  • So Games Workshop Revealed a New 40k Admech Model...
    During Warhammer Day the other weekend GW revealed the Sydonian Skatros, a new model for the Adeptus Mechanicus that's coming out with their 10th Edition Codex. Is this reinforcement a key addition to the 40k space, or is it a total flop? In this video I react to the new design, rules, and speculate on what might be coming with the codex.

    True Ork levels of stealth here. Be the most obvious thing on the battlefield and nobody will notice. Nice.

      Yea they really made Admech just Imperial Orks now 🙈🙈

    I know this video is several months old now, but my two cents on the design is straight up that we're missing details here. If you were to add a couple of extra lines to the rounded bits just below the knee and at the "calf", you could argue the legs could fold in on themselves. Combine that with adding a couple of line along the main tube on the lower leg, it could telescope further, making them stand only slightly taller than a Ruststalker at full gait. Maybe I'm just trying to rationalize it to myself, but then that would make a lot of this make much more sense. Especially considering their description implies they act more like active surveyors and mobile oversight towers than stealth snipers. I think the weirdest thing about them is their statblock.

      Absolutely agree, and the pose is not helping them at all. I saw a conversion that just changed the pose and it immediately looked like 100% better!

    I've loved seeing peoples mockups with how they're gonna repurpose the stilts for kitbashes

    Honestly I really like it. My first thought was that he wasn't on stilts, but that its legs were telescoping so that it could make itself taller whenever it needs to, rather than it always being like 10 feet tall. I mean I guess they could be permanent stilts but it doesn't look like he has any feet halfway up the stilts which he would if he were standing on top of them rather than them being a part of his legs.

    • @toasthammer
      @toasthammer  Před 9 měsíci +2

      Yea they're definitely built into his legs in normal skitarii fashion but i dont think they telescope 🤔 if they did there would have to be somewhere to store all the excess material, presumably behind him, but it looks like they just attach to the bottom of his thighs

    Hydraulic, telescoping legs for rising up, shooting and then lowering down again is a really weird idea. If it was an actual HG Wells, War of the Worlds-styled robot, it could possibly work aesthetically, however, this guy just doesn't really work for me. I like the 1930's style sci-fi look of the majority of the models with the added Wild West component. They really need to focus on this idea more in their designs. Gunslingers with Lost In Space robots backing them up is pretty cool. They need to come up with weapons that really push the whole radiation on the battlefield causing turn-by-turn decay of enemy troops, perhaps a fortification, or a mech that plants on an objective and then starts to irradiate everything within a certain radius that makes the Skitarii stronger while fighting within--feel no pain, higher leadership.

    • @toasthammer
      @toasthammer  Před 9 měsíci +1

      I don't even think they telescope! At least that's not what the article seemed to suggest. But yea I totally agree there's so much really cool unexplored design space for this model range and this is what they came up with 😑

    The guy from the Astartes video designed such a cool Ad Mech/ New Mech looking sniper. The little hoodied guy, hiding in the maintenance behind the bulwark, with the gigantic sniper canon with the round drum.
    Nice and simple unit they should let you field with a scout or servo skull.
    Btw not all the lenses do the same thing. The ones on the Skitarii upgrade to see more IR and UV so they have heat and decent night vision, the telescope on the rifle zooms in and ligns up the shot, the other two I think are advanced low visibility detectors that see way better at night because they emit concentrated particles from one lense and filter the reflected particles through the other.

      @toasthammer  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Oooh i dont think i saw that guy! Was he in the orig astartes animation? And yea i get that the different lenses do different things but he has robot eyes!! Just integrate them all into those 😂

  • @grumpycup4762
    @grumpycup4762 Před 9 měsíci +1

    Even if this unit was good, meaning you got a cheap sniper that could reliably precision fire away some enemy characters (which it currently can't lmao)
    It's still not...what admech needed.
    They took what should have just been a weapon option on the Skitarii rangers and made an entire unit from it lol.
    Things that would have been more fun and interesting than a cheap sniper on stilts:
    1: New HQ with melee focus.
    2: New melee unit in general. Something beefy and tough.
    3: Maybe a new heavy support vehicle!
    4: A proper centerpiece model that isn't fkn Cawl? I mean something akin to slamming down a baneblade or something IDK.
    Either of these would have gotten me giddy and excited.
    This just gets me... tired.

    The primary reason I'd never pick up admech, they all look goofy af. The crab tanks were cool but then, deVinci flying machines? Bipedal cav? Now a clown on pogo legs.
    The majority of 40k units make some sort of sense, admech look straight up from a different setting, and that setting looks *bad.* Hell, the units from the Vinci in rise of legends looked better, cool even. The units from admech should be the closest to what 'advanced' looked like, not regressive. Legit fire whoever the modeler is, they don't know what they're doing.

    The rules are the only problematic thing for me at a glance. Terrible statline on the guns- so terrible in fact, thats it must be spitefully designed. Eliminators cost 90 points, and 1 unit has 3 guns, and all of them are better than this.
