    Me & my husband both reversed our Prediabetes by eliminating ALL sugar, carbs, and ultra processed foods. Dropped almost 200lbs between us too as well as no more high bp, sleep apnea, or aches & pains we thought were due to our 50something age.

      Excellent! Congratulations and please keep up the good work. It's a beautiful thing when a couple or people in a family, or a household, work together on their health and collaborate for living well and living long. Being in your 50's does not mean you have to have aches and pains, high bp, sleep apnea, etc. Yay for both of you!

      I'm on SNAP and can afford to eat very nutritious food. I've seen affordability used as an excuse many times. Salmon, cod, tuna, chicken, etc. and fresh veggies and fruit are not expensive compared to say lobster and steak. Tip: I would never go to Family Dollar to buy food. It's all processed food. All of it. I am a single female, 55, with type 2 diabetes. I shop at Whole Foods and I receive $281.00 a month for myself from the government through SNAP. I eat well with no complaints. I have lost 33 pounds since March when I was first diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mostly through better food choices, intermittent fasting and eating one meal a day. It's choice and mindset in eating.

    Can you eat fresh if broccoli if you have no thyriod? I had mine removed in 2019. It was super large and grew inside my chest area. I take synthroid daily, but will eating fresh broccoli daily will interfere with synthroid?

    • @DrBeverlyYates
      @DrBeverlyYates  Před 8 dny

      I can't give medical advice here. It's always best to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
      Generally speaking, for someone without a thyroid, eating broccoli is generally considered safe, but there are some considerations. Broccoli contains goitrogens, which can interfere with iodine use in thyroid hormone production. However, this effect is significant only if consumed in extremely large quantities, such as 2 kilograms per day. Cooking broccoli reduces its goitrogenic activity, making it even safer. Therefore, moderate consumption of broccoli should not pose a risk, but it's safest to consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice.

      Hmm. I have not seen genuine fish oil, directly from an oily fish like salmon, for example, cause a flair of inflammation, including for rheumatoid arthritis. However, people do have bio-individual responses to foods. It's best to take note of how you feel in response to eating a specific food and see if it is a healthy choice for your needs.

    • @DrBeverlyYates
      @DrBeverlyYates  Před měsícem +1

      Hi. Yes, pumpkin can be eaten. Test, don't guess. It's best to test what your specific response is to eating pumpkin by either using a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) or using a lancet to get a drop of blood, putting it on a test strip and inserting the test strip into a glucometer, and checking for your blood sugar response to eating pumpkin. If the blood sugar level stays in the healthy range, that is good. If not, consider eating a smaller portion and see if the blood sugar response is better.

    How to avoid the coloring thats added in grocery stores? Is wild caught also done with coloring?

    • @DrBeverlyYates
      @DrBeverlyYates  Před měsícem

      This is a great question. To be sure, you should ask the people who sell the salmon in the grocery stores if they know if any coloring is added to the wild salmon for sale. And check this out -
      For most if not all farmed salmon, coloring is added to give the farmed salmon the appearance of its pink color. Wild salmon naturally produces its classic pink color for its flesh.
      As far as I know, wild salmon gets its color from the carotenoid pigments astaxanthin and other compounds found in the food it naturally eats, such as shrimp, krill, and algae. These pigments give wild salmon its characteristic red or pink hue, and without them, salmon would be white or gray. The amount of carotenoids a wild salmon eats depends on the species, which can affect how red or pink it is.
      For example, wild sockeye salmon has the most vibrant red color because it eats a lot of zooplankton, while coho salmon eats more small fish as it matures.

      I hear you about eating healthy foods; it can be more expensive. Be sure to consider how and when you shop; look for frozen foods on sale where possible, canned items on sale, or cooking foods from scratch, like beans and other legumes. Another option is to participate in a community garden, or grow food yourself, including in your kitchen window or on a patio, or whatever space you have access to.
      Collaborate with a friend and buy in bulk. There are a lot of ways to reduce your grocery bill and eat healthy foods.
      When I was a student in college on a tight budget, these are some of things I did and it worked out.
      I wish you success in this quest.

    What's the best food for breakfast, lunch for prediabetic

    • @DrBeverlyYates
      @DrBeverlyYates  Před měsícem +3

      The best foods are the ones that keep your blood sugar levels in a healthy range after eating them. Test, don't guess, so you find which foods work best for your needs. There is bio-individual variation in blood sugar responses to foods eaten. Keep checking back for future videos that cover best foods for blood sugar control, prediabetes, diabetes and promoting insulin sensitivity.

    Is fasting recommended or safe for someone who is diabetic.

    • @DrBeverlyYates
      @DrBeverlyYates  Před 8 dny

      I can't give medical advice here. In general, fasting is a great idea for people who have type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. Fasting has been used for centuries for healing purposes, including blood sugar issues like type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.

    The lentils have 39.9 carbs ? That’s too high in carbs isn’t it ? I think my blood sugar would spike !

    • @DrBeverlyYates
      @DrBeverlyYates  Před měsícem

      Great question, Darlene. Please keep in mind that lentils also offer fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are essential for health, in addition to slow-burning, complex carbohydrates. All carbs are not the same in their impact on blood sugar levels.
      If you are worried that your blood sugar might spike, you can try a small portion, like 1/2 a cup, and test to see what happens in response.

      They would. Early on after diagnosis when I was learning what not to eat I tried. Lentils are terrible for diabetics. As are most beans........I suggest you check out Dr Ken Berry and Jason Fung for better information on controlling diabetes through diet.
