Hey Ralph, thanks so much! I watched this before but got into the studio and had to come back. I feel like I've graduated from riding the kiddie horse straight to mounting the old Widowmaker. This synth is fantastic not only for its sound but for inspiring humility.
I definitely found my B2600 rather confusing at first, and these videos have really been a great help in understanding it. I'm having a great time with it, thank you.
This is definitely an issue that I’ve experienced when using my (Korg) Odyssey clone. The major difference being, the Odyssey is a fully normalized performance synthesizer; you cannot override any of the hardware patch settings using cables. It was worth taking a look at, anyway.

Behringer cloned the ARP's quirks as well as their gifts. I have a friend that says there are mods that you can apply to the 2600 to change this behavior, but its unknown if the Behringer will be capable of being similarly modified.

Greetings, Ralph! First off let me thank you for your videos, they have been invaluable to me in leaning the 2600 and how it functions. I have a question if you don't mind? Could you explain what uses there are leaving the pre-wired connections and using the ADSR only (where the faders are in 2:46 of your video). It seems odd to me that they would pre-wire it this way when it sounds better overriding it and running the ADSR into the linear input instead of the exponential. I'm sure there is a reason they wired it this way, but I can't think of why! Thank you again, looking forward to your next video!
It all depends what sound you are looking for. You can swap the linear and exponential slot as you wish according to the sound you are going to design. What sounds better or not is very subjective. Greetings and thanks for watching my content, Ralph

Hello Peter, the AR is actually an AS(Sustain as long as the key is pressed)R envelope. For certain patches this might be enough of an envelope that you need. Please note that on the 2600 Synth the prewired setting for the VCA envelopes is AR in linear mode and ADSR in exponential mode. You can combine them according to your sound design intentions. The Gate Out of the Pro1 triggers the AR and ADSR provided that you make the connection via the S&H Gate of the B2600. I am not familiar with the Pro1. You need a +10V Gate Out. Sometimes a lesser Gate Voltage may also work but only if the spike at the beginning of the Gate is high enough. Greetings, Ralph
Same here. Having trouble triggering the ADSR from anything I've tried in my Eurorack rig. Like Ralph says, I think because it's less than 10 V (5V gates are common).

Ralph, I got my 2600 a couple of weeks ago - got my Arturia Keystep today. I can trigger sounds when the oscillators are in the steady drone state, but when that's off I'm getting nothing. I think what you just showed here will fix it - if not, can you make a step by step video showing how to connect the Arturia via MIDI cable and set the 2600 to produce sounds?
Hi there, do you have any issues connecting the Keystep to the B2600 via Midi? The process is actually quite essy: Keystep Midi Out to B2600 Midi In and make sure you set the Midi Channels correctly.
That's totally up to you and depends on the sounds you want to create. I personally like to combine the two envelopes. It gives certain sounds more punch. Try dabbling with different Time Factor settings of the AR/ADSR (Behringer) in combination with the linear and exponential curve....
Ralph: Can one use a ribbon controller with the Barp? I just got a Gray Meanie Barp, been using my Arturia KeyStep, but wonder about a ribbon controller as an alternative using the portamento feature.
Hello Sean, the volume behavior of the exponential curve (ADSR) is very different to the linear curve. If this feature is useful to you depends very much on the kind of sounds you want to create.

Also: normally ADSRs are exponential in *rate* by nature; what is the ADSR function actually outputting if it can be mapped to either an exponential or linear curve after the fact through the VCA slider? @@seanluke3052 I personally like to mix the AR (linear) and ADSR (exponential) on VCA. On some of my patches this combination gives me more punch. But this is my personal feeling and what seems to work for me. That's the beautiful thing about modular Synths. You just patch what works for you....

I've had this synth for under a year, bought second hand working perfectly. I have noticed a new issue in where it sounds like the sustain/release sliders are not doing their job in the ADSR section. the AR section seems to work as normal but when I raise the release slider, a note continuously sounds. Wherever the decay slider is positioned, it seems to produce a continuous note if a key is held down. Even if I am using the prewired ADSR connection, still the Decay acts like Sustain and Release initiates a drone note. All these problems persist regardless of the initial gain or VCF control. Any help or insight greatly appreciated.
@@RalphBaumgartl It does indeed persist on all Time Factor settings. Weirdly, If I raise the release straight to the top, the sound swells in relative to the time factor and then sustains. I've also updated the firmware but it made no difference. I had a look on the inside and nothing looks unusual. Thank you for your insight 👍
@@coolguy-sixtynine6863 as I mentioned earlier, I have never experienced this kind of behavior on any of my B2600's nor on my original ARP 2600. At this point I would ask a technician to have a look.

That's the beauty of the 2600 Synth! You can just go for the prewired setup and if you wish you can override it.

Hi there, I personally have never experienced this "issue". The only thing I can think of is to upgrade the Firmware if you haven't done so yet.
One more thing: also check if the problem persists on all three "Time Factor" settings.

Kindly check Initial Gain and the VCF going directly into the Mixer. Both should be turned down.
