I haven't finished your video yet but I really wanted to say thank you for an honest review! Things you love, things you hate! Every detail you can hit after driving it X amount of time.
Seats going up button shouldn’t matter as much because if the seats were down, you would only need them up again if someone was going to sit in the back row. They would be there already to lift the seats.
I just got an RS1, and it's by far the best car I've had, owned and driven. My previous cars are BMW X5 and Jeep Grand Cherokee. There was a lot of nitpicking here; sounded very forced to complain. If you are interested on Rivian i suggest to book a test drive and judge yourself.
absolutely it is something that should be seen and tested before purchasing, like any car. but yes, I did have more complaints over creature comforts because this is a higher end car that is designed around creature comforts. and when it costs $98,000 for this car, there is a lot of wasted space, poor design for the cost. but, theres also plenty of pros to the car. I drive mainly trucks and often there is a bad on the center console where my elbow hits and is rather painful, thats a complaint for me, but that doesnt mean the entire truck is bad.
This is the headline. Rivian is everything everyone says it is and more. That doesn't mean it's not still a new product. Were the first few generations of iPhones perfect? Were they still massive upgrades? If you "have owned a lot of high end cars" and are expecting Mercedes-level refinement because, "I should have paid $100k" then this is not your car. The inconveniences are minor, the quirks, livable. What you're getting over say an equivalent Suburban is off the charts. Incalculable. As much of an upgrade as a Model 3 is to a Honda Accord. It's Tesla, but with an interior you want to be in and in a form factor Americans actually want.
I went and test drove the RS1 and R1T this past weekend. Yeah, it’s not an ultra luxury vehicle. My wife’s QX60 is nicer. That said, the Rivian is a far better vehicle than the Tesla in regards to quality (caveat, Tesla FSD is better). I hope Rivian find profitability as they will improve over time and we really need a luxury, not “squashed” SUV in the market.
I am torn between an X5 and Rivian. I ordered a plug in X5 and I am interested in most comfortable ride especially for second row (my family). How do you rate Rivian’s ride quality compared to X5? X5 in recent years have become a very comfortable, silent luxury vehicle with air suspension as standard.
great review, thanks for pointing out both the good and bad.....but did you also notice/take issue with the suspension being super loud when it's adjusting. or did Rivian address it in their latest builds? we're eyeing the R1S dual motor max pack as a daily so no need for the all terrain upgrade.
No issues with suspension noises for me. Aside from a minor "ticking" sound for a few moments when valves are opening and closing - which is to be expected. But nothing from the compressor or the suspension components themselves
when I've been in R1S' either demoing or in other owners' vehicles, I'm always aware of that suspension noise. Maybe one would get used to it? It's one of the reasons I've paused on my reservation. :/
Does it have a security camera system similar to Tesla's? Does the heated steering wheel warm the entire wheel or just areas, like the 3 and 9 o'clock positions?
Picking up mine in a few days, we loved the whole adventure do it all EV SUV idea and ordered a few years back, so for that price, it’s a relatively good deal in today’s money. I’m excited and at the same time, I’m still trying to figure out if this is a wise move coming from a Model Y. Thanks for Great insight on some of the downsides of the vehicle. Some points I can care less (like the manual recline seat and some say the split manual tailgate, I actually prefer manual over power) and insurance is definitely EXPENSIVE but it is not too much more than my Tesla, agreed that anyone thinking about Rivian or Tesla should definitely know that the money they save on gas all goes to insurance. Many downsides you mentioned are definitely something I was and still am worried about, like the worse-than-Tesla autopilot, the infotainment arrangement and lock/unlock situation (guess I’m spoiled with Tesla being too good at all these) so, I guess I really have to live with it long enough to decide if it’s really for me.
Definitely haven't had any of the proximity locking issues you've had - locking or unlocking. It locks after I'm about 10-15ft away and unlocks at 10-5ft away. Turn off lane detection. It won't affect Driver+, it just won't do the all the time lane detection. I don't know what to make of this review... It's a lot of nitpicks, but it really sounds like you don't like it. Then you say to get one... I dunno

