Lovely tutorial! I am making a quilt to look like a landscape of hills and valleys with a sunset in the background. This is very helpful for such a quilt! Only my second ever, so I am very excited. Blessings!
The internet is amazing. I have dreams in my head of curves on the bag i'm currently creating and if i had to figure curves out in my head and in practice, i'd probably have wasted so much time and fabric experimenting. It's so nice to be able to learn from someone with experience and see the full process. And surprisingly you've made it look so incredibly possible and easy. Thank you!!! :D

A reminder as to why gray is my fav non color.. Also glue basting is a great way to be pin free. I used the weekend to do some skill building. I found that glue basting was a pain. Rather I adopted a free form method demonstrated both others and treated the top and bottom as dynamic sustrates and moved them where the needed to be to land under the foot. My Appliquikc tool (with forked in) worked great for getting close to needle and saving my index finger. Thank you for inspiring me to work with this method.

Since the quilt is a picture an is my first picture I really want it to work and this really will make it work. I know exactly how I can use it with the extra large pattern I have made. TL;DR mystery unlocked in full by 9:30 ;) Seeing the technique only in its finished form, I was a bit mystified. I had envisioned that maybe it could be done this way, but it felt like it couldn't possibly work. Apparently it is only a magic trick, if your quilting, like mine, is rather carefree, rushed, and eschews pinning anything, ever. :p
