    Great video, answered my question right away about the cause being the tensioner. I just replaced my belt because it had a couple of missing grooves and I was wondering how that happened. I put on a new belt and everything was working fine but upon merging unto the interstate I was behind a semi that was taking the mouse tail ramp really slow so I was coasting behind him and when I went to merge I shifted into 3rd instead of 4th gear and the truck lunged. I shifted into the right gear then git up to speed but was hearing slapping sounds coming from the engine compartment. I got off at the next exit , my power steering was gone and the temp was climbing. It was a new belt and had been working fine but I think the tensioner pulley must have given up. Very informative video, thank you for taking the time to post it and help us out. God richly blessed you!

    I'm currently working on a Cummins engine that spins a fire pump. This video helped me get off on time on a Friday. Thank you 🙏

    Great video and was very helpful in what to look for at each step of the process. THe only thing I would change is use an arrow with a white border so it is easily seen against a dark background. Thanks for sharing this info, it made my repair a lot easier.

    I just replaced the ac compressor on a 6.7 Cummins. Looks exactly like this. The belt keeps jumping over the ac pulley an 1/8". I kept trying to realign the pulleys but I think it's the tensioner.

    I glad you brought this up . I far from a expert . My old second gen had a squeak or a noise that sounded like a bearing . I checked many things including the ac bearing . Turned out to be the pivot on the tensioner. . I lubricated it and that stopped the noise Damn what a deal . My friend 24 valve for what ever reason started having problems with his belt trying to crawl up on the ac compressor. I asked him what have you done he said I put on a new tensioner and it still does this . OK well I not much on parts changing to see what happens. So I know most want agree but I said OK I use to train convertor systems so I know how to make your belt track but I would not recommend it . He said I don't care as long as the belt tracks . OK I placed a .010 shim behind one side of the tensioner mounting bolt . The caused the tensioner to train rhe belt proper . That was a couple of years ago so OK I guess it worked . He is retired living on a fixed income so it was good for him

      Personal I would use the best tensioner I can get for the money spent . A while back I was in a bind as my wheel bearing, unit bearing on a front wheel drive was failing. So I bought some cheap bearing because that's what they had . Those pieces of crap failed on my TDI Jetta my work car . So in short order I had to change them again . So my time is worth something to me lol . I guess I should have orderd the better bearings and drove my truck a couple days damn lol

      I forget to mention about the belt . I bought a cheaper serpentine belt and that piece of crap squeaked a lot . So I got tired of that and bought a better belt Gates I think . I read that the cheaper belt uses filler in the construction. So that was my experience with cheaper belts not good lol

    Nice video to help eliminate the shop cost and labor cost, Also before changing the tensioner, view the tensioner when running if it is jumping or vibrating the change it and also if there is a sqeaking or chirping sound then replace it also.

      Yes it can. Or it can be your belt. While your Truck is running. Spray alitte Belt Dressing or WD-40 on the Belt. Just to see if the noise will go away.

    Over 500 bucks for a tensioner at the dealer. I will take my chances with a gates.

      Gates makes the tensioners for cummins. That contitech tensioner the dealer sold him was aftermarket

      Bus yard, high dust conditions. we go thru these things like candy. Tensioner pulleys should be 1/8 to a 1/4" wider to the engine side. Don't catch it in time belt shreds, rips the wires off the fan clutch, then it starts getting expensive...

    Can a bad tensioner make noices when diving and accelerating my truck belt will sound but only while driving and accelerating if im parkd or if i throw it in neutral and i accelerate it wont make any noise

    • @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892
      @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892  Před rokem +1

      It can be three things.
      1. Tensioner
      2. Belt
      3. Air leak sound from a Turbo Hose or Exhaust sound coming from the EGR Cooler pipe. I would put my guess on Tensioner and Belt. I have seen some of these Tensioners only lasting 105,000 miles.

      @@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892I’ve got the opposite. Cyclic squeak while idle or off throttle. Also only once truck is warmed up. I changed tensioner with a Cummins OEM and no change. Any suggestions?

    • @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892
      @dairleautoclassicrestorati6892  Před 4 měsíci

      @bpdp379 you may have already changed the Drive Belt with it. If not, take time to replace it. It can make a noise also. If you still hear a noise. Inspect your Idler Pulley and Alternator.