I drive mainly trucks and often there is a bad on the center console where my elbow hits and is rather painful, thats a complaint for me, but that doesnt mean the entire truck is bad. I say for 75k that it cost me, it's worth overseeing small issues to own, but at 98k that it costs now I would prefer to have better comforts. and im not sure if its my phone or the key card, but it absolutely rarely locked or unlocked within 10 feet. I did many tests at home and public areas with the same result.
I actually loved the nitpicking! Made the video more interesting and giggled the whole time. Guess what? Every complaint you made was valid. You only get 45 minutes to demo. No ApplePlay… what were they thinking. Goodness!!
I pre-ordered and I got what I pre-ordered, because I choose to not wait and test drive it and make sure it's a livable decision... Don't forget about the third brake light quality... 🙄 Thanks for sharing your experience. 🙂
@@BJLudski Go into Settings>Vehicle>Driver + Scroll down to Lane Keeping assist and turn off this will eliminate the wheel “nudging” You can also change lane departure warning from Early to Normal to make it more forgiving. Can also adjust wheel vibration and sound or just turn it all off
how old are you? I'm 27 and obsessed with this thing but i feel like im too early in life to justify a R1S even though i make good money. I dont have any kids.
You paid $80k and every complaint you made was something you could identify after spending 10 mins in the car. But anyways nice vid. I certainly couldnt afford one
when I purchased it, yes. but rivian has you sign up for financing and purchase the vehicle prior to test driving the vehicle. I didnt get into the car until we were about to leave the dealership.
@@BJLudski you never drove it before buying? I was contacted directly by Rivian and had two opportunities to drive and examine the vehicle, ask questions, etc. months and then weeks ahead of my actual "purchase" and delivery date. Did you not get to do a first mile drive? You make it sound like Rivian railroads you into buying sight unseen and that's not really how the 8-step process goes. You should have had at least one to see and drive an R1S prior to taking delivery. Since you have the "grandfathered" pricing (as I did too from being a long time pre-order holder) I assume you didn't just randomly buy from the shop?
I was thinking about an R1S to replace my Grand Cherokee, but honestly the Jeep is far more luxurious, has many more features, and is 2/3 the cost. I think I'll stick with gas for now and reconsider electric next time.
This video is more of a complaint than a review. Coming from of BMW 750, Teslas owner's. You have a lot of cars for $100.000, trade the car and buy what you are used to or like. It sounds like you need to build your own car.
I rarely ever comment on CZcams videos. But just had to now. Dude, why did you by a Rivian R1S? You are so unhappy with it. I don't get why you spend so much money on something you find so many faults with.
1:53 Forty seconds is not a being deal. Throughout the video when you mention a grievance, your voice inflection goes up into this emotional, irritated, and sometimes angry mode.
These things are easy too expensive. Not happening. $40,000 to $50,000 is still a lot of money for a vehicle to be. And if the range is as bad as many of these larger EVs, then it's way overpriced imo For now, I'm sticking to my Niro and my gas powered F-150
thats the single biggest problem with the car market in general. a basic truck is 70k with cloth seats. and are now going over 100k. I become more picky when it comes to cars in the 70k+ range because you should be getting everything you want and it should be perfect, instead of flawed or cheap when its a 100k.
The fact that you haven't taken off the screen protectors after a month is just......incredible. That's god tier restraint.
I haven't finished your video yet but I really wanted to say thank you for an honest review! Things you love, things you hate! Every detail you can hit after driving it X amount of time.
You should tag rivian, such that they can address these issues

ive never noticed the sound aside from the compressor running for the adjustment.

Mine has the squeaky / chirpy noises at slow speeds as you hear in this video czcams.com/video/SJ-hON_zOxM/video.html .. Build date Oct 2023.
I didn’t catch much good. Haha.

It has gear guard which is similar to sentry mode. And yes the wheel heats up not just zones
For a $98,000 car, I'd like to know from Rivian, why would they not have program a button to unfold the back seats???
I have a Lexus Lx 570 and pay 1200 every six months for insurance with Geico.
Please, what is your insurance payment like?
How is the lane centering option where car steers itself completely?

I totally agree with the lane assist.
its aggressive, but Ive seen people say it can be turned off, but I was never able to find it in the settings.

How many miles does it go on full charge?
Finally a fanboy off-mode review….thanks

Are you keeping or selling ? It seems you weren't satisfied.
Seems like he complained about everything
hear ride quality to firm?

If you can buy who cares how old you are get it
Get a matte screen protector to get rid of that sun glare!
Price is too high for what it is. Needs to be around 80-85k imho. Great suv overall though
Can pick up a demo with low miles and full warranty for low 70's. There are great lease deals now as well.
"Blatantly warm air" he says. As if the car was completely unashamed of it's warm air production.
Most Americans don’t read anymore so I’m not surprised.
You paid $80k and every complaint you made was something you could identify after spending 10 mins in the car. But anyways nice vid. I certainly couldnt afford one
I’ve never heard someone whine so much, even to the point of being dissatisfied that the center armrest might break one day in the future. Holy cow.
Mentions glare on screen yet still has the very glossy screen protectors on it
Digital screen is way better plus it can get software updates
If it had Tesla software and support - I’d buy it
Why do you still have the film on the screen?? Peel that off. There’s your glare.
Yeah what!? Lol
Lol that's hilarious!

let’s see some more interesting like off roading, driving camping do some man stuff besides crying
I dont get why backup/360 cameras are always garbo. There are $100 smartphones from a decade ago that look better than most of these.
