithMod. I like how the last 2 especially do scenarios and real conversation that I can slow down, repeat, etc. as I start to pick up on the language. I also take tips for language immersion from people like Phúc Mập Vlog. I also really like the advice about learning languages from this documentary czcams.com/video/illApgaLgGA/video.html
@@mwesch Awesome! Thanks for the leads. Looking forward to your language learning video in the meantime!
Hi Michael, thank you for the awesome video. Can you tell us what software or app did you use to create the moving slide outline? Thanks
Hi Sarah, I only used PowerPoint and DaVinci Resolve throughout this video. If you give me a time code I can try to explain how I did a specific part.
Thank you for your quick reply. For instance, @6.55 the animation of your powerpoint pops up.
@@sarahzhang5936 I just used ScreenCast-O-Matic to record my screen while I made the PowerPoint slide and then sped it up about 10-20X in DaVinci Resolve. If you are using Resolve, right-click and look for "retime controls." Once they are activated you can change the clip speed by dragging the end of the clip forwards or backward.
Wow amazing sir... Hope one me, I'm also same up...
Good lord, I wish I found you earlier.
Is this the future of my little 7yr old cousin?
CZcams can be an amazing place to learn, but I also worry about my boys and screen addiction.
