DIY Reclaimed Brick Walkway Around the Workshop

- I reused some old bricks salvaged from other areas of the backyard to build a pathway that connects the barn door and side door. No more stepping through dirt and mud! This was my first time working with any kind of paver, and with the exception of a few hiccups, it went really well. Now that the workshop construction is done, I'm going to work on the rest of the backyard. This is just the beginning. Enjoy!

Take a guess as to how many individual pieces of brick make up this walkway! I'll like your comment if you're within 25 bricks
458 bricks?
446
At least 256
750
435 bricks
Before putting down sand, you really need a crushed gravel base. That will keep them from sinking over time
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection czcams.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
I love how your " supervisor" does his job. Loving the walkway.
You do great work what kind of work your doing! This place will be a show home with the improvements you are doing!!!
Great job Kid , keep up the Great work everything is coming along awesome.
Another skill added to your list! Nice work!

Like the look of the brick. Great job.
Great Job with the bricks your the man Ben..
I love that your "foreman" is inspecting your work as you go!
Looks really good Ben!👍
Doofie is that 3 year old kid who follows their mom into the bathroom and asks “whatcha doin?” 😂😂
Nice work. Bravo 👏👏thanks for the clip
Looks great! Rock (or brick) on Mr. Tardif.

Greetings from Poland! I'm big fan of your work :)

