Clueless American Gets Acupuncture, Shocks Doctor With Perfect Chinese！

- So I went to get acupuncture for the first time and I gotta say... it's pretty relaxing. But I really don't recommend scaring the doctor while she's putting needles in your face!
I’m in Rockville, Maryland again with another little social experiment! Last time you guys voted, so today I’m trying out acupuncture for the first time! My neck’s been killing me, so I went to see Dr. Meng to see if she could fix me, and to see how she’d react when I switched into Mandarin Chinese.
I also went to a restaurant where I had one of the most fun interactions I’ve gotten on camera! The audio is a bit messed up on the second half, but I hope you’ll enjoy, and definitely stick around because the two people I talked to where just awesome!

Te escuché varias veces decir que el hablar en el propio idioma de alguien es como que te da mas cercanía y lo comparto 100%. Si bien no se tantos idiomas he aprendido Lenguas de Señas de mi país y es increible como puede cambiar la comunicación con las personas, y como esas personas se sienten mas cómodas y sueltas si tienen un idioma en común.

nah a lot of people are like this. namely business owners, they know how shitty it feels being pressured into giving up profits, and sometimes eating a loss, especially for an exchange that isnt guaranteed, such as "exposure". since he cant guarantee any viewers will show up to her business, its not guaranteed to be a fair tradeoff. does that make sense? value for value.

It's funny how thee/thy/thou are used to make something sound super old-fashioned and formal, when in fact that used to be the informal alternative to the formal "you/your" that we still use.
I tell people that bit of trivia all the time, and no one seems to know this. Bravo!
You = 2nd person plural, too; not merely formal. From the dative of "ġē", "ēow" / you. The genitive "your" comes from "ēower".

Más allá de que el inglés es un gran idioma, se aprende más por obligación. Cuando la otra persona aprende tu idioma, es porque realmente le interesa. Y eso se aprecia mucho.

The restaurant guy's initial disinterest in even trying to help you is something I absolutely can't stand. I'll walk out of a place when I encounter people like that. I'm glad you were able to get him to open up, with the help of Big Sis Marilu.
Try working in a restaurant and dealing with shitty people all day and you'll understand the attitude.

I love how ppls voice change its tone when switching languages. I speak Spanish ( natively) and Speak English (FL) and Im learning Mandarin and my voices and ppl's voice ive heard change when they speak it fluently.
its funny how some ppl treat foreigners very unkindly sometimes until you start speaking to them in their language and then they feel like shit for disrespecting you in the 1st place just for asking or saying something inoffensively simple.... Language barrier is quite unfortunate sometimes
