The "Shin-Yamanashi Loop Road" is a ring road with a total length of approximately 43 km that aims to facilitate transportation in the Kofu metropolitan area and strengthen cooperation between surrounding areas.
This road consists of four sections: northern, eastern, southern, and western. The western section uses the Chubu-Odan Expressway, while the northern, eastern, and southern sections are maintained as free regional highways. The entire southern section was put into service in March 2009. The eastern section between Nishishimojo and Ochiai Nishi IC began operation in November 2020.
The southern section is a bypass of Prefectural Road No. 12, and the prefectural route connects to Kamitsuburai in Nirasaki City.

新山梨環状道路の全線開通(特に北部区間)はまだまだかかりそうですが、東部区間は既に国道140号指定になっているのには気が付きませんでした。南部区間の自動車専用道路部分は高速道路並の快走区間で、これで無料なのが驚きですよね。
県道12号の西側の方は行ったことが無いのですが、結構走りにくい区間もあるのですね。南アルプス市内は、バイパス区間を抜けて交差点を曲がり、旧国道52号のボトルネックだった小笠原橋の所を通過した直後の左分岐に入ったら程なくして暫く住宅密集地の中を抜ける狭隘区間が結構続いていますね。
韮崎市に入ってからは暫くは快走路になっていますが、北側の方から再び住宅密集地に入り、部分的に狭隘区間が残っていますね。特に古い橋梁の架け替え工事が行われずに狭隘のまま取り残されてボトルネックになっているパターンで、全国でもこういう状態になっている橋梁をたまに見かけますが、ここではちょうど路線バスが対向車のすれ違い待ちで詰まっているシーンに遭遇していますね…。