Well done. I enjoyed watching.
Your a very smart guy in many ways!!!
great video and nice commenting - was easy to follow your work-flow. and the results look great!
Doing a great job!
No one going to mention just how much work that looks like? My back would hurt for a week doing something like this.
Man i love the fact you post your mistakes or bloopers i suppose. Keep those up.
Great videos. Thank you
You did a great job, and kudos for "re-purposing" those old bricks. If I were to give you any advise at all it would be this, "wear eye protection" when pounding in those plastic spikes and hammering on the bricks! Be safe.
Thank you for the video
Imperfection?! You call this imperfection?!?! What is perfection then!
Looks great
Nice work brother.
Great job ,
Good work 👍
Bro it looks beautiful
Cheers Dude, Keep it up
That was quite a job!
Your technical difficulties are really funny... the shoe lace seemed to be the last straw. LOL
Good job young man!!
Great job
2:44 Technical Issues LUL XD
The path looks awesome! I hope the Yard will become realy cosy. You are realy inspiring!
Hi i like how brick walkway turned out
I can't wait to see you put the grass
Good job
And keep up the good work 👍🏻👏🏻
Always, always, 90 degree angles.....never more, never less....why we love watching Ben's projects. He's so doggone 😉 (literally) precise! Recycling is a good thing. 👊👍💪😍
Beautiful..
Even though it's annoying, but it was so cute when your dog ran over the sand :D
Corgi!!! great vid
2:46 i was so waiting for this!!! lol
Haha! I follow Ben on Instagram so I’ve already seen this! Great video as always!
In Europe we lay sand with addition of cement to glue the bricks and make it stick and harder to wash away by rains. Also we compact sand with cement to make sure it wont move on its own. But california probably dont have as much rain and problems coming with that :)
Nice
I am going to guess just over 200 bricks, maybe 225?
It looks good, I am enjoying seeing the progress of your space.
I am a big fan of repurposing materials.
I’m learning so much! Awesome video
That broken shoelace spoke to all of us who've dealt with building issues; like what else is going to go wrong? lol
Love dogs🐾🤗🐾🤗
Why didn’t the concrete just go all the way around?
Exactly what I was thinking.
could be money?
@@Bewefau While I do appreciate the work, and the video content of it + the re-purposing of the bricks, that is still a pretty small pathway.. It would have been very little effort of the people pouring concrete to frame out that area for a walkway and cant imagine it being a whole lot more added to total cost.
Nice job! I see you’re properly social distanced and fully mask compliant too!
Great video ! Any up date on it ?
Was the brick walkway always planned? I was wondering this whole time why you didn't have the concrete just poured all the way around...
Hi! So I'm an audio engineer by trade, I saw your video making the sound proof room to do voiceovers in! My bit of advice would be that sound proofing and sound treatment are two different things. Your current voiceovers sound a little boxy, so maybe add more things in that room that will deaden the room sound. Great videos!
BUSTED OUT LAUGHING AT 2:45
Idk if it would work but after you finish I would put floor polish so it can look skinny idk but I will try this soon... with the help of your video
Nice....what’s the name of the bucket of sand that you bought to prevent weeds?
Nice job! Cutting 45 on brick is not easy!
444 and how does one break a shoelace 🤣🤣🤣 you also deserve more subs
❤️❤️❤️
I live in an area with ice and freezing. I found I have to touch up with new polymer sand every year, if not weeds do creep in.
Best all round handyman in the world...and you did not hammer your thumb in the "technical difficulties"! (I know what that feels like!) I am too busy trying to figure out the time frame of all the other projects you did in that area based on your previous videos, so I have concluded that this brick laying in this video is confusing me! Can't guesstimate the number of bricks therefore. But you can still "like" my comment! (Makes an otherwise crappy day feel not so crappy.)
PVC pipe is not UV resistant and will shatter over a couple years, causing your to have to dig up your brick work. Gravel fines should also be laid down and compacted before sand. A good video on how to lay bricks is provided by This Old House, search for it.
How did you find the capped pipe, do you talk about that in a video?
Make sure you insulate that hose-bib before winter, or you are going to have a BIG mess!
5:07 I honestly think it cuts like butter, butter is hard to cut
Just a piece of advice to make the installation got faster. lay all the pavers excluding the cut pavers, then once all the bricks are laid, just cut away and lay them. then you can measure more than one at a time and cut a few in one go.
2:43 is it okay to use any kind of sand?
Looks great, guess about 300 bricks
How big is your whole compound?
I know this is. 2 year old video but What exact poly sand did you use?
My guess is 121 bricks were uses on the walkway, is that correct?
remember what I said last time you for that problem of washing them you can make a doggie wash system kinda like a carwash system and put I were the walk out of the mud run for more detail I replied to your reply to me! :P
Is anyone going to tell him that those bricks are going to settle like crazy because he didn't compact the sand
I was gonna ask if I missed him compacting, or he just didn't film it. I am so glad someone else mentioned it first :) Still, it looks great! I just knew the dogs would run through the sand! My dogs did the same thing when I poured the concrete for my first water storage tank. It was hard enough, but you could see their little(great danes) paw outlines :)
he should have used something what we call here "stabilisé"
It's 1 part cement to 8 parts sand and very litle water
@@sparky5543 he said that prior to putting in the building they already compacted the ground so he thinks it should be fine.
@@Bewefau The ground, yes, but we are talking about the sand he added. Its hard to tell just how thick the sand is, but even a few inches, and it will settle some. It may not make any difference in the end, which is what I hope :)
@@mHBulldog exactly. I assume you're belgian :) He could also use porfier if it's not to thick, but stabilisé would have been the best option
To keep your wood steaks from splitting cut the corners off. Catching a corner is what causes them to split.
Loving these videos Ben! The bricks look great! Keep it up
You put the pipe clamp after you finish laying the bricks
Hahahahahahahahaha.........cue the dog 🤣
How is it perfectly level if there's a grade?🤫
I take it that it doesn’t freeze where you live
Keep doing work ! Looks so good and I enjoy watching it
Big mistake to lock that four leg inspection during work. That would look beter if he helped. Great work
325?
Ben, the office you built yourself has no ventilation, your air is going to run out, you have to breathe it.
220
And a year after the non stomped sand you used have shrinked and the bricks are now looking like a bumpy road??? Would suggest to use only a max ½ inch sand and 5 - 10 inch of gravel underneath.
Sand is to fine a material and will deform over time.. within years..
I love your videos you give me so many ideas when it comes to building, you helped me when it came to building and helping me learn new things so thank you
Should of used a base of gravel. That’s a lot of sand. Night shift and move with that much sand. You should only have an inch of sand.

for woodworking plan .
450 bricks?

where is the brick from ?
Salvaged from elsewhere in my backyard
REALLY love everything about this walkway and EVERYTHING about this entire project. The new building is WONDERFUL!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
