      Not sure that it is. That's a horrid and extreme fringe activity and there are many millions more users of pornography. If you were right then countries where porn is illegal / banned or have extreme penalties for usage would have much less of a problem and that's the exact opposite of what we find. The difference nowadays is porns ubiquity and social acceptance. I mean I don't think it's a very healthy medium all round for either producers or consumers but it absolutely is the bete noire of USA American conservo- evangelicals as it's something you can point to that appeals to something they consider a sinful vice despite wrecking much of the world with their aggressive violence. So I'm claiming hypocracy here.
      I'd say study the history of the industry. I mean porn used to be shown in the US as a fundraiser in colleges and fraternal orders etc.
      What you're saying is akin to blaming rape on sex. Again I emphasise I'm not a fan of the fact pron exists but it's far too much of a reach to say that horrible crimes are encouraged by it. And there's little to no evidence.

      Anything profitable is considered "empowering" and for many women that seems to always involve trading sex for cash. Not sure how exactly that's empowering, but many seem to believe it is and I won't impose my feelings on anyone.
      We can at the very least acknowledge that onlyfans provides one of the safest environments for sex workers so there's that, but then again I guess that also encourages even more women to become sex workers. And yes, selling explicit content such nude photos/videos and yourself engaging in sexual acts IS sex work.

    • @antoniastan7580
      @antoniastan7580 Před 3 lety +88

      I agree. Reducing the stigma around sex work and sex workers doesn't mean promoting it as an empowering way to make a living. It is just work, not a fantasy. And oftentimes the work is dangerous and exploitative, as many other jobs are. Not to mention that porn is also harmful to its consumers. "Empowerment" is just a selling point.

      There’s the one with Dallas Bryce Howard that turned into reality in China just about a year ago with the star/point system for people. In that episode, people are assigned points as sort of review on their behavior (like you would an Uber driver) and the lower the points in their personal profile (which is online for all to see the moment they get close to someone or walk into a place) the worse choices they have in life and less places they are allowed in. To the point that they can’t get cars rented, buy houses or go into restaurants and people isolated them. Like credit score, but worse because it includes personality and behavior even if the ‘review’ is one sided.

      Why are women only considered vulnerable in such situations? I understand that the male may typically assume a dominant role in such relationships, however the woman wilfully attracted that man into their life to benefit from this kind of transaction financially. It’s usually an arrangement by which both parties use each other in their respective ways. The element of victimisation can arise from structural circumstances, such as the need for money. Although I personally think it is naive to generalise dynamics across such relationships.

Without question, there are women (many will be young) who are exploited in such relationships. Dr grande has actually covered this topic once before in which he discusses mental health consequences for the “baby”, so to speak. I think at the end of the day, Young people seeking such relationships should approach them with rationale and respect for the other party, and seek the same qualities in that person being sought. The whole thing is really tricky . A lot might say “ porn is free “ but if users are paying for attention and the feeling of being ‘special’ I get it . A lot of the world stereotypes us men that we just want sex . While sex is a factor it’s definitely not the only one.
    Take strip clubs for example ; in my opinion you’re paying for the attention , not just to see naked girls. It’s nice having girls come up to you for a change, and want to talk to you, sure it’s fake but it still feels good . Only fans is like an online strip club. The danger occurs when you can’t separate the fantasy from reality .

Porn addiction is a topic none of the "content creators" want to hear but in reality men ( and women) get addicted and it ruins lives! My mom divorced my dad because he was so addicted to porn. I even remember opening his closest and coming across a VERY LARGE box FULL OF PORN. Dude was hooked and probably still is to this day. And often it starts at a young age. Sex is promoted all over social media and its getting easier to access. Instead of young men going out and socializing with women young men will have full blown (IMAGINARY) Relationships with these E-girls. The girls know it's real but men Know they're paying because they can't get it in real life.

The more dirty the better and it hurts more than helps because if you don’t do what they say they will unsubscribe the next month. Ex’s or other people that hate you for some reason can stalk you and get ahold of your photos and while it’s illegal to show your photos online without you knowing, 50% of the time you won’t even know it’s happening til it’s too late. Even tho the person gets arrested/sued, by then everyone you know has already seen your photos blackmailed across the galaxy. There’s days when I want to make another one even tho I went through all this not because I totally want to, but because it’s so addicting. It’s addicting to get the attention from more than 40 people a day. My attention seeking is trapping me. I have a boyfriend and he loves me I know he does, but since my self image is so damaged I don’t see or refuse to see that he cares because he’s not 50 people admiring me, he’s just one person and one person is not enough for me. It’s a sad sad life. My mother and father were really fucked up and my father is also in and out of jail to this day. It's sort of the "chicken or the egg" argument to many people, but to me, it's pretty obvious that being on Onlyfans doesn't cause mental health issues in its self, but many of the people on Onlyfans have BPD and other issues, and have had it for years.

I'm not putting anyone down but, stuff like this is not healthy to live in a alternate reality with people judging other people's members. I mean, why? It can't be good.

    From my time on CZcams and the people I’ve spoken to in the world. I see tons of people lack reasoning skills. They don’t question information given to them or reflect on themselves. But I do appreciate your academic approach to the topic, rather than taking the partisan activist stance I have regretfully seen some highly educated people in the mental health field take. As well at analyzing factors that may affect both the seller & buyer. I didn't expect you to depart from your usual style/presentation this time around necessarily, but this can be such a loaded topic for people especially right now. Another great video.

To me as I girl who struggled with self image issues due to body shaming and hatered I think oversimulation with sex and sexy content somehow makes people dissociate from how most people are. I see it harmful in that perspective- anywhere you go there is a beautiful abled bodied people. I have no issue with people choosing to engage in sex work, but I agree with you here. I have several close friends who were or are strippers. They all have been impacted by this line of work-not trusting men, becoming disgusted by men, negative body image, etc.
    I don’t know anyone personally that is on Only Fans. I do know from some of the creators I watch that within a years time they’ve gotten more extreme and done things they never thought they would ever do, by their own admission.
    It’s a tough subject. It’s been shown time and time again that women in traditional porn are poorly paid and often abused. You say yourself, and I agree, that online sex work is safer than in person sex work. At LEAST with Only Fans these women have control over what they post and get the majority of the money they earn on the site.
